I think in general over the pat 6-8 years there have been so many teams looking to host new tournaments that there are not enough to go around.

As far as the Orlando tourney is concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if the economy was another factor. I suspect that strapped athletics budgets have led to fewer basketball programs taking snowbird trips, bake sales and football concession-stand income notwithstanding.

Can't argue with that, but I think we've all seen the increase of the three-team "tourney" in recent years and the accidental classic (not a formal one like the CCIW-MIAA classic or the west coast/southwest snowbird ones, but tournaments that turn into classics because you end up with two teams from the same conference in order to fill it). Schools seem less willing to go on the road and not everyone can attract three (or six, if you're hosting two) teams to their campus every year.

The Redlands University Tourney (Lee Fuller Tourney), which has been going on for as many years as I can remember, is now down to 2 days, which probably means 4 teams instead of the usual 8. Over the past years it hosted a strong field, but recently has had several Southern Cal teams including NCCAA and NAIA teams. Although Chapman is hosting Redlands, Whitworth and Williamette the following week.

I see where Whitworth is coming down for the Chapman Tourney. It seems they are down here every year in the pre-conference schedule. Hats off to the Pirates for scheduling good teams to prepare for the conference games. I look forward to seeing them once againn in Southern Cal. If any supporters are traveling down, please pm me, as I would like to meet you and give you some tips on places to go in Orange and the surrounding area.

Cornerstone has signed its last two players for this year http://www.cugoldeneagles.com/article/1240.php

One of them is DeOndra Callahan who graduated from Lansing Christian in 2008 and made the Lansing area dream team which isn't exactly easy to do some years.  In fact his Sr. year he was the areas leading scorer.  He's been at Mid-Michigan CC the last two years but obviously there are a couple years missing.  Any insight?  I'm just really curious about him and where he's been.  He would have played with Hope's Peter Bunn a couple years in HS.

Also I haven't seen it on here but Austin Semple (Zeeland East) has apparently enrolled at Aquinas transferring from Mt. Vernon Nazarene

It was an MIAA convention in the coaches' break room at our camp yesterday in Lansing, everyone but Calvin but maybe they don't do Sunday so it's cool. Mark White was shaking his head after meeting Eric Dougal, that suddenly he's one of the most tenured coaches in the league.

WOS that Alma and Calvin are going after 6-6 sr. big man Kyle Slagell from here in Alma.  Have watched Slagell play a ton of times.  Athletically he's incredible and has tremendous length and a nice shot.  Needs to get a little thicker, but is probably a borderline d2/d3 guy.  Also hearing some NAIA names thrown in with him too (Cornerstone being one)

Hope updated its basketball schedule to include incorrect or incomplete information, mostly regarding the tournaments its hosting.....just a week ago even. ::)

Also starting times and pairings for the MIAA/CCIW and Hall of Fame games, probably accurate

According to other teams schedules, the tournaments hosted by Hope should be

DeVette/Sentinel
Grace Bible vs Spring Arbor/ Hope vs Covenant
losers vs losers/ winners v winners

Keith Brushwyler from Stevensville-Lakeshore and Cody Stuive from Hudsonville have to be at the top of MIAA coaches' wish list ... http://blog.mlive.com/highschoolbasketball/2012/09/upperclassman_forwards_help_th.html

I cannot believe the article talks about the Alpena kid going d2.  He did not impress me one bit this summer.

Yeah, I don't concur with the coach who said that. Too soft.

To add to that, NCC has updated their site to reflect the teams participating at their season opening "tournament." The schedule has Hope and NCC playing in the Saturday game.

That should complete Hope's schedule. A quick google search did not yield much on the College of Faith. Outside of this.

They are the Mighty Believers from the College of Faith... you can't make this stuff up. Their basketball schedule is 13 games long with almost a month coming in between the last two matchups.
