I like how the IC guy is like "I think I'd have Union ahead of IC" and the Union guy is like "I'm not gonna be convinced Union should be ahead of IC until they beat them"

We are many things on this board, but we're not, in terms of talking about the quality of our teams, blatant homers

IC798891

No idea, though if it comes down to a common opponent result, Ithaca would have the chance to get the upper hand on Union with a Cortaca win (not looking great with the way IC's offense is going, but the possibility is there)

I would think an SOS tiebreaker would also favor Ithaca unless Cortland loses to both Brockport and Utica because the Bombers have Hopkins

Hobart has lost a couple of players in the last 2 years to FCS schools Our two best players are EJ Taylor(RB) and Johnny Harding(WR),both are very capable and could play at the next level.I hope they see that next year could be special when everyone is in better health and the "youngins" that got experience this year will show in the team next year. I know there is talent on this team , it just never got pulled together for many reasons. Hobart Athletic's culture competes for Championships in all sports and that will return to the Football team next year, no doubt. The task now is to win the rest of the games , finish 5-5 and find out as much about the talent that can be developed for next year.

A search of Clarkson University football history will take you to a site that lists all the results of their days of varsity football from 1930 through 1951 when, apparently, the program was terminated. They played Ithaca a few times in those years.

1951 was 74 years ago and you would had to have been at least 18 to be at Ithaca. Is ICGrad at least 92 years old???

Definitely not that old. I was there in the mid-80s.

Ithaca gets 8 votes in this week's poll. No love for RPI yet, as that Utica loss looks worse than the loss by Ithaca to JHU. No one is following the LL this year except it's fans. D3Football is not showing any love despite having one of the most active boards on this site .

I have found that D3 football in general is more enjoyable to follow if I just focus on what's happening in NY and the northeast - the things that make trying to rank D3 teams nationally an objectively silly exercise (the small number of data points, the lack of any real national crossover play, the heavy year-to-year changes at each program) are exactly the same things that make regional competition and focus so cool.  We can have a fun, thoughtful debate about who the best team in NY is, and the answer to that question is something that we would all agree does and should matters - for pride, for recruiting, etc.  But a debate as to whether Ithaca is better or worse than Linfield?  Who cares.  Impossible to tell, nothing at stake - unless and until they meet in a playoff matchup, in which case that question is actually settled on the field.

But of course, I'm a regional play guy - I have said for a while now that we'd be better off if we went to regional seedings and brackets for the tournament.

All of which reminds me - does anyone else remember when the NY SIDS has a little consortium that kept stats for the state and had a weekly poll for all of NY?  That's a poll I would find interesting and useful, if they ever resurrected it.

And a final question, while I'm at it - for fans of other LL schools, how is your local press coverage of the program? I am also impressed that Schenectady's Daily Gazette covers Union football well - a preseason story, Friday previews and Saturday evening game stories, etc.  And the local TV stations tend to cover and tape footage at Union's home games. Do other programs have that with their local paper/TV?

Ice Bear

Why don't we do our own NYS Poll here on the LLPP? I would enjoy that especially with all the respect I have for Bartman, IC, Palooza, Tony, and on and on.

I'm in!

I haven't lived in Ithaca for decades, but looking at the online coverage in the Ithaca Journal, there appears to be little coverage of Ithaca or Cornell in the local paper.

I'm not surprised; the Journal is former Gannett paper, and those, especially the ones in smaller markets, have been absolutely gutted since Gannett was bought out about a decade ago. A number of former Gannett papers here in Indiana are mere shells of their former selves; only the Indianapolis Star seems to still be doing ok, but all of the smaller market papers offer the bare minimum of local coverage.

Cornell has The Daily Sun, which does a pretty good job of covering their sports; not sure if the IC student paper is as robust.

SLU football gets occasional coverage on local news.  They usually cover a lot of training camp on site and sometimes a game, more so when they're winning.  Chris Engel does the play by play for live stream/radio and he does basically all of the local sports so technically there's some coverage there.  It's mostly hockey coverage for college sports though.

I think it was the Hobart SID who did that on his own.  It had all of upstate NY involved (including Hamilton) and had individual and player stats.  He would send it out to all the schools.  I remember Ithaca had it posted on the wall in the coaches hallway in Cerrache.

The Finger Lakes Times does a nice job covering Hobart Football, Lacrosse and Hockey as well as WS soccer and once in a while other sports.
I don't think our SID has the time to keep up with NYS Football stats since we expanded into about a million new sports, but I know he did compile the stats for a few years.
I always like Ice Bear's ideas , so if there is interest in a poll I'd participate, but not looking to administrate.
Preparing for SLU now, hoping the tide will turn, taking nothing for granted.

BTW, Hobart has not had a losing season in 30 years when they went 4-6(and one win was a NCAA forfeit with SJF, so really 3-7).Then, the next season we went 5-5 which was our last "non-winning" season. The team is in unfamiliar waters this year, especially after being picked to win the LL.
