+1 for road win
-1 for home loss

Trine      5-2   +2  (HPE, OLI, @Adr, CAL, @Alb, KZO, @Alm)
Adrian   5-2   +1  (@Cal, ALB, TRN, @Hpe, @OLI, ALM, @KZO)
Olivet    5-2   +1  (@Alb, @Trn, @Kzo, ALM, ADR, HPE, @Cal)
Hope     4-3    0    (@Trn, KZO, @Cal, ADR, @Alm, @Oli, ALB)
Alma     3-4    0    (KZO, @Cal, ALB, @Oli, HPE, @Adr, TRN)
Albion    3-4   0     (OLI, @Adr, @Alm, KZO, TRN, CAL, @Hpe)
Calvin    2-5    0    (ADR, ALM, HPE, @Trn, KZO, @Alb, OLI)
Kazoo    1-6    -4    (@Alm, @Hpe, OLI, @Alb, @Cal, @Trn, ADR)

No pluses or minuses changed,

Still like Trine's position

Hope can still win out but I think that possibility is near zero.  Hope has shown no ability to win road games vs anyone but a bad Kalamazoo team.   They play Trine, Calvin, Alma and Olivet on the road.  I'd consider any win in those gyms a bonus towards making a tournament spot..........ugh Hope threw away a lot tonight.

IF only the home teams win from here out, Trine wins the league at 9-5 and we have a 4 way tie for the 4th playoff spot between Hope, Alma, Calvin and Albion.

Offensively poor game in Adrian tonight so far. Adrian up 27 to 16 at half.

Kalamazoo has 12 turnovers (several shot clock violations) where Adrian has fastbreaked them following those TOs, but Adrian can't do much in the half court.

Defensively, Adrian's quickness has caused K-zoo to go 6 of 20 and 1 of 8 from 3. Adrian hasn't been much better though, at least in their set, but great D from the much more athletic Bulldogs.

I have been surprised at Adrian's 3point percentage this season, and tonight is why. They are 4 of 13 from 3 tonight, but more importantly, the misses are way off for the most part.

Also, Adrian players have to stop spin moving on their drives. The collapsed D is right there when they do it. Figure something out! Got to get better looks.

Kalamazoo 46
Adrian 65

Adrian played a much better 2nd half. As you can see above, the 1st half was a struggle offensively, but the 2nd half kept the strong defense (most of K-zoo's points came when the game was already far out of hand), but had some better half-court offense (52% FG). Jordan Harris had his best conference game offensively. He shot 7 of 14 and 4 of 8 from 3 leading the team with 18 points. The team needs to run their offenses better, but it would also help to have another strong option on offense.

Some things of note: Sam Colbert had his worst game going 0 for 5 (4 of those being 3's). He is a really good shooter, but I didn't like seeing him shoot from about 27 feet (which he did twice). He came off the bench in this game, and I wonder if that affected him in some way.

Adrian didn't get dominated on the boards...yay! But, it was only 29 to 28 in Adrian's favor. Maybe they would've got some more if they put a couple players on the line during free throws (man, that still grinds my gears).

Weird event of the game: With about 1:50 left in the game, Coach Lindsey emptied the bench (honestly wanted this to happen sooner considering the many minutes Adrian's starters have been playing this season), but there were no whistles for about a minute. Then Adrian missed and K-zoo rebounded and started bringing the ball up the court, and...whistle for no apparent reason.!? The ref got the subs in, but I don't think he can do that, right? The Kalamazoo coach put his hands on his head in confusion and maybe, frustration.

It doesn't matter what night you tune in to Division III basketball, something will surprise you. There are teams leading conferences that weren't expected to be in the conversation, there are programs who continue their record-setting starts to the season, and others who seem to be defying expectations - well, at least those outside of the locker room.

On Thursday's edition of Hoopsville, Dave chats with a few coaches who have programs currently excelling - even if they have hit some bumps in the road recently. One has his program off to the best start in a storied program's history, another is leading a conference that has it's traditional leaders off the pace a bit, a third who was never thought would be on top, and a fourth looking to try and change national minds.

There is also a coach who is doing her best to help those with communications challenges, working on diversity and inclusion, all while leading Gallaudet to bigger and better results. Stephanie Stevens is this week's WBCA Center Court guest and will talk about what drew her to the deaf and hard of hearing university and what else keeps her busy off the basketball court. Stevens was a recent honoree of the WBCA Thirty Under 30.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch the show LIVE starting at 7:00 p.m. ET here: http://bit.ly/2ndxRHj.

Guests include (in order of appearance):
- Bob Amsberry, No. 2 Wartburg women's coach
- Amy Reed, RIT women's coach
- Stephanie Stevens, Gallaudet women's coach (WBCA Center Court)
- Darryl Keckler, Drew men's coach
- Kyle Lindsay, Adrian men's coach

So I'm curious, 6-12 is good right? I mean, why not have a 60 million dollar facility that houses a team that may finish dead last. But hey, at least we still have a steady coach at the helm.

Albion and Olivet have provided the model for putting Calvin's offense on its heals and beating the Knights. Calvin does have some pretty good scoring assets with their bigger players (Bykerk, DeVries and Walter) so if Knights' opponents can use superior quickness on the perimeter to force Calvin's offense to start further away from the basket, the chances of beating Calvin are greatly enhanced. Thus far, the Knights haven't been able to adjust to the style of defense they are seeing. I'm pretty sure Adrian will try to do the same to Calvin today. Irrespective of Calvin's chances of reaching the post-season tournament--which are decreasing by the game--this is why I find basketball endlessly fascinating and frustrating. Who can make adjustments and who can't?

One wouldn't have to make adjustments "to the style of defense" if one stopped using the same tired 22 year old offense.  Please stop implying that the players can't change.  They aren't the problem, and they aren't the ones incapable of change!!!! >:( >:( >:(

There was something to be read into the entirety of my paragraph, no doubt about that. Apparently in the last seven words you highlight, it got totally missed in the translation. :(

Realist - I agree with Oldnight ( however, you went a little further with the 22 years comment).  It is not the players but the lack of making adjustments from the coach.
I know what you are saying.  While IWU has limited experience with Calvin, when Isaw the game this year my thought was - "the same offense, defense and game management as before - even the predictable foul at the end even though you do not have a chance to win because you started fouling too late"

Adrian trails Calvin at half 37 to 40.

Mostly well played half by both teams minus the unforced errors from Adrian. Of the 8 turnovers, 4 or 5 were easily preventable. Calvin has 11 points off the turnovers.

Each team shot very well. Adrian was 14 of 23 from the field (61%) and 4 of 10 from 3, and Calvin was of 7 of 16 from 3. Of the 7, DeVries has 4. Adrian struggled with rotations and close outs in the 1st half (they're doubling low), but it got better after the 1st 8 minutes. Adrian is quicker, but Calvin swung the ball well.

For Adrian, Webster, Harris, and Colbert have 12, 11 and 8, leading the team on offense.

Going to be a close one. Refs are calling this game real tight. Gonna help Calvin due to Adrian's style of defense.

95-72 Calvin figured out how to finish this one.

Calvin with 27 assists on 31 made baskets.  Where's that been?
