I guess he heard Calvin might have an opening down low?

Is that legal? Isn't that like a Liverpool player transferring to Manchester Unitded?

Has happened multiple times in the MIAA, most recently TY Horky from Kalamazoo to Calvin in 2024, and Trine aquired Fred & Cortez Garland from Albion and Drew Moore from Olivet all in 2023 (yeah the Natty team).  Josh Decker also from Kalamazoo to Hope that same year.

I don't see him as a D1 guy, so hopefully he'll return to Hope. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not a scout.

Agreed - of the current 1st team All Region players there are 22 with any remoaning eligibility, and thus far 9 of them are in the portal - which doesn't officially open until April 7.

It doesn't open for D1 until the 7th.  D3 athletes can enter at any time.  They're unlikely to get d1 or d2 offers until after the 7th, because those teams don't know what scholarships they have available.  But, for example, we've already seen Bowdoin's Ray Cuevas commit to Brown, because there's no scholarship involved there either.

Quote from: sac on March 26, 2026, 10:43:11 AMThere have been several players from Unity that have played at Hope/Calvin and other MIAA programs as well.

Calvin coach Bill Sall and a bigtime poster are graduates of Unity.

Mark Veenstra is a Unity grad as well. One "bigtime poster" fed him the ball repeatedly during Mark's high school days. Without this 'bigtime poster" doing the same when in college, the big guy struggled to a 2000 point career and All-American status at Calvin. ::)

Actually, Unity's current entire starting five is going to Calvin. Brogan Sherd is also attending but hasn't committed to hoops. Brogan is also a golfer and I think he is trending towards a links career at Calvin. The young man is a terrific 3 point shooter, but he might be thinking that playing a second sport is more than what he wants to take on.

I was thinking more in terms of rivals. Hope v Calvin is a big rival. Liverpool v Manchester United. Not really Kalamazoo v Hope or Trine and Albion.

There have been a handful in recent years that started at one and finished at the other.  Hope's current AD is probably the most notable to transfer to the other though he's an old guy now.

Didn't a couple of Calvin's early 90's teams basically have Grand Rapids Christian's starting 5?

Sac, he's not an old guy to OldKnight or me, who are old enough to remember Jim Schipper transferring from Hope to Calvin before playing at Calvin, and becoming all-league.

Hope commit Kaden Grau's Westview Warriors came up just short in the Indiana High School Boys Basketball 2A championship game today, falling to Parke Heritage 57-56 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indy.  Kaden led Westview with 14 points and 7 boards.  After the game Kaden was awarded the Trester Mental Attitude Award which goes to a graduating senior student-athlete for exhibiting outstanding mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability during their high school career.

Westview is located in the heart of the Amish community in LaGrange County between Topeka and Shipshewana.  The high school only has 330 students in grades 9-12 but plays in a 3300 capacity gym that is always full for the boys games.  There are almost as many horse & buggies in the parking lot as there are cars on game nights.  Hoosiers love their basketball.

I'm telling you, Hope is getting a good one in Kaden, the kid can flat out shoot it.
