I was just thinking about the Hobart coaching situation again.  I agree with Bartman that the next head coach (hopefully not for a long time, since Cragg is an exemplary HC) would be hired by the next AD.  Is the AD position at Hobart not a highly sought out position, since the colleges still maintain a full time AD for the women's programs (under William Smith College)? Overall the colleges are very successful in mens and women sports, just wondering if having 2 full time AD's cuts back on the prestige of the job.

I'm not sure the "prestige" would matter.  I'm guessing the Hobart AD gets paid as much as other LL AD's, maybe more than NESCAC ones because of the Lax team (Hobart got jammed up before on this so I'm sure they are willing to pay more for qualified ADs with experience running D1 programs).

Great interview of Coach Swanstrom on this week's D3Football.com  podcast.  IC is going to be the favorite at the beginning of the season, playing with a target their backs from day one.

Current Hobart President is alum and ex athlete....I am sure the next AD will get a lot of attention and an expectation to excel , could be a combo job going forward but the separate identities is critical for most alumni/ae ....in any case ,expect  a lot of support for the new AD to continue successes of Mike Hanna.....a great job for the right candidate but technically has not been posted yet..... Brian Miller is doing a good job as interim AD and doubling as Compliance Officer for both D1 and D3 having been placed in the job after the D1 administrative snafus a few years back

SLU released it's 2018 schedule. I think we already knew most of this already, but here's the formal PR:

I just went back through the Hobart "Comin Atcha" archives, and it looks like it wasn't until March 21st of last year that Hobart announced its 10th game (against SJF).  So, still at least another 3 weeks to wait.....

I am thinking Hobart will make a coaching announcement soon.

Some big announcements today for Hobart Football. Mike Cragg has taken over a new position as leader for the Athletic Advancement effort at the Colleges, and has stepped down as head coach. President Vincent has a very aggressive agenda for athletics , and Coach Cragg will have great credibility in leading the efforts. Kevin DeWall has accepted the position as Head Coach , and will be the first Alum HC of football since Babe Kraus '24. Evidently Coach Cragg was very involved in selecting his successor as he mentored Kevin before his departure to Endicott. Congratulations to Kevin and good luck in the future(I think his OC experience will help in the transition from Drach). While I would love to have Coach Cragg continue in his role, I think passing the baton to Kevin at this time is great. I am glad to have both of them in Geneva again and can't wait to win some more LL titles and enhance our athletic facilities.

It will be interesting to see how Kevin fills out the coaching staff.... Cragg was a bit more involved in the defense and special teams while Drach handled the heavy lifting on the offense. Kevin  always had a talent for shaping the offense to the available skill set....plus he had some great special plays to keep the opposition on their toes. It will be fun to see him develop the team. Keeping the recruits and team in tact should not be an issue for him....I am sure he is on the cell already and probably has a team meeting set with Coach Cragg adding support.  If he can figure out how to win the LL(now that IC will most likely be the favorite)in his first year it would be a real feather in his cap. I am sure DeWall is going to bring some of his coaches from Endicott with him.  I imagine he could promote from within to the OC position (maybe the Oline coach, Green?).  I would expect Coach DeWall to keep a close eye on the offense, regardless.  I think Drach still coached the QB's, I wonder if DeWall will take over this role.  Defensively, the DC has only one year under his belt, so I guess it is always possible to have a new coach assigned.  Did DeWall's DC from Endicott leave as well?   As much as I am going to miss Cragg, and I know the players are going to miss his leadership/mentorship, it seems like DeWall is the absolute perfect fit to take over the head coach role.  Exciting times for Hobart!

DeWall has some decisions to make as I am sure Drach is ready to compete with him on coaching staff if there is anyone interested in a new situation. Many of the Florida kids were recruited by Drach , so Green could be of interest to both as he is from Florida and may have been a  Drach recruit and worked under him as OC. I am not sure that Green is ready to move up to OC at Hobart, but I am not informed enough to really judge. The current Hobart DC is DeWall's former teammate and has only been there full time for a year but I think he left his Geneva school job to become DC, while his ex DC at Endicott is available(forget his name) and was pretty effective. I am sure he will navigate this pressing priority, but there could be some musical chairs. This is also a sensitive time for recruits , even if they have committed, so the Hobart pipeline needs to be secured and who knows, DeWall may have some tricks up the recruiting sleeve from Endicott. I am sure Cragg will help where he can, but will be ready to call some of the alums for $$(like Oline  ;)) once they finalize the development plan (Bubble to start with for sure ).

Rumor has it that the bubble will be installed by November...With the move that Cragg has made to the development office, I expect plenty of phone calls to football alums, parents, etc.  Very excited for this next chapter in Hobart Football!!!

Not really surprising. These are 2 good additions from the Endicott staff.  DeWall is doing what he thinks best and we will see how it finally shakes out. I am still not sure there is an experienced OC in the mix, unless he feels Garvey or Green can assume the role under his guidance. Decision needed on DC as Backhaus has been DC for a year and also Kevin's ex teammate.
