I do agree with Hurley that Rica's numbers would not be near as impressive in an offensive system where he isn't throwing the ball 80% of the time.  Yes, he is a good player and quarterback.  There is no doubt in that. But it's the offense which helps him seem so impressive.  The best way to describe him would be  that he FITS the system, he doesn't MAKE it.

I'd have to say...plug any other QB from around the ODAC into Ricca's shoes at HSC, and see if they can pull off those kind of numbers and put HSC in the position to win so often.  My guess... wouldn't happen.

While I understand the skepticism after years of mediocrity, I do think W and L is on the right track as far as improvements. Alfred won 8 games last year and won their conference, and while I wasn't there for this year's game, I heard the dogs were called off in the 4th, which made the score a lot closer than the game.

Also, 1st Team All-ODAC receiver Colton Ward has yet to have a breakout game this year, as he's been receiving a lot of attention from opposing defenses. When he gets back in the flow there may actually be another "game that matters." 

Forma80:  You're right!  W&L has put up some good games in the last few years.  I wasn't trying to beat them down too much.  I have been at the last 4 contests between W&L and especially in Lexington you all seem to play us (BC) real tough.  That double overtime win a couple years ago was a fantastic game!  As well as a fun tailgate!  You guys are good hosts.  Let's just hope we both go undefeated in the ODAC heading into that game which would make it quite the contest.  Good Luck until we meet!!

There is no doubt Ricca is a good quarterback.  He runs the system well and they win with him doing that.  He would probably start at many college across the country.  I was simply giving my opinion on the types of numbers he is capable of putting up. 

Is this the year those numbers FINALLY win the ODAC?

oh, and by the way, W&J's QB opened the game against Allegheny w/ 21 straight completions (NCAA record)... his QB coach: Brandon Wakefield. that's pretty damn impressive

I figured that Outsider's post was incorrect  because Wakefield wasn't that good of a quarterback himself.  He definately couldn't have had a hand in helping Edwards.  That guy is a beast and a senior.  His developing was done way before Wakefield arrived.  Besides it's hard to take advice from someone that you beat as a player, especially when he doesn't deserve to be on the same field.

Wakefield is such a horrible QB that he led his team to the playoffs in the two years he started.  Won 2 ODAC titles as a starting QB and did more than ANY E&H QB has ever done in the NCAA playoffs. Played in a Pro leauge in Europe.   You're right, he was horrible...

Didn't mean to seem like I was jumping on anybody.  Hyperbole just isn't my suit.

Sirianni works with the QBs, and Wakefield as well some.  But just didn't want to leave the impression out there that Edwards became a great qb with Wakefield's arrival, especially given the fact that Edwards' previous career highs in completions and yards were AGAINST Wakefield in the playoffs a year ago.

Please don't read this as anti-Wakefield, or anti-Bridgewater, or anti-ODAC or anything of the sort.  Just a note for the sake of accuracy, that's all.

Haha, this Wakefield-Edwards talk is pretty funny (more so sad).  Looks like wrighthall220 beat me to the punch.  I was going to say something similar.  I'll even add that Wakefield has gotten further than Chris Edwards has in the playoffs.  And there was no "Edwards beating Wakefield" last year.  Washington & Jefferson beat Bridgewater.

Outsider and Mr. Gregg are correct.  Wakefield was brought to W&J to help coach the QBs and WRs ... but is officially listed (and is paid for) as being the WR coach.

Outsider has the best and most accurate BC insider (how ironic) information ... while Mr. Gregg is "the voice" of the Presidents', so he sure knows his Washington, Pennsylvania stuff.

Who cares if Wakefield helped or not , there won't be any career days this Saturday by a President.  That "Black Hole" defense, or whatever it was called, is gonna want to go crawl into a hole after this weekend.
