I will change my username to anything Bartman wants (within the bounds of good taste) if Hobart puts up 38 points on Brockport

My mind is just swirling with thoughts of your new Username . ;D Of course, as an admitted cowardly faceless Bartman, I do not return the offer should Hobart fall short. 8-)

I'm going to point out that since you didn't put OT, it has to be done in regulation. None of these cheapo college high scoring games that enter OT 17-17 and leave it 35-33

Fellas help me out here:

My daughter, who is eight, just started Girls' flag football like a month ago. We just got an email from her coach that said:

"It's time to introduce the first 8 plays of the playbook.  Please see attached and share them with your kiddos.  If you can print them and they can familiarize themselves with the basics, even better.  We will start drilling these on Tuesday and run them in the scrimmages. These plays are all in our base formation that we have been teaching. The left or right side refers to what side the running back is on.  The numbers are the hole the running back will run through on running plays.

For Example:
Base Left, Z4 sweep

Routes used by the wide receivers are the routes we have been training on since the beginning.  You can use the following links to better understand the route tree.  It is basically just a diagram of all the main routes wide receivers use.  All receivers (this includes lineman) will be expected to know all the routes.

Is this in line with the ages this stuff should be getting introduced? They just started this girls' flag team this year, and my very initial reaction was that memorizing playbooks and route trees for 8-year olds is a lot, especially if it's not stage 1 of "Well, if you're going to play varsity tackle some day..."

But obviously, I never played football, so I could be way off base

I'm not a youth coach, but it seems like good basic route instructions. That said, when I played touch football on the playground at 8 years old we only had three patterns, Go long,Button hook, and run around until you're open.Hope your daughter has fun. I know the AD at HWS is looking into Flag Football for women...might be looking for recruits for the class of 2039?

First, I think it's awesome your daughter is playing flag football! I wish her a safe and fun season!

Second, if you're asking, I think this is out of control for an 8 year old playing her first season. While it's very cool stuff and great info to know, personally, I would leave it up to my kid if they wanted to learn that stuff on their own or if they wanted me to help them learn it. I would put zero pressure on them, zero. To me, as a coach of a varsity sport, who loves when kids come to me with game IQ and experience, I still think this is ridiculous. IMHO, if the coach wants the kids to know this, he should teach them in practice and only "suggest" that the kiddos go over the info on their own. Personally, from this info only, the coach sounds like an absolute tool. I would be very weary/careful of any coach at this age expecting players to know all of that information outside of practice. I've honestly never heard of this at this age, especially for kids playing for the first time. What a way to take the fun out of it early on.

Best of luck and this is only one person's opinion.

I'm too old to have played flag football competitively, but I started playing full tackle football age 8, and this is not that far off of the kind of stuff I remember. The information was presented a little less digitally in 1991, but the playbook contained a more dumbed down route tree in it (because we'd throw like 8 passes a game - it was 1991 after all). So my thought is to say...yes-ish.

But it could be more that the rules of flag football necessitates much more passing than running, and so this is really the core everything else builds on.

I was somewhat pleased by Union's performance this weekend, especially if Sus is really the 4th best team in the league. That QB of theirs is a monster. This is a young and inexperienced Union D. I was honestly expecting a real monkey stomp.

I like Union's transfer back, I think the line will be a real weakness this season (I hope I am wrong here), and I thought a couple receivers showed some real athleticism and promise. I also thought Patch looked pretty decent. Overall Union, to me, looked like they belonged on the field even thought they are not on Sus's level overall. I see some positives.

I was quite surprised by the pumpkinheads loss but, my father watched the game and said he thought the team just wasn't really in sync until the end (first game jitters/struggles/etc) where they seemed to be the better team. Alfred, while having admittedly struggled the last couple of years is traditionally a solid program gets some really good players. I'm guessing they are making their way back into the mix after rebuilding the past few years.I am happy with RPI's W and feel this week will maybe give us a better idea about the Bombers. Hopkins has just been playing on such an incredibly high level for quite some time now. Unless you are a top tier program, IMHO, you won't compete with them. IC is always good, maybe this will just be a tough year for them. We'll know more after this weekend.

I am also very happy for Rochester and SLU. I love having Rochester be competitive. I think they are back to a point where they can certainly compete with the usual LL top four. SLU needs to beat Norwich every year period to even have a chance to compete in the top half of the LL. They did their job.

Wishing you all a great week and hoping all of you, and your families are well.

btw, no matter what, my message to my kid would be to do whatever the coach asks you to if you want to be a part of that team period. If the experience turned out to not fit my kid I'd just go a different direction when the season was done.
