The Arroyo move wasn't horrible, only for the fact that he is now overpaid, and it again gave them the opportunity for a Dice-K, and while they could have used him last year, there's just no room this year.  Lester will be healthy soon, and he'll get that 5th spot instead of psycho Tavarez.  And you never know if Clement will come back.  Their biggest f-up recently was losing Hanley Ramirez and maybe Annabel Sanchez, but those aren't even a big deal.  I like Lugo, except he grabs his nuts too much and it makes me uncomfortable.

Yea they could have had arroyo cheap and he would have fit in the pen at least.  There was something else going on with him though.  He was nailing Mannys wife or something like that.  Clement was also a horrible signing.  Good thing they have the money to eat up garbage like that though.

And lugos nutrubs are some of my favorite parts of the games now.....

Funny you mentioned that, this past weekend, one of my buddies said Arroyo got moved because he was banging Theo Epstein's fiance......I told him it was a crock, but now not so sure.....

TDT -- Actually the Sox are in Toronto for two more against the Jays, I believe. The Yank-Me's are at the Trop.

BC: I was referring to the Yanks.  Sorry that wasn't clear.

U89: Is she worthy of the hard salami???  Pics of FMTE would be much appreciated...

RE: Damon

TDT has heard from very reliable sources that the Sox think Jacoby Ellsbury will be better than Damon.  Remember that name, he has been very impressive when I've seen him play in spring training.

Random story of the day.

So JU was walking home from the store last night and I pass this church on the way.  Now this is a big Catholic Church with a big rectory and a few priests and whomever else living there.  Anyway, as I pass by the first floor I hear these profanities comming from the TV set.  So not really snooping I kind of look in the room and see whats on, and I see someone at a desk playing one of the Grand Theft Auto Games!!  And this guy isnt just playing around either.  He is in a bus, cruising some downtown street intentionally running over people on the sidewalks for no reason!  This was a major WTF moment.

RE: Aroyyo

Yea something was goin on with that guy that pissed someone off that was non baseball related.

ok for the sake of saying it I will come out and say that I am a Yankee fan...but I am a Baseball fan first....the red sox screwed up with damon just for the fact that they let the yankees get him... secondly..I'm still not sold on Dice-K and won't be sold on him untill year 3 or so...if you look at Nomo who came out with as much fan fare as Dice-K nomo was incredible for a couple of years and then all the work and throwing got to him.... Though at the time of the Arroyo trade I liked it because Pena is a great outfielder... I don't like Drew and don't trust him as far as I could throw him...he is always hurt and changes teams as much as he changes his underwear.

RE: Aroyyo

Yea something was goin on with that guy that pissed someone off that was non baseball related.

TGP thinks B-yo put more emphasis on his outside interests than he did on baseball.

Case in point, TGP took his old man to see the Yanks-Sox at Fenway back in July 2005 (first game back after the All Star break).  It was B-yo's turn in the rotation to start, so he was pitching.  The night before he was up late at a bar in boston for his (cover song) album release party (same deal when TGP went down to Anaheim to see the Sox play the Halos later in August, B-yo was starting, and the night before he had an appearance/gigged/partied at Sonny McClean's - a Boston/Sox bar in Santa Monica).

Not surprisingly, in the bottom of the 1st after the Sox were up 4-0 after an explosive offensive display, B-yo gets shelled for 4 runs killing the Sox' momentum and never quite looking ready to play the rest of the game.

Side note - at the Yanks-Sox game, TGP and Dad were up on the bud roof.  Real highlight of the trip was being asked to look after a WS championship ring (one of the Sox PR people was on the roof top letting folks check out the ring).  At one point when the crowd was getting big asking to try on the ring, the PR guy looked at TGP and said "here, you're in charge".  He dropped the ring into my hand and took off for about 15 mins.

TGP was both thrilled and freaked out - of course TGP would have been hunted down and pummeled by the BPD if TGP tried to pull a Putin.  Either way, it was pretty cool.

Regardless, yet another example of why the Sox didn't want/need Arroyo around.  You come to the Sox, you get paid a lot of money to play baseball, not to do cover band bar gigs the night before you're supposed to start.

PBR, you don't even need a new stadium to have high ticket prices.  A seat at Fenway is far and away the most expensive in all of baseball....2 things obviously drive this, demand/interest in the Sox and seating capacity at Fenway.....Fenway is tiny compared to almost any other park in all of baseball.

More on Fenway, the sightlines suck......the seats are narrow as hell.....beer is $7.50 for 16 oz. drafts of Miller Lite....to get 2 beers, you wait in huge lines and miss about 30 minutes of the game....stadium itself stinks like whizz.

All those things, but Fenway is still the best place on earth....to walk through the tunnel and out to the seating area is totally overwhelming....all those liberal bastards who used to hold up signs for a new ballpark should be forced to eat Price Chopper brand macaroni & cheese.

First off, Nomo had a hell of a career over here.  11 seasons, Rookie of the Year in 1995, 2 4th place finishes for the Cy Young, a career 4.21 ERA which was inflated his last 2 years as he was getting old, 7 10+ game winning seasons, 123 wins overall, he finished first in K's per 9 twice, with 1 2nd, 2 3rds, and 1 4th, over 190 innings pitched in 7 seasons, Made $34,209,000 total in his career, and 2 no-hitters.

He did NOT have the same hype as Dice-K until he won Rookie of the year, and it was still nothing like this.  So far, I am happy with Dice K because I only think he is going to get better.  While they say the hitters will get used to him, he will also get used to the hitters and more comfortable with how to pitch them.  He will be just fine.  With the the negotiation fee aside, Dice-K's contract is not too big, and he is the best 3rd pitcher in baseball, no doubt about it, and surely enough he'll be a solid #2 throughout his career.

As far as Johnny Damon, I have to agree with TDT that the Ellsbury kid is the future, and Damon's contract is not worth his ability.  He's good, and we loved him, but good riddance.  Go to the star studded Spankees and be ordinary.  That's fine.  The Sox will manage.

superman57

Lew I agree with you at some point you fo have to say thank you but no thanks with the contracts....but come on look at the spending nowa days Damon is better than JD drew...and Damon was the heart and soul of the red sox...to me it would be like Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera playing for the red sox

PBR...

pbr totally agrees with you u89 although pbr thinks ol' georgie will surpass by a large margin what the sox are charging. seems like these new ball parks give the owners carte blanche to charge whatever they want for tix and concessions, parking. let alone factor in the idiotic seat license fee's these tools charge as well. pbr's friends who go fairly regularly to yankee games are shuddering what they will have to pay at the new stadium

Wow LD, that's a lot of nomo info... but I think you left out his high score of 1,345,000 in Q-bert and his record 3 consecutive hole-in-one's at Crazy Eddie's putt putt course in Mattapan.

Johnny played for the Sox for 4 years.  Jeter and Rivera are lifers.

And so far, JD Drew has been just fine in my eyes.  Maybe he needed a real baseball market.
