I dont mean to be a d*** at all.  I'm just frustrated.  I feel like there's always something though when Alfred wins.  Like if AU beats IC this year, it will be because IC is having a down year.  Or something along those lines.  Its like the programs that get the respect only want it when its conducive to them.  If a team trying to gain respect wins, the other program is having a down year.  I'm just trying to figure out how many more times AU has to play for the E8 crown, beat Fisher, have a 1-2 loss season, have record breaking players and all-american's before they start getting national respect.

I hear ya.  But I also bet if Alfred beat RPI, Alfred would have been ranked ahead of SJF in the poll.

And don't feel so bad.  In reality, SJF really only did anything nationally in 2006.  Every other year they were just a regionally good team.

I appreciate that, thanks Johnny P!

I just really dont get it... Alfred, the defending E8 Champions beat SJF handily and yet they still get no respect? Like come on!! What has SJF done that's so great this year? Why does the fan polls think that SJF should still be higher than AU? An RPI loss? Who cares!! AU is undefeated in the E8, they just beat Fisher, and they are still behind them in the fan polls...

It's just ridiculous.  I have A LOT of respect for SJF but when is AU going to finally get the respect that they deserve?

It's a fan poll. What do you expect?

Ok, let me apologize if I came off antagonistic previously. I do respect Alfred's program, but there's some facts you're misrepresenting here:

1) Alfred has only had one one-loss regular season. They've had three-loss regular seasons in 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2004. The difference between a one and three loss team is wide.

2) There's nothing wrong with playing for a conference crown, but don't you think the national respect will come with winning it? The E8 has had five different conference champions in recent seasons, but only Fisher's done it more than once.

3) The national voters think you're the 20th best team in the country. That puts you in the top 10% of all teams in D-III. How possible disrespect is there?

SJFF82

AS8...you are attempting to garner national respect from 1 in conference victory....it just aint going to happen.  BTW, its one poll and one spot.  Would you really feel a ton better if AU was one spot ahead of SJF?  Besides 'we' have our own ER fan poll (which I havent looked at yet this week), but I am sure AU is ahead of Fisher there...

AU is ahead of SJF in the National D3.com poll....right???

This whole National respect thing is actually an illusion anyway because 99.9 % of the season is regional.  You dont even get to compete on a 'National' level until the final 4, unless you are MUC being shipped East to devour its appetizers every Nov/Dec.

....and boy oh boy, AU hasnt remotely ever sniffed the final 4, the final 8 or even the final 16....so there can be no National respect so to speak for them just yet.

And yes, SJF did compete on a National level, and competed well.  They also returned to the Final 8 a year later, and for all intents and purposes that was the same as the final 4, because it was against MUC again.

I do feel your respect 'pain' though...in 2006, I was 'battling daily on the LL boards in late October and early Nov.  argiung that the SJF squad was going to do things in the NCCA...and posters were bashing me repeatedly about respect claiming SJF wasnt even going to compete against Union....AND even if they did, MUC would eventually steamroll them....well the proof was and is in the proverbial pudding for these things....

...so relax, because you did beat SJF, savor it, gloat in it, talk **** if you want....you deserve to....but AU will have to win 6 more consecutive games and then actually do more than score 1 first quarter TD and lose 55-10 to MUC, before you can stake a claim to any 'National' respect.

sax8 i dont know if the coattails of 06 is right- but it is close.
you have to remember that it wasnt just MUC that they hung with that got them notariety.
It was the way they got to the final 4....
They CRUSHED the "Beast of the East" Rowan....That wasnt only a signature win that season- it was a program builder.
So the fact that Fisher was no longer a secret and now on the National radar meant everything to the program.
Fisher has followed up with consistant post season appearances and look to do the same this year.
AU has not done that--not even close....

sorry--a little blunt- but true

Very understandable.  I have so much respect for that.  I was literally yelling and cheering in my dorm room for Fisher in 06.

But my point is this... that was 4 years ago.  Why can't this be AU's year? Why do people have make it seem like the Fisher loss was almost a fluke and not accept AU is the better team?

I know the 2006 seems forever ago but the SJF program still gets a "that was the team that gave MUC a run" thought when the name is mentioned.  You're kind of right in that respect in regards to living off of past success but that's the way it goes sometimes.  If AU does something similar you'll be in the same boat...

Than can be AU this year (honestly I thought it was going to be them last year) but there's an old saying...

Much appreciated guys, I get a little hot headed sometimes.  Just have a lot of school pride and I think AU can hang with the best of them, that's all.

Frankly,  I am happy that Coach Murray and staff and players have brought AU to the point where we are even being discussed with some respect.  It used to be that many teams could assume they were going to beat us.  Those teams can no longer assume that.  Let's take care of business Saterday and then look forward to a rip snortin' time against Ithaca!!

...and tarnish their perfectly fine Rodney Dangerfield image? No way! Let the polls be as they may. Don't get your jock strap in a knot, AS8. The only thing that matters is what happens on the field.

Now Pep was thinking....Rochester beat Worcester Tech, Worcester Tech beat RPI, RPI beat Alfred....then UR could very well hand the Saxons their second loss of the season.
