Great call of the game tonight, Greg.

Also the video quality was crystal clear (though it's also true the camera fell behind the action late in overtime). But, for the most part, I felt like I was sitting in the stands. Very enjoyable broadcast.

An early entrant for Game of the Year!

Millikin traveled a day later than expected down to the Gateway City, as the CCIW vs. SLIAC portion of non-conference play began with the Big Blue taking on Webster. It turned out to be a relatively no-muss, no-fuss affair for MU, as the Big Blue led the entire way en route to an 85-77 victory over the previously-undefeated Gorloks. Nate Straughter led the way for the Decaturites with 20, with Lane Thomann chipping in his usual strong 15 and 9, Ian Winkler tossing in a dozen, and McGrady Noyes pulling down 11 boards.

Augustana hosted UW-Oshkosh, and the 17th-ranked Titans had Delp's boys on the back foot almost the entire afternoon. The Titans had the lead up to 20 with nine minutes to go, and although the visitors cooled off, Augie just couldn't generate points fast enough to fully climb out of that hole. Augustana did get the lead down to six on a couple of occasions late, but couldn't convert key opportunities (despite wretched endgame FT shooting by UWO) and wound up losing, 84-77. Marieon Anderson and Andre Klaver shared scoring honors for the Rock Islanders with 11 apiece, while Ray Maurchie had 10 and 8 and Dani Romero contributed 10 points as well.

^^^ I was in and out of that Millikin/Webster game. (Several other games of interest going on simultaneously.) At one point in the first half I checked in and MU was up 25-21. The next time I checked it was 40-21. I suspect that's what broke the Gorloks. They seemed to claw back, but couldn't get their deficit into single digits until the final bucket.

New poll is out:

* Illinois Wesleyan went from 499 points to 375, and thus drops from 6th to 10th;
* Carthage went from 45 points to 35, and from the fourth ORV slot to a tie for the fifth;
* Elmhurst went from 20 points to 9, and from the 13th ORV slot to the 15th; and
* North Park gets on at least one ballot and is now tied for the 18th ORV slot with 3 points. It's NPU's first recognition by the voters since the Vikings were slotted #21 in the preseason poll for the ill-fated 2023-24 season.

Congrats to Kolden Vanlandingham, who followed up his CCIW Player of the Week award on Monday morning with being named to the D3hoops Team of the Week later in the day.

Big game for IWU tomorrow up in Kenosha.  The CCIW race begins.

Greg gave a good rundown of the new poll, with IWU dropping to #10 after the loss to Stout.

IWU will be without Fridman on Wednesday, with a significant shoulder injury.  Likely out for some weeks.  Niego will get the start and David Williams will likely find more playing time as the backup PG.

So far, the huge improvement for the Titans is the post/paint play of Noah Cleveland, an almost automatic double-double and then some.  I expect to see more of Ruggles off the bench as well.

Since it worked out so well last season, I will once again predict IWU to go undefeated through the CCIW conference this season.

Elmhurst was only down six at the half, 46-40, in Kachel Gym up in Whitewater. But the Bluejays crumbled like a sand castle in the rain in the second half, shooting only 38% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc while seeing UW-Whitewater streak down the floor for 23 points off of Elmhurst turnovers. The Warhawks cruised to an 88-72 win, so EU's undefeated start to 2025-26 has come to an end. Dom Trelenberg led the way for the 'jays with 18, but 16 of those points came in the first half. Sebastian Blachut (14), Aidyn Boone (12), and EJ Marshall (10) also hit double figures in the losing cause for the Baby-Blue Crew.
