Interesting result from the QB competition at Hobart. While Tru Styles(Jr QB) has been named Co-Captain, Aidan Conrath(SO) has been named starting QB for Week 1 based on an intense competition in camp. Aidan played for Gonzaga High School(Washington DC) and followed Caleb Williams(current Chicago NFL) as the team's starting QB.He seems to have had an incredible Jr year at Gonzaga, but was injured for much of his Senior year, which might have kept him off of serious D1 consideration. In any case, if Aidan performs, it looks like Hobart has some real depth at QB.

I'm not thinking a personal website is the way to go. Watched his Hudl tape and he is talented, but Coach DeWall has said he is giving both Conrath and Tru Styles snaps tonight. The receivers need to create space in order for the QBs to shine. We'll see , Alfred got up for the game last year and we squeaked by 10-7.Pep will no doubt be giving serious band support to add to the Saxon spirit, and that Saxon battle horse can be intimidating

Alfred up 28-10 by playing tough defense and disciplined offense. Hobart defense has a lot of work to do, Linebackers are way behind last year's group. Hobart is not what people thought they were pre-season, OR Alfred is a big player this season in the E8. Aidan Conrath has a good arm , but a pick six and a blind side hit/fumble were extremely costly turnovers. It's up to Tru Styles to pull it out by scoring 3 TDs for the win.Not likely.

Happy with SLU's performance tonight.  Lederman looked really poised under center. Couple sacks hurt his net gain on rushing yards but he had a couple really big runs in combination with a few extremely clutch deep ball completions on 3rd down.  Defense started out with an 11 minute drive but held them to a field goal and completely dominated the LOS the rest of the game.  Notched a safety and shut everything down in the defensive backfield.  First opening night win since 2016 so definitely a better start than what we've become accustomed to in recent years.

Congrats to Alfred on a 28-23 win. Kelly, Alfred QB, is a tough kid and the Alfred Lines are BIG BOYS. Hobart has a lot of work to do this week to prepare for Brockport. Right now, an 0-2 start is staring them in the face after seeing Brockport manhandle Buff State.

Hobart thoughts:

E.J Taylor had 100 yards and 3 scores...but honestly, it was kinda a bad game for him (which is saying something about how good he is). Something like half his yards came at the end of the first half, when it seemed like Hobart was content to go to the locker room but Alfred kept calling timeouts. Seemed like Alfred was able to key on him, and the Statesmen still haven't developed a passing game that can make people pay.

But look...they probably would have lost to Alfred last year had it not been for a muffed punt. And they won the LL anyway. So they took a loss here, and yeah, I don't really like their chances next week either. But we're hitting the reset button come Week 4, so maybe they'll be okay. And maybe Alfred beats Ithaca next week and they're just better than we thought.

St. Lawrence got a rockfight defensive win over Norwich, and picking up an OOC victory is always good.

Hobart should not panic but learn from this loss and beat Brockport next week. The first 3 runs were stuffed by Alfred as the Hobart Oline adjusted to losing their starting Center to injury, but as the game went on they found their footing especially on the last 2 TD drives. The defense is still developing the LB corp which is critical going forward. Conrath at QB showed he has an arm but the receivers need to get on the same page.I noticed DeWall stuck with Conrath even after the pick six, showing that he has confidence in his future, but Tru Styles brings a level of calm to the team. It will be interesting to see how the QB utilization works out this season.Winning another LL title is all that matters, so learn and move on.
