Matt Lewis as an assistant at IWU?

Wow, he used to throttle the UWSP Pointers when I was living there.

How'd they get him?

His wife got a nice job at Illinois Wesleyan and he came along.  Not a big demand for head coaches in Central Illinois but I'm sure coach Rose was excited to have an opportunity to have him on staff.  Sure, it's a step down from head coach, but at least he gets to keep his hand in the game and contribute to a winning program.  As for the future, coach Rose and I were in school together but he was 2 or 3 years my junior so I'm guessing he's maybe 61 or 62.  The question of retirement has to come up.  Coach eth ridge the heir apparent but could Lewis upset the apple cart?

Stertorous Thunder

The Thunder continue to keep their roster (including incoming player announcements) under wraps, but there's some coaching news.  After three seasons alongside Mike Schauer and Jon Panner, Timothy Watts has moved on to be the Graduate Assistant Coach at Dallas Baptist University.  It looks like Nyameye Adom will be in the third seat for 2026-2027.

Question for those in the know.  Do most of the CCIW basketball programs make preseason cuts?

It seems like most CCIW rosters are in the 15-20 range.

Other D3 schools, especially those who might struggle with enrollment, seem to keep a lot more.

Hm. Not sure. I suppose IWU could have walk ons that get cut. We'd never hear about it.

I think what happens with most teams is there are a certain number of varsity spots on each team. Guys that don't make the varsity after official practice (as opposed to open gym) begins, are designated as junior varsity as opposed to being cut.

There are a few kids who, what you could say, recruit themselves but generally, there aren't really a lot of what you would call true walk ons. The vast majority of the players have been recruited to various degrees. As above, at some point the coach picks the varsity and the remaining players comprise the JV team.

A nice contingent of former players is expected at 11:00 tomorrow morning when, in conjunction with Homecoming activities, former NCC Head Coach Todd Raridon will be inducted into the North Central College Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 18 years from 2004-2005 through 2021-2022 Raridon compiled a record of 312-160, including winning 3 CCIW Conference Championships, and 5 CCIW Tournament Championships.
The 2012-2013 team posted an all-time season record of 28-4 while advancing to the D3 Final Four.
