Thanks for that post.  Interesting interview with the Whittier HC.  Any football scrimmages for the SCIAC schools?

Whittier, nice to see they have hire a coach with more local ties, BTW they are expecting over 1000 students, since their great experiment, note short signing linemen

Chapman,  I dont expect much of a drop off...Coach O is a good guy...

UR, it's going to come down to how well the O line plays...everyone around UR football knows it...Its very tough to find good ones.  OB is back practicing, I expect him to run less. Quicker plays.

I had an interesting conversation with a non U of R coach. This league as I have been harping when it comes down to who has the best O line in league. Its no secret among the coaches. Hence Coach White at Whittier can not even tell you what offence he will be running. CMS is winning the arms race, facility, national recruiting and very low cost to attend which makes it just as enticing as a some 1AA school. If CMS is not in the top of the league in every sport, the HC should be fired given the fact above. Pomona not far behind given their aid too.

I would expect CMS to be a little down this year. They have a really good defensive staff so that will probably keep them in most games but they graduated a ton of production. They started 10 seniors on offense in their last game of the season including the school's all-time leading rusher. They also appear to have a new offensive coordinator although I know the HC has a big hand in their game-planning and play calling so not sure that's a huge change.

They have recruited really well the last 5-10 years and historically they have been able to do a little bit with transfers and grad transfers so maybe they'll reload quickly, but generally losing that many starters takes time to adjust. They'll need to be very stout on D early in the season.

Zero coverage or news on Redlands that I can find as of today. The Redlands Daily Facts and San Bernardino Sun used to cover Redlands extensively, but not a morsel of coverage anywhere.

I know they had alumni day, but I haven't heard how that practice scrimmage went.

The coaches picked UR just ahead of LV and CLU. Its very early but deserved. Here is what to expect. Defense will be strong again. Looks like three or four all league type guys will be on defense. On offense with the new OC, expect an offense that is more complex for opponents, more sets, motion, quicker passes,...Having an extra coach has helped Good be a head coach, in short more is getting done. However the best O line will win the league, you have to be able to run the ball. So lets see which team emerges as to having some dudes. It looks like the league could be down this season, but this is why they play the games.

On a side note, George Fox game report says we have a new JC qb, we will see at game time.

The heat appears to be breaking a bit in the IE, so it will be a cool 86 at kick off, on the best turf in CA.

I agree about the team with the best offensive line will win SCIAC.  Cal Lutheran does not have an offensive line coach?  The says a lot about the commitment to winning.

No Tremain on the roster for the Bulldogs. Wonder if he wasn't healthy enough to play or if he just left the program. I also don't see Isaiah Alvarado on the roster, who was the bulldogs leading rusher and best offensive player last year, especially late in the season. He's mentioned in the SCIAC coaches poll so wonder if something happened late in the offseason. The new QB is Luke Coleman who looks like he played sporadically at College of the Canyons. He attempted just 21 passes. The article says he's a duel threat and some of his highlights show him running a little but didn't have much production on the ground. Canyons typically has some dudes and plays a tough schedule so this guy might be a stud in the SCIAC but the book remains out until he shows what he can do.

With all the turnover at Fox and being at home this is a game the Bulldogs should expect to win, even with mostly new skill guys on offense. The defense needs to play up to their standard and the offense needs to do enough to get it done. It will be interesting to see what the new OC has up his sleeve.

PP 31 - Willamette 3 - Willamette has no chance
Pacific Lutheran 28- California Lutheran 24 - We will see what type of players CLU brings in.
CMS 14- Lake Forest 17 - CMS lost a lot on offense.. Defense always plays strong. Both teams traveling.. Interesting game in AZ which seems like a home game for Lake Forest.
Hardin-Simmons 17 - Chapman 23 - Going to be a physical game. Hardin Simmons and Chapman return a lot. Chapman playing at home will be the advantage.
George Fox 14- Redlands 17 - Redlands offense will struggle but will be just enough to get by. Losing Tremain will hurt them.

Anything can happen but Chapman beating HSU seems like a stretch....will be interesting to see how they stack up though.

well shoot--Chapman came to play and hung with HSU all night--much better than I thought.  If they play like that moving forward they may end up winning the rest of their games...(and that's coming from a Linfeld fan).

Watched the UR game Saturday night.  At first glance the Bulldogs OL looked much better, averaged 4.4 a carry which isn't bad.  I thought they averaged more just watching as George Fox was bad.  QB play was very lacking, which is becoming the norm at UR.  50% completion is not a good stat, but when you are just throwing the ball downfield, it's gonna be low.  Defense played superbly and were put in some bad situations.  Was shocked that they didn't record a sack on the night.

With a bye week before Whitworth, hopefully they get the QB spot fixed.  Chapman playing well against the #6 team in the country doesn't look to good for the rest of the SCIAC.

UR Saturday Night

I agree with 10FWY for the most part.

Offense, O line did not look worse, What I liked...multiple offensive sets. Many more than the past and I am sure they have more. This makes the opponents defense work harder during the week on their game plan. I like how we tried to use the TE. QB has some work to do and improve, my hope since he has not played a ton he will get better.
Defense was tight, UR D line goes 7 deep, DBs looked pretty good but were not threaten a lot by GF qb. Our inverts are new and I am used to them coming up and supporting better on the run. I am sure they will work it the next two weeks. This is our greatest weak spot on D.

Kicking game, 1 out of 4 wont cut it, if we go 3 out 4, it would have changed GF play calling quit a bit. GF is not as good as they have been in the past, but a win is a win.

Agree that the OL looked better. They are bigger and moving better than the last few years which is a good thing. QB play was not inspiring, and it's kind of mind boggling as Redlands used to be able to get strong QB options through the door easily. It's his first start, so hopefully just nerves at a play.

George Fox QB could not throw the ball, so tough to tell what the defense will look like until they face a true passing attack. Front 7 looked good though.
