Hope miraculously comes back from 17 down with just over 4 minutes to go, to take Trine to overtime, where they ran out of gas. Although their season-long 3-point shooting woes held them back (19% vs. Trine's 40%) credit the Dutchmen with a gritty finish when most viewers considered the game essentially over.

Kalamazoo 0-11     -6

Alma @ Adrian Saturday, winner may end up the 6th seed, but not a sure thing yet.

Albion hasn't quite, but has basically wrapped up the 5 seed, I suppose they could end up higher if some things went mental.

The heavy preseason MIAA favorites maintain their rock solid grip on 4th

Trine plays @ Calvin Sunday, win that and I think they become the favorites with their Olivet game being in Angola.  A loss and depending on what happens in Holland it could be Olivet wrapping up a share of the conference title.

Hope has to beat Olivet Saturday or the dream is basically over but not totally, but basically over.

First place Olivet!

Remaining games:

Albion:  KZO, HPE, @Adr

Kalamazoo:@Alb, TRN, @Alm
Olivet:  @Hpe, ADR, @Trn

Projecting out HOME = win, AWAY = Loss except  Hope, Olivet, Trine, Calvin, Albion win regardless of location vs Alma, Adrian, Kzoo

Trine 84 Hope 75 F OT

All Trine in OT
Hope's first lead came in overtime and that pretty much is the gist of it.  Bonkers comeback from 14 down and just under 5 to play.  Thunder were awful closing out regulation.

Agreed sac.  This game should have never went to OT.  Turnovers, tons of missed free throws. Give credit to Hope though.  The refs let the game be physical and Hope took advantage.  But then again give credit to Trine to finish it in OT after having the life sucked out of MTI by the wild finish in regulation.  I thought no way Trine wins this game as Hope had all the momentum.  Some big buckets and 3's by the Thunder, and they finally hit consecutive FT's.  This game is fickle, it isn't over until it's over.

Olivet might wrap up the regular season league championship earlier if Trine shows up for their rematch with Calvin at VNA on Sunday.

Calvin with a much needed 77-68 win over Trine at VNA. After a back and forth first half, Calvin led 33-30 at the break. The first five minutes of the second frame was much of the same until the Knights broke away from a 41-40 lead, by going on a 30-9 run to take a 71-49 lead, a run fueled by good three point shooting. It began with three straight triples from Luka Ressler and was capped by two more from Parker Swartz, followed by a thunderous dunk from Parker over a pair of defenders. Overway was dogged all afternoon and was "held" to 13, with Swartz and Ressler doing the same, and Winkle adding 12. The downside was seeing Calvin getting out rebounded 41-32, including 12 offensive boards by Trine.

Despite its usual 3-point shooting woes (21%), and but 1 of 13 shooting from its trio of usual starting guards, Hope managed to eek out an exciting 68 to 64 win, thanks to 32 bench points, led by 8 of 9 shooting and 19 points from sharpshooters Carter Bishop and Avery Sanchez. Somehow the smaller Dutchmen also managed to outrebound the big Olivet front line, including snaring 14 offensive rebounds to Olivet's 3. Credit heart and effort for this win.

With Trine's loss to Calvin (thank you Knights), I believe Hope controls its own tournament court destiny—tied with Olivet for the league lead, but having defeated Olivet twice. But against two tough opponents on the road next week, they'll need the starting guards to find their range.

He was literally held by 2 or more people all game long. Almost every Calvin Trine game I have attended, it seems to devolve into a meat grinder, today resulting in a 2nd half ref show with very little flow, thankfully tempered by the Calvin burst that put them up 21 points late in the game and able to withstand a late Trine run.

sac

Both Hope/Olivet games have come down to a final possession with the ball in Olivet's hands.  It seems an early season hard lesson or two may have paid off for Hope. ;)

Nice to see Carter Bishop with 10 pt break out game, he's been so close all year.  Jared Ryg energy on the defensive side of things has been invaluable this week.

Late Feb. and Hope's a pretty gritty team, can't ask for much more than that.

+/- doesn't mean a lot at this point but here it is anyway.

+/-
Olivet    10-2    +4
Hope      10-2    +3
Trine    9-3    +3
Calvin    8-4    +2
Albion    6-6    0
Adrian    3-9    -3
Alma      2-10    -4
Kalamazoo 0-12    -6

We all knew this but Kzoo is eliminated from the tournament, need 1 win to avoid the O'fer.  I'd say I'm rooting for ya, but I'm not.

Adrian's in the 6th spot  Adr/Alm split this season, Adrian will probably need a win or 2 Alma losses, the tie break here might come down to 2nd half MIAA record, which is kinda dumb with unbalanced schedules and I don't now how that would swing.
---Alma beating Calvin would probably hand them the 6th spot, and this is not going to happen

Albion has locked in no worse than the 5th seed, they can tie Calvin and that tie-breaker would depend on the final standings.  ----This is also not going to happen.  Albion is your 5th seed.

Olivet, Hope, Trine, Calvin can end up in alot of different positions and everything will be settled by 5pm next Saturday after Hope/Calvin Olivet/Trine games.

Should be a fun week.

Remaining games:
Adrian:  @Oli, ALB
Albion:  HPE, @Adr
Alma:    CAL, KZO
Calvin:  @Alm, HPE
Hope:    @Alb, @Cal
Kalamazoo:TRN, @Alm
Olivet:  ADR, @Trn
Trine:    @Kzo, OLI

Projecting out HOME = win, AWAY = Loss except  Hope, Olivet, Trine, Calvin, Albion win regardless of location vs Alma, Adrian, Kzoo

Trine    11-3
Olivet  11-3
Hope    10-4
Calvin  10-4
Albion  8-6
Alma    3-11
Adrian  3-11
Kzoo    0-14

A lot of eyes on that Hope/Albion game Wed. night.

Current Standings

Hope 10-2
Olivet 10-2
Trine 9-3
Calvin 8-4
Albion 6-6
Adrian 3-9
Alma 2-10
Kalamazoo 0-12

If I use Massey to predict all remaining games, you get this for final standings:

Hope 11-3 - W Albion, L Calvin
Olivet 11-3 - W Adrian, L Trine
Trine 11-3 - W Kazoo & Olivet
Calvin 10-4 - W Alma & Hope
Albion 7-7 - W Adrian, L Hope
Alma 3-11 - W Kazoo, L Calvin
Adrian 3-11 - L Olivet & Albion
Kalamazoo 0-14 - L Trine & Alma

Should it play out this way, I think the 3 way tie at the top would work out like this. Hope split with Trine and has 2 wins over Olivet.  Trine and Olivet would have split with each other.  So the records of the three tied at the top versus each other would be:

Hope 3-1
Trine 2-2
Olivet 1-3

I believe that would be the order of seeding as well.

OK - so much for the predictions - it is going to be a great week on the court!!
