Any update on Merchant Marine and their status this week? I know Pat and Keith mentioned that the coaches weren't allowed to speak about the situation. However, do we have any word on if Rochester is going to play Alfred State or if RPI is considering playing Alfred State on November 2.

According to the Alfred State website, the Pioneers are hosting Hudson Valley Community College at 12 noon Saturday, Nov. 2. Pep spoke with Coach Caba prior to the season and learned that Alfred State will honor its contracts with Erie Community College and HVCC this season, both the second year games of a two-year contract. The Pioneers have nine games on the 2013 schedule with open dates on Oct. 12 and Oct. 26.

Erie cc and HVCC usually put out some decent players. Interesting to see how AS will do. Is there squad that much different from last year?

Last year, in what was its final year of junior college play, Alfred State defeated HVCC 30-24 but lost to ECC 30-7.

After starting out 0-3 against Ohio Northern, Concordia, MI and Husson, respectively, the Pioneers have put together two straight wins over Apprentice School 55-41 and Williamson Trade 48-0. The Pioneers had lost to Apprentice last year, 35-21.

Alfred State attracted the same sorts of quality players as HVCC and ECC....talented kids that preferred to play a couple years of junior college in hopes of getting noticed by Division I scouts. The Oakland Raiders' Rod Streater played at Alfred State, then transferred to Temple where, as a WR, he flew under the radar with a run-oriented offense but was made a good impression on the Raiders.

Pep is thinking the Pioneers' move to D3 will drastically change the types of players they will be able to recruit. They won't be getting the DI prospects anymore because they won't want them to transfer after two years, IMHO.

The game in question btw UofR and AS would happen this Saturday, not 11/2.  In theory, given that the Jackets only have 9 regular season games and a long shot at a pool A, they could play MMA on 11/23.  That said RPI would have to make its own call, as we explained on the show Sunday, the NCAA has very clear rules re how forfeits can or can't be awarded in lieu of actual scheduled games.  If mma is back online, RPI would play the mariners at that time.  If the mma season is effectively cancelled by then, the Engineers could reach out to alf state, but not now.

Pep is thinking that Alfred State playing at University of Rochester this Saturday, Oct. 12 (for their Homecoming) would actually work, depending, of course, on whether the Pioneers were even here in town to prepare. Alfred State is on its Mid-Semester Break. Classes resume tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 9).

The Rev is sitting in the middle of a category 1 hurricane. It's not bad. Very entertaining. Quieter than my family.

Seems early in the week to make this call, but it's done now.  A shame for USMMA to lose a second game.  Maybe it gets made up on 11/23 (or not).

Hobart game notes are up if anyone is interested.  http://hwsathletics.com/documents/2013/10/11/20131012_HFB-SPR_Notes.pdf

Interesting tidbit on the first page - they've had 29 plays of 20+ yards and at least one 50yd+ TD in each game.  That's an average of 7.5 20+ plays per game (and really higher since they only played a half against Dickinson and WPI, 3 quarters vs. MMA and less than a full game vs UC).  I don't believe that's the strategy and probably is part of why their TOP is running about 28 min thus far.
