IWU gets a nice win over John Carroll to make the Sweet Sixteen and will host Endicott at Shirk on Friday -- 6:30 p.m.  Sure is nice to have Noah Cleveland back -- he almost single-handedly pull the Titans ahead in the beginning of the second half, as the Titans pulled away and never looked back.  The game was very competitive in the first half, and quite chippy in the second with some some hard flagrant fouls, taunting and several Ts on offer.

The Titans move on 73-60.

Nice to have a home game for the Sweet Sixteen level.

Insane.  Noah definitely found his comfort level with that cast.  It makes me cringe because I think he's going to emake it worse.  I've never seen him more demonstrably happy.  I've never seen a Titan game so emotionally charged. Shutting down Chicone in the 2nd half seems to have been pivotal.

iwu70

Green, agree.  Noah was clearly into it . . .what a great game he had.  I totally agree with you about clamping down on the JCU point guard.   In the first half, I thought he was going to go off for 40+ the way he was playing.  They made him work for it the second half and he started to miss, even FTs.  When Noah and Mason Funk are on, the Titans are hard to beat.

Elite 8?? Why not?  ms

Not only did IWU get Cleveland back, but it appears they got another bonus.
As far as I can tell, they're the only lower seeded team that will be hosting a third round game. It would be interesting to learn what was behind the inconsistent reasoning that resulted in that decision.

Gus, maybe good facilities, and also a big turnout for tournament revenue.  I'm glad we get Endicott at home.  Should be another great game.

I saw an explanation elsewhere that it is because Endicott is hosting Ice Hockey that day.

Thanks man. As we have no hockey in the CCIW, I never would have thought of that one. 🤗

Unfortunately,  Illinois Wesleyan has spring break  starting that weekend.

I put in that explanation that Endicott could potentially have been hosting an NCAA DIII First Round women's ice hockey tournament game on Saturday, March 14.   However, the selection shows for both D3 Ice hockey tournaments were last night on NCAA.com, and the Endicott women's ice hockey team, who won the CNE AQ to the hockey tournament, will be going to Hamline for their first round game in the field of 13.  Endicott women were ranked #12 in the final NPI selections report for that tournament.  (UW-River Falls, the defending D3 women's ice hockey champion, got an at-large bid as the WIAC does not have a women's AQ for that tourney, and is the overall #1 seed this year on the women's ice hockey side.)   On the men's ice hockey side, Endicott also won the CNE AQ to get into the field of 14 for that tournament.   As Endicott was ranked #2 in the NPI, the Gulls got a first round bye and will host a national quarterfinal game at Ray Bourque Arena on the Endicott campus on Saturday, March 21.  Hobart, the SUNYAC AQ for the men's ice hockey tournament, is the defending D3 men's ice hockey champion, and got the other first round bye.)

That tournament announcement came after I made that potential explanation, and I am not sure with the Endicott campus on spring break, that the college would have the game staff available to host both an NCAA D3 men's basketball tournament game and an NCAA first round D3 Ice hockey tournament game on the same weekend.

Therefore, I would not have been surprised if Endicott just chose to put in paperwork in advance to host NCAA ice hockey tournament action for the weekend of Saturday, March 14, and not men's basketball.  It was just my two cents.

Anyway, the Shirk Center in Bloomington, IL is a perfect site for that third round game between Endicott and Illinois Wesleyan, and I am not complaining.

Long time lurker, like from the beginning, but never posted before.

So watching the post game press conference on Hudl after the IWU John Carroll game, the JC coach criticized and bad mouthed the officiating for the game.  Isn't there some sort of penalty or fine for doing that publicly?  I've never heard that blatant criticism before.

As far as I know, the men's basketball committee is in charge of policing that kind of thing.  There have been censures in the past for comments or blowing off pressers altogether, which happens on occasion.  I think, again, from what I've heard from reliable folks, but not something I'm 100% confident in, they can withhold per diem payments and some of the reimbursement stuff that the NCAA provides, but I'm not sure they can give fines or anything like that.

More often, I suspect, a school will impose some penalty for a coach who behaves in a way they don't like - although those things are rarely public.

Ok. Tinfoil hat on. I'm not a fan of punishing people for what they say. A bit to un-American for me. Yes, I know it's an organization they've agreed to join and follow the rules. But at some point, the NCAA turned into a government, not an organization. Like this round of games at IWU. Now, they dictate where the seating sections are. Hell, the frickin' bank has to move to a different location. The concession prices change I assume because they have their greasy fingers in the pie. I know these are old complains about the NCAA, but I'm an old man who yells at kids to stay off the lawn.

There's a public Host Operation Manual - https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/basketball/d3/men/2025-26D3MBB_HostOpsManual.pdf

They try to make it as neutral an event as possible - especially in this case, with the lower seeded team hosting.

EDITED TO ADD:  The only mention of concessions I can find says prices should not be different than any other event at the facility.

Yep. This is not new. It was the case the last time I was at IWU for the sectionals a few years ago. It's normal.

Not sure what this is, but OK.

The NCAA does not set concession prices.
