Wait, how do all those classically trained Music majors do the pep band thing? Love it, I hope Alfred brings their Pep Band and you have battling bands at half time. I grew up going to a bunch of Ivy football games and the halftimes were awesome with a themed halftime with both bands,  topics narrated by the announcer, mostly tongue in cheek stuff.....except for Cornell that had a straight up boring marching band. Bring all the bands back!.

This is all awesome.  I could never understand why a college with a great music school didn't have a pep band. Will be a major plus for atmosphere.

This is great , football is more than just about the athletes on the field , it is about a community celebrating what has become an awesome cultural experience and music can be a big part of that experience. I'm jealous of colleges that have active bands, although one of the best parts of a Hobart win is the whole team gathering in a circle after the coach's remarks, raising their helmets  and singing the Alma mater, ending with...."raise the Orange and Purple high, let us shame them never, shout the Triumph to the sky...HIP HOBART FOREVER !

I enjoy the E8/LL matchups and hope the LL surprises and goes over 500.

I think Union gets beaten soundly tomorrow. I really like their D but I think they will need to carry the load once again this week and they will struggle to play as well as they did last week (and I thought they played VERY well last week). 

I see our offense having another tough week. They will make a play here and there, but for another week this young offense will fail to carve out an identity. I believe they will have a hard time sustaining drives, and struggle to pass the ball effectively. I'm not trying to knock the U as I do believe they are a decent team and will compete this season. I just don't think they have enough to beat Cortland. Please prove me wrong Union.

I just can't do another year of this SLU coaching. We've been patient for a long time, simply fed up with the nonsense now. This is a well funded program with lots of resources and it gets squandered year after year.  There is no reason why a d3 football staff cannot scheme defensive adjustments to prevent getting beat the by same basic play for 4 quarters. I just watched their opponent run a curl route to the slot for a 1st down on the same side of the field 20 times with SLU defensive backs playing 10 yards off the LOS every single one of these snaps. 

Just horrendous. We don't expect much as is, but this has reached an untenable situation. Unfortunately, it's a helpless situation as the administrations thinks that spending on facilities is all that matters.  Who cares that money gets lit on fire every year between football and hockey, all that matters is the updated facilities apparently.

Yes, SLU sports has a big gap between funding support and performance. I loved the old Saints Football teams that challenged for the LL Championship. Is it as simple as you need a new AD? SLU is a wonderful college oasis in the North Country and should be doing better, no doubt.

St. Lawrence has felt, for the longest time, like the football equivalent of an NPC in a video game that you interact with once, like a random villager.

The last six years, no better than 5-5, no worse than 3-7. They're not contenders, or bottom feeders. But they also don't even have like, a Daniel Papantonis to be a decent watch most week. They're just kinda there.

What I'm interested in this weekend:

Hobart-Brockport -- Brockport is a stronger team than Alfred, in recent history, so I think they might win this one, but I'm wrong about Brockport 99% of the time and also 100% annoyed that they just never take the next step. Stop running stupid reverses, Hobart.

Cortland-Union -- How will Union mentally respond to their loss last week? Is their offense going to struggle against Cortland? The Red Dragons won impressively in Week 1, but they allowed 17 points and 271 yards on four second half drives.

Ithaca-Alfred -- Was IC's second half against Hopkins a sign of what that offense can do, or a sign that Hopkins let their foot off the gas too soon? Matthew Parker looked good for the Saxons, but getting sacked 7 times ain't it.

Utica-RPI. Look, Washington and Jefferson has been good since the dawn of time. So seeing that Utica took them down the way they did doesn't bode well for RPI, who wasn't challenged by a typically overmatched WPI

SLU has a new AD, in his 2nd year. Other sports are doing well like women's hockey and men's lacrosse, but the heavily funded sports with the most resources in football and men's hockey are are just not cutting it and it needs to change.

Down 31-0 to Hartwick and it's not even halftime.  LL has two of the absolute worse teams in the country in Buff State and Hilbert, and neither makes any sense at all as a member of the league.

Union down 3-0 after intercepting a Cortland pass inside the 30 with 40 some seconds left...until Union takes yet another penalty...this time a roughing the passer/personal foul penalty resulting in a Cortland first down. On the next play, Cortland scores and goes up 10-0. Absolutely inexcusable penalties this half, especially that one.

I think Union is playing very well, and I love seeing the Soph Sheenen behind center. He is not as good of a runner as Bisson but the kid can really throw and seems to have a big upside in that department.

Let's see how the second half shakes out. Cortland is a solid football team. Loaded with athletes.

Union doesn't take many penalties, but the ones they take are just the dumbest, most costly ones.

Down 3-0, they had a 3rd and 10 at the Cortland 14, and back to back penalties knock them out of FG range and force a turnover on downs. Then the roughing call wipes out a pick puts 7 on the board for Cortland. They also took a 15 yard personal foul that resulted in an ejection.

Could have been 3-3 at the half, instead they were down 10.

And honestly, with this Union offense, down 10 feels like down 30. I know Susquehanna and Cortland are good teams. But Union's played two home games so far and scored 10 points on offense. They had 129 yards today -- just 2.4 per play.

The defense is really tough. Cortland didn't look comfortable on offense at all. I suspect Union is going to be in a lot of 17-14 type games this year.

Re: Buff State, I was stunned at how easily Hartwick moved the ball. This isn't the Boltus era Hawks. This was a team that got shutout until garbage time against Misericordia. And they just had guys open all day down the field. Honestly, Brockport's offense is currently laying an egg against Hobart (four turnovers, just 14 points) so that makes me feel way worse about Week 1 from them.

I guess, if you're a non-Buff State fan, it might be fun if Hilbert get a win
