I saw Keefer and AA Huron play against state champion East Lansing last spring in the quarterfinal.  Seems like he has a pretty good upside.  Held his own against an excellent team on a night Huron was overwhelmed like everyone else.

3 players in that game are going to be on MIAA rosters,  Keefer, Cam Essell at Albion and Kaden Brown should make the roster at Adrian.

Keefer's brother is on the Kzoo roster.

Hope has added an exhibition at home against D2 Saginaw Valley St on Oct 30, new coach and a pretty young team at SVSU this year.

Another Trine MBB 2026 commit:

Jake Holcomb 6'5 F Holland Christian HS MI

Jake had known offers from Calvin, Hope, Albion, Alma and Denison.  This is big news to get a Holland athlete to come down to Trine.  We've lost a couple of Angola basketball players to Hope before (Jake Honer and more recently Lauren Leach), so turnabout is fair play.  I was listening to the Coach Sall interview with Matt and Zach Snyder recently and Coach commented that he wasn't too pleased that Coach VanderWal was intruding in his backyard for players.  He said it in jest, but anyway Jake seems to be a 'good get' for Trine.

Braeden Totton 6'1 G Hamilton Southeastern HS, Fishers IN (known offers from Wabash, DePauw, Hanover)
Ty Maul 6'2 G Darby HS, Hilliard OH (more than likely a guy with a Marietta offer, but don't know for sure)

Both will probably split time with JV and Varsity.  This makes 17 guys currently listed on the Varsity roster.

In other news with Trine, assistant coach Ed Bentley has left the program to become the head basketball coach at East Noble HS in Kendallville IN.  Former Trine standout Brent Cox will join Ed as an assistant coach back at his alma mater.  Trine recently hired Alex Trevino as an assistant coach.  Alex spent the last 6 years as an assistant coach at Wilmington College.

Hope's annual scrimmage with U of Chicago is tonight at DeVos.  I do not know if its open to the public.

Past format has been 3 20 min periods, 1 FT, mostly running clock.  3rd 20 min for subs and backups.  And some untimed situational stuff at coaches discretion.

Hope/Chicago  Format:  Went with two 20 min halves, plus a running clock 3rd or shortened half.

First period Chicago won by 8 led the whole way, mostly due to way better 3pt shooting

Second period Hope won by 4 led the whole way

Third period Hope won by 14, this was mostly end of bench for both teams, but Hope did sneak a few younger guys who will probably be part of the reg. rotation into this period and it showed.


Likely 3 of the Fr. will have regular rotations.  Guard mix is going to be pretty interesting, post play is young.

Tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 5 p.m., Calvin is scrimmaging Cornerstone at the Van Noord Arena.
Next Wednesday, October 29, Calvin is playing an exhibition game at the Wink Arena at Ferris State University.
That's what I know. Not sure of the tipoff time at Ferris.
