AFAIK you don't need a waiver, the game is just ignored as far as the NCAA is concerned and isn't included in NPI calculations (same as if you play an NAIA or an out-of-D3 school).

Schreiner being non-varsity can basically do whatever they want.  When Centenary had their NV year they played something like 12 "games" and if memory serves actually originally had more scheduled that fell through for whatever reasons.

Centenary actually released a 13 game schedule for their first varsity season. They included their scrimmage against Millsaps, and listed two "games" against non-countable opponents Westgate Christian and the even more laughable "Transformation With Athletics." I believe neither of the non-countable games happened, which is good for several reasons, among them the fact that it would have been a violation of DIII bylaws to play that many contests.

The final NACDA Directors Cup standings are out.  Among SCAC schools:

22. Trinity 636
76. Colorado College 264
86. McMurry 226.25
112. Texas Lutheran 173
129. St. Thomas 149
T239. Concordia 50
T267. Schreiner 40
T287. Ozarks 26
T323. Southwestern 5

That's about as well as the conference has done, especially in number of teams ranked, in a number of years.

For Trinity, without winning a championship it is very hard to break into that top 20, where many schools get points for sports they don't sponsor (lacrosse, rowing, men's VB, fencing, ice hockey, men's wrestling, field hockey).  Not all schools in the top 20 have even most of those - doubt any has all of them - and you can only score in 18 sports of which 4 must be M/W basketball and soccer.  But having more opportunities overall means more chances to maximize points and to eliminate those zero-point sports.  I would like to see NACDA do what the SCAC did for their President's Trophy and award more points to sports with more competitors instead of small sports like women's rowing or men's VB getting the same number of points for champions as do women's volleyball or m/w soccer.

And that, at last, marks the end of Trinity's time in the SCAC.  It's been a good run, and now they have to see if they can have similar success in the SAA despite the additional travel they (and Southwestern) signed up for.

They do, though not to champions, and probably not to the extent you want.

5th place in women's rowing earned Ithaca 55 points. 5th place in softball earned Rowan 78. There's differences in a variety of sports, usually starting at 5th place.

One thing they could do, that Ithaca College's old conference did for their conference-wide trophy, is base it off of a percentage of possible points earned.

So, if you sponsor let's say, enough to hit the max in both sports, your total would be X/1,800, but if you only sponsor six of each, it would be x/1,200.

I'd kind of prefer having both. Award one for most overall points, and one for best percentage.

Unfortunate news today as Cory Hogue announced that Dave Campbell's Texas Football cut him (and one other writer, Ishmael Johnson), effective immediately.  He was one of the few (possibly only) Texas-based sources for D3 and other non-FBS sports info in the state.
