The Titan roster is up. Owan Nelson and Alex Maas dropping off. Seven new-comers. If I could wave my magic wand and ask for the ideal recruiting class, this would be it. At the end of last season, I would've said we have four lock-in starters for this season. Now I'm down to one (Colak). Funk and Fridman are truly going to have to come into practice and bring their A game. Yeah, Fridman.

Carthage roster and schedule is up.  Doesn't include freshmen or potential transfers, but the roster up this early is not par for the course.  Whole starting five is back which includes the Johnson brothers who were first team all conference and Ryan was MOP.  Also, second team, Riley Brooks is back. Additionally, Antuan Nesbitt is listed as a graduate senior.  He was out all last year and was a first team all conference the year before.  If he can come back, that leaves them with likely one of the most talented and experienced teams in the nation.

The North Central roster is also up. However, you really can't accept it as gospel yet as all returning players were automatically given numbers with all the freshman just being listed as being team members. After a few weeks of official practice the varsity team will be determined and there's a good chance 1 or 2 of the freshman will make the varsity, and assume one of the jersey numbers currently listed as belonging to an upperclassman.

I don't see a number by his name, so I'm not quite sure what to make of his addition. I missed watching him play last season so I hope he's able to come back and get his last year of eligibility in. His addition to the lineup would create some tough matchups.  I do think that Carthage lacks a big body to play behind Ryan Johnson.

Does anyone know what the injury was to Nesbitt last season? I don't know that I've seen anything on the board on that situation.

GusD

I don't think the exact nature of Nesbitt's injury was ever revealed. And if I remember correctly, most of the speculation revolved around his ankle being the reason he was sidelined. Whatever the exact nature of the injury was/is, the fact that he hasn't been assigned a number would seem to indicate that he is not yet recovered sufficiently enough to be able to play.

Intrigued by the Meyer kid from Utah.

Is St Norbert College joining the CCIW?  That is what I heard.  Was at the regional USDA office and this guy had some SNC logo on his jacket, we were talking and he thinks they are in the wrong league.

Great piece by d3hoops.com's Gordon Mann on the induction of North Park's legendary head coach Dan McCarrell into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame next week. It'll be one of two Hall of Fame inductions he'll be awarded this season, as his 1978, 1979, and 1980 D3 national championship teams will be inducted into the Viking Hall of Fame on January 31 at North Park (he was inducted as an individual into the Viking Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 1988).

Interesting that it's taken so long for those Naty teams to be inducted.

Carthage expanded basketball roster is now up - https://athletics.carthage.edu/sports/mens-basketball/roster.

Not much info on newcomers, but now Nesbitt is listed with a number.  Will be interesting to see if he is back to his former ability

Thanks, Greg.

I was hoping you'd enjoy it. It was a pleasure to talk to Coach McCarrell and Coach Bosko Djurickovic, who's always a great chat.

I really enjoy writing these pieces since it gives me a chance to connect with D3's past greats.

I prefer being the hunter, not the hunted.  Still think we're too small for this ranking, but I look forward to seeing the athleticism, length (long is different than big), and maturity that this year's team will hopefully bring to the floor.
