Morning shift taking a long weekend.

AUPepBand

Good morning, E8PP crew!

Looks like AU Pep Band will be at Utica Saturday. Will have a tuba, baritone, trumpet, flute, drum and kazoo competing with canned music. First time AUPepBand has mustered a band for the Utica game, which always seems to come during Mid-Semester Break.

A four-piece AU Pep Band made the trip to Oneonta for AU's 41-21 win over Hartwick at the wick's Homecoming. Canned music at newly dedicated "Wright Stadium".

Two trumpets, a trombone and a bass drum...played the fight song many times, but sometimes were interrupted by the canned music. But if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! AUPepBand, playing the bass drum, was ecstatic when the Wright Stadium DJ spun "Bang the Drum All Day"....AUPepBand seen banging the bass drum and singing along. AUPepBand....sans dignity. Surely an embarassment to his children. No wonder they stayed home.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Hey, since the FDC has the weekend off, why not come up to Utica and cheer on the Saxons?

Too long a drive for myself and yellowhat to be sure.  I would like to see Keeley play.  I just found out he is from Cal-Mum.

hey fa91 --do you know how the e8 evolved into the teams that are in it.-- it looks like the oil companies put it togeather-- if you could realign it -how would you do it?

realistic

GP - The E8 is such a mixed bag because of the makeup of the Empire 8 for other sports and the schools that actually play football in the region.  Ideally, I would love to flip Norwich and Brockport but it will never happen.  When the league shift happened a few years ago with the push for the automatic qualifier, schools jumped at conferences....and the E8 was formed.  The other issue with the conference is the powers that be trying to have "like-minded academic schools".  This is obviously interpreted in any way, but that was the other big issue.

Personally, I think the E8 is as good as it can be given the makeup of football in NY.  It's a solid conference with only two out of the way teams for road trips.  Also, I think the league is really coming into its own identity and looks to be even more solid in the future.

thanks realistic--makes sense-

GP- realistic is right on about the formation of the E8 conference.  It had to do with the teams that play football in this region and "like minded academic schools."  I also think the E8 might now be the best overall conference in the east region.  Fisher, Ithaca, Springfield, and Alfred are all playoff quality teams.  The LL is another good conference but I don't think the teams are as good overall (even though they dominated in the NCAA's last year).  I do admit the LL is good near the bottom of the conference (WPI, SL, now RPI).  Better than Hartwick, Norwich, Utica.  This year the E8 will surprise alot of people in the NCAA's and hopefully send a team to atleast the semifinals.  Could be Fisher, Springfield, Ithaca, even Alfred if they take care of business (which they probably wont).  All in all its gonna be an exciting end to the regular season thats for sure.

St. John Fisher College...King of the East

the only other thing that i could add would be that the private colleges in the upstate area that werent strongly affiliated with a conference, or werent thirilled with their league at the time, wanted another strong upstate league...

The addition of "like" institutions is a good observation.
I just wish the E8 was around when i was there...

We were independant ECAC

Jose, what firm in Tampa are you working at. My buddy just did a callback there today at Phelps Dunbar...absolutely loved it.

I am at Thompson, Sizemore, & Gonzalez.  I went on a call back with Phelps Dunbar when I was a 2L.  Good firm.  They have only been in Tampa about two years and are really working hard to build their practice.

Do you guys call yourself "Tom Sizemore" for short? That may or may not have been original, I'm not all that familiar with the law firms in Florida. Phelps Dunbar is a pretty solid firm, they're one of the bigger ones here in NOLA.

And just a general lack of intriguing games this week besides Port/SC.
