stats fans.... anyone know Hope's single game record for steals?  DeVette record?  I could have sworn Krombeen was pushing 8 or 9 last night but I suppose it was because there were so many, so fast.  The sentinel said that david and ty both had 6? Nice work from your backcourt.

I have my own database of Hope stats that has individual game stats from the 01-02 season to the present.  It shows these 5 performances tied with 7 steals.  I suspect that Joel Holstege (the all time Hope leader in steals) had a game or two above 7.

Matt Talyor       12/19/01   Madonna
Ryan Klein        12/08/07   Aquinas
Jesse Reimink   12/29/07   Mt. Vernon Nazarene
Jesse Reimink   02/02/08   Albion
Peter Bunn       12/19/09   Spring Arbor

Apparently 12/19 is a good day to steal something   ;)

Kinda surprised this hasn't been revisited since the Malone game.  Krombeen was credited with 9 steals that night, and set a new fieldhouse record--one that I would think should stand for a long time.  Nice job, David.
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

I was thinking this morning how both Hope and Calvin are without the guys they would try to get the ball in the hands of at the end of last years games.  John Mantel, Matt Veltema for Calvin and Peter Bunn for Hope(actually maybe even the last 2 years).  Even Andy Venema is probably out and he hit some big FT's in Holland last year.

Should the game be close at the end, it will be interesting to watch who both teams feel confident to handle the ball and take the key shots down the stretch.

Don't mean to be "glib" but has anyone read the book Stirctly Speaking by Edwin Newman?  ;)

I have read "Strictly Speaking," by the late Edwin Newman, and I attribute much of my glibness to that fact.  ;)

My sources with the Hope BB Coaches tell me that Eric Immink was recently promoted to the Hope varsity from the JV team just in time for the HOPE/c****n clash in the event of a close game near the end of regulation time.

The plan is to insert him late as a defensive replacement so he can do his "Immink Flop" in case another Calvin guard refuses to pass to a wide open teammate on a breakaway.  Apparently it is about to become a family tradition!

Post them here.  If they're good, we'll forward them to Kevin VandeStreek, Jim Timmer, Claudia Beversluis and Gaylen Byker.  If they're met with stony silence, there's always the Board of Trustees or you could try the overture to Synod route.

I don't think there's much guesswork here. Hope has shown that Bowser is the guy they want shooting at the end of the game, even though Krombeen took the final shot against Carthage. I'd be surprised if Calvin didn't have the ball in Snikkers' hands at the end of a close game.
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...

Happy Calvin Guy

Two interesting quotes from Peter Bunn in the GR press today:

"I'm going to talk to coach. I would like to be on the bench with them"

Why wouldn't he be allowed to be on the bench if he wants to be?  My understanding is that he is injured, not kicked off the team.

"I'll be back next year to play."

This is the first I've heard of this publically.  Something for Hope fans to look forward to and something for the rest of the MIAA to worry about for next season.  Good luck to Mr. Bunn in his recovery and return next year.

Also, the article makes mention of the injury at issue to be the "lingering effects from a concussion that will keep him out of action this year" which is more information than has been in the papers thus far.

Thanks for your gracious offer, but I am painfully enough aware of the current political situation at Calvin to know 5 of your 6 proposed routes to affect change would be a waste of your time.   For now keeping Mr. Green here will have to suffice. ;)

I think it makes a difference if you need 2 points or 3 points.  If Calvin needs 3 I would much prefer to see Mr. Brink have the last shot.  It didn't work well the last time Calvin needed a 3, and Powell took it.

Yes, not good enough given the time they had when they got possesion.

It makes no difference whether I saw the shot or not.  :)  The point is to get the ball in your best shooters hands, and presently that is Mr. Brink for either a 2 or a 3 pointer.

FWIW:  Did you forget Mr. Brink is the one who hit a 3 pointer with 9 seconds left to even give Calvin the slim chance it had?

Its been awhile since we've had such an obvious choice for MVP going into a season.  Barring injuries, illness or other weird stuff, Michael McClary has one hand around the plaque and its his to lose.

25.7 pts, 9.2 rebounds, both lead the league while shooting 54.2% FG

We probably have to go back to the Veenstra or Winkle days to find a player so obviously the MVP before the conference play starts.  Albion's Crawford in 2005 was probably in a similar position, but I seem to recall some debate about that one.
