Perhaps we should start referring to NMU as the CCIW's farm team. ;)

Greg, Perhaps, but it would be a no brainer if they would have snagged McNabb. He is quite the get.

And the NMU——->CCIW pipeline is nothing new. Former North Central 3 point bomber Mike Pollack, now an Air Force jet pilot, began at NMU as did former NCC All-American and current assistant coach Alex Sorenson.

Quote from: Gregory Sager on December 06, 2025, 10:43:19 PMQuestion: Should Menzer, Boster, Hamming, Laing, and whatever other Augie 1972-73 players are still above ground pop the champagne corks early? Because after tonight the only undefeated team left in the CCIW is the one team that didn't play tonight: Augustana. The other eight teams are all 1-1 in league play, aside from 0-1 Elmhurst.

Gosh darn-it...I was wrong again.

Every team in the league has played from 6-9 games now, so they're all somewhere around a quarter or a third into the regular season. In other words, a good chunk of the campaign has gone by. And there's only one player in the CCIW who is ranked in the league's top ten in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals -- he's 8th, 3rd, 1st, and 3rd in those categories.

Guess who it is? Here's two hints: He's from Indiana, and he's tied with Vinnie Adjahoungbeta for the longest last name of any starter in the league. ;)

Kolden V., of course. Easy.  ;)

What gave it away? The fact that I indicated that it wasn't Vinnie Adjahoungbeta? ;)

(I can't help it. I just like the name "Vinnie Adjahoungbeta" ... a name that I am happy is on Elmhurst's roster rather than Greenville's, because I'm already having nightmares about calling next Monday's Greenville @ North Park game.)

It's not surprising at all that Mr. Vanlandingham is in the Top 10 for scoring, assists, and steals.  But third in rebounding?  Wow.

Tahj (#23) and Tiaeem (#24) Comeaux, the twins from Las Vegas usually play on the same shift too.  So that should be fun for you.

I'm up for a challenge. All I ask is that Greenville send our SID a roster that includes a pronunciation guide so that I can Comeaux-proof my game call. Sending a roster pronunciation guide is standard operating procedure now in the CCIW for all sports -- I'm proud to say that it was North Park's sports information office that began that practice within the league -- but not every visiting non-conference opponent sends one. Otherwise, I have to go back to my old practice of tracking down a visiting assistant coach or trainer to give me player and coach pronunciations during pregame warmups, and that's a nuisance for them as well as for me.

"Physicality" should never be used, but I'm old. 6-7.

A couple weeks ago I heard Tom Brady say "evolutionized" during a MN Viking game.

Antuan Nesbitt (24 pts on 9-14 shooting) certainly did his part, but Carthage nevertheless fell short to UW-Platteville, 62-59. Nesbitt tried to skip-pass to AJ Johnson in the corner in the waning seconds, but the pass was long and the Firebirds never got off the shot that could've taken them to overtime. They had dug a huge hole for themselves, trailing the Pioneers by 19 (51-32) with ten and change left, and almost climbed out of it ... but "almost" is small comfort when you find yourself 4-4 on the season at the final buzzer. Ryan Johnson (13 and 14) was the only other Firebird who had a noteworthy night, and even he had his difficulties (3-10 from the field) on a night when Carthage only shot 33% from the field and 23% from long range.

Greek Tragedy

A long time ago, I was going to call the Oshkosh at Lawrence game, but it never came to be because of technical difficulties. Prior to that, I asked several fans how to correctly pronounce Lawrence's coach at the time, Joel DePagter. No one I asked knew how. I guess I saved myself from hacking his name too bad. Years later, I found out it's a pretty easy name to pronounce with my kid attending the Oostburg school district.
