The Olivet/Alma result is unknown, but with Hope's win the tournament is set...

#8 Alma at #1 Hope
#7 Trine at #2 Calvin
#6 Kzoo at #3 Albion
#5 Adrian at #4 Olivet

Despite all the split series this year, all 4 top seeds beat their tournament matchup twice this year.

As we all know its hard to beat a team 3 times in one year. ;D :D ;)

I couldn't be happier with Calvin's side of the bracket.

I really enjoyed watching Calvin's game at Albion today. The result is obviously to my liking but I thought it was a toughly contested game without being over physical.

There was one loose ball altercation in which Bryan Powell found himself tackled by an Albion player. I would mention the man in white that was in the middle of the scrum but I am sure that his consistent involvement in such situations is purely coincidental. A foul was eventually called on the play although the Calvin bench did not take too kindly to the incident. I do not know for sure but I am willing to bet that the Knights coaching staff received a warning in the exchange. My guess is that the Calvin bench wanted to be sure to avoid what happened in Holland on Wednesday but the refs (also surely aware of what happened earlier in the week) did not want to be strong-armed into the way they would handle the game. Again, I don't know this is entirely accurate but the exchange between Calvin bench and stripes didn't end with the Albion foul.

Calvin did what they needed to do to win and didn't let any offensive shortcomings affect their defensive performance. Albion looked tentative from beyond the arc and seemed to pass on a number of shots they might have otherwise taken if a few earlier shots had fallen.

Albion's point totals in 4 halves vs. Calvin:

17, 33, 28, 17.

The 33 point half was basically the two benches playing.

Ziggy:  Just listening to the game that play caused a considerable amount of confusion, and at one point Doug. was sure Calvin had gotten a T, but that was not the case as you well know.
I said a few days ago Calvin had to have a plus rebound margin, and it turned out Albion 36, and Calvin 34.  Turnovers Calvin had 14 to Albions 12.   Albion didn't score the last 4:51.  That 3 by Schuster was big, and the right guys got to the ft. line to ice the game.  A much different game than the one at Calvin, and this was probably the real Albion team.

I left this game, feeling the refs probably did the best job I have seen this year.  They kept the game from getting out of control.  Since it was a tough defensive struggle, it easily could have gotten out of hand.  They called the fouls that needed to be called with few exceptions.  They probably called "held ball" too quickly on at least one occasions in which it might have been touch by both players before falling to the ground, but all  in all they did a fine job.  And that has been rare this season.

Watson, excuse me, Massey, finished ninth in the MIAA pick 'em this year. Not a bad showing but nothing that represents anything close to superiority over the general human picker.

But also nothing that his picks and confidence should be rejected because we humans know better. Massey was an above-average picker.

20th year of the tourney and what, the 17th time Hope has hosted Alma? I forget the count, but it is really uncanny how they always find each other. Did Alma beat Hope once, or make it through the first round in a year they drew another opponent?
