Sup Brothers?  Been a while, but trying to get back in the swing of things.  Got a lotta bad news, but silver lining mentality rules my world...

1) Been unemployed since Jan. 1 -- didn't want to say it to many people, but it ends up being the worst kept secret known to man.  Story is that I went to a smaller firm for a better quality of life -- and the partner sort of wasn't tremendously up front about his prior broken-up partnerships and that a couple rainmakers that were there could be leaving.  The youngest one takes the bite, as always.  I have some options, but I'd prefer the next step down here to be a good firm with longevity for me; sick of the bouncing around.  I don't want sympathy -- shyt happens.  If you know of any connections, though, don't hesitate -- I never pass up some good networking.

2) 70yo mom broke her ankle a few weeks back in two places -- but she's in surprisingly good spirits.  We had the whole fam together in Florida for a few days...amazing to kinda just watch her smiling at the table but being quiet when all three kids and the granddaughter are all together again.  It gave me perspective as to what really matters, especially after being in the shadows of Topic 1 above for a month.

3) TGP -- Happy belated!!  Hopefully the Level 4 hangover has subsided by now.

4) KS -- Sorry for the loss of your friend.  Even with all the shenanigans, guys like you and your friend make me proud to be an American -- whether or not Michelle Obama is or isn't.

5) Berkley, CA, can kiss my ass.  They can protest due to freedom of speech rules.  Freedom of speech rules wouldn't exist without our soldiers in the military.  There's this faction of the world that wants to permanently keep quiet anyone with an XX chromosome set -- and that would mean those same women who are running their mouths like jackasses in CA.  Perhaps that city can be annexed to Iran for a week so they understand what suppression really is like.

6) I'm happy to announce that WRUC will have a complete broadcasting crew for football this season -- Zach Antillety on play-by-play and Alex Audino on color commentary.  We're attempting to work out a plan to bring the away games still to WABY with Carm Audino, Tom Santa Barbara and myself still providing the in-booth coverage for 2008 for the away games -- and then giving WRUC, assuming everything works according to plan, the full reins in 2009 (both Zach and Alex are currently freshmen).  WRUC's crew would handle home game duties this year, though.  Nothing is set in stone yet, but I think this preserves what we've worked hard to bring Union fans over the past few years.  I'll keep you updated.

7) Where's RT, and where's The Think Tank been?!

8 ) To the NY Times:  equal time is merited.  Here's a great story about John McCain's son, Jack, and his closeness with his dad -- KS might appreciate this one:  http://navy.scout.com/2/728757.html

9) I got an email from my old job today -- I had agreed to do the COBRA extension of health benefits, and for some reason, they didn't tell the provider to bill me directly.  So, the old job is paying on my behalf and now billing me.  How much is a monthly benefit for me, you ask?  $618!!  Gimme a break -- especially with $20 co-pays and a crappy dental plan.  I went online and self-employed folks can sign up for Atlantis Health Plan for $308 a month for the same co-pays -- and use a Dental PPO for $100 annually.  They want me to pony up for 3 months of COBRA ASAP, even though I never got directly billed.  Anyone have any insight as to the best way to handle this one?

10) Is it weird that I'm already looking forward to the Shoes game for this year?  Yes, RT, we can do the pregame show again.

Missed ya all, and will be more religious to the board in the near future.

Frank,

A better opportunity is a round the corner.  JT has had similar situations happen to him before.

JT found this about COBRA.  Looks very similar to your deal.  The first answer might be your out.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Didn't read it, but NYT is dogma - they have no street cred left.

It would be funny to see the Russians invade Berkely (Red Dawn style), and then see those whimpy bastards run for their lives......

Frank, good luck buddy.  You will land on your feet, just a situation a waiting for what is right for you.  Good to hear your mom is in good spirits under a trying situation.

Have a good weekend all......

Frank best of luck..

I had to laugh at the adjoining posts..."Frank what kind of law are you in?"... followed by "Laker Girls!"

I'm sure they need representation.  It may lead to a whole new area of practice... legal services focused on the litigation needs of professional dancers.

There you go Frank, organize the NBA team dancers into a union and become their legal consultant.
