Is there a level below rock bottom? If there is, I'm sure Jim Good will find it.

What a catastrophic hire he turned out to be. Fire the whole staff at the end of the season and start over.

The thing about the Jim Good era is that almost everyone associated with the program knew he wasn't the guy. There was nothing in his background indicating he was or qualifying him to even get an interview for the Redlands HC job or any other decent job in America. People that have worked with him know it and have told me privately (whether they'll admit it on the record or not they have personally told me). Heck, he wouldn't have gotten an interview for most of the decent private HS jobs in Socal. He was hired because he was there and the U of R AD at the time wanted to do the absolute least amount of work possible.

The Redlands job would have been attractive at the time. Would Brett Elliot have been interested? Probably not. But no way to know. That should have been a national search to get the absolute best guy. It wasn't and they promoted Jim Good and then took the rest of the afternoon off.

I feel bad for MM and all of the alumni who worked with their blood and sweat to build that program. Has to hurt to see it like this but better days are ahead.

That program is dead. Redlands is getting a huge dose of karma for how they treated Mike Maynard.

Call Kurt Bruich and see if he will take the job. He's a Redlands football great, lives in Redlands, has a California HS state championship to his name, and knows ball. He would probably say no, but at least ask him.

Repeat and rinse...

The issue is the players UR is now recruiting. I do not know if financial aid structure has changed but the roster is the not the same. UR is no longer getting players from certain areas they did in the past, including N.Cal and Washington.

The game, the Regals QB is better than ours, they exposed our DBs (corner, FS, inverts) as I have said day 1, to say they looked lost is an understatement, blowing assignments, man we bite hard too. The players starting in UR secondary were third string 10 years ago. UR can stop run but horrible at pass, plus UR usually has one big pass rusher but this year none. Once again different kids than the past.

On offense the plan was pretty good, use FB and multiple TEs. However, as the game went along the Regals adjusted coverages etc. and our QB cannot make plays. Once again, this kid would be a third team back up a few years ago. He missed some very easy throws.

UR Fans, it's going to be tough going, La Verne game is a toss-up at this point.

It's the leadership of the program,
not financial aid structure. Men's basketball and Women's softball face the same challenges, and they are elite programs. Other sports at Redlands are doing better than football as well.

The Jim Good experiment has been a drastic failure, and the entire staff needs to be fired. They collectively are a part of this rot and the program needs a full reset when this season concludes.

Your concerns regarding Redlands are valid because CLU is really not any good.  No run game and same old O-line.

I think the quality of athlete at UR has dwindled a little bit.  I suspect it is due to the lack of effort being put into every facet of the program.  If the kids played hard, it would be one think, but it appears that the kids are playing very lazily and that is what the coaches allow.  You are either coaching it or allowing it.  Hopefully the AD is putting some feelers out to potential candidates.  6 years ago this was a top 25 program that would have gotten some big names.  Now, program has potential, but time will tell.

The stats for UR are appalling at best.  Below rock bottom.  Not even pretty Good.
Points Per Game- 9.33/Opponents 33.33
Total Points- 28/Opponents 100
Yards per game- 288/Opponents 395, Opponents are averaging 6.5 yards a play.
Redzone- 3 of 8 for UR/Opponents are 13 of 14

APU didn't show much, but I suspect UR will have trouble with them.  0-5 is a reality for the Bulldogs.

Big one at the sports bowl this week as the Stags play host to Cal Lutheran. Both teams coming off of emotional, rivalry wins and from the looks of it the winner will be the key challenger to Chapman for the conference title.

Stags only managed 2.6 yards per carry against Pomona and I'm not sure throwing it all over the yard against Cal Lu is going to be a winning approach. Farley and the Kingsmen O have been putting points up in bunches so far so if the Stags can't run it and keep them off the field they're going to have to play this game in the mid 30's to have any chance. That hasn't typically been a comfortable style for CMS.

I'm also interested in Redlands/APU this weekend.  Redlands is likely a heavy favorite here BUT...Redlands probably isn't going to run away and hide from anyone offensively and the APU offense is unlike anything else teams have had to prepare for in the SCIAC.  If the Fly offense gets the Bulldogs on skates a bit, maybe this is interesting in the second half?

This weeks games ....

The Regals and the Athenas. I will take Athenas, I don't think the Regal's run defense is not that strong. Athena by Puppies and the Cougs, UR by 7, Cougs just don't have enough yet, Citrus is a nice stadium to play in..but...
Leo's and the Chickens, I am going to take the Leo's, by 3, too many small thighs on those Chickens
Panthers and Poets, the Panthers will run the undies off the Poets, +14

BTW RBF, admissions has changed, softball is one pitcher from being good and basketball is not hurt by admissions edict. I have already said there seems to be a push to get the sports programs going. Current admissions work against UR as you and I know it...I agree a lot of football issues to fix too, but the school in general is not getting kids from areas they used too.

Nah, don't buy it at all. Tons of schools nationally that have stricter admission standards than Redlands and have night and day better sports programs than Redlands, including football.

And you're being disingenuous about the softball program and their success. Leadership is what elevated that program to win a National Championship and same for a basketball to make the Elite 8 and R32 in the last 2 seasons.

You're a Jim Good supporter, and that's fine, but let's be frank here as you didn't play football at Redlands like many of us here. We played to a standard of excellence and are sick of what's happened.

Jim Good has wrecked a highly respected and successful program and needs to be fired a long with his entire staff.
