Cortland returns to NCAA tourney with Friday/Saturday first and second round play at York PA. RDragons draw 24-1 NYU at 4:50 Friday!! York (21-6) plays John Carroll OH (22-5)

NYU Violets of the University AA lost only to Emory GA in mid-January. Mutual foe with Cortland is Rochester. SCSt coach Mo Kearney an NYU ass't coach in '22-23 prior to taking Dragon reins. Kearney former Cortland player and ass't coach. Played on '15 conference title team, the last Cortland SUNYAC men's hoop champs.

Cortland men and women each score just 14 first half points in respective NCAA tourney openers on Friday ......RDragon men fall 72-36 to NYU at York PA while CSt women rally to defeat Endicott MA 48-46 at Bowdoin ME.

  Cortland men overwhelmed by arguably the nation's best D3 outfit. UVirginia grad student transfer T. How leads winning Violets with 16pts (7x8fg, 1x1 3s, 11reb, 26') -- his season's average, California grad student transfer B. Susko 16pts (6x12fg, 4x7 3s, 6reb). Bigger NYU badly handles Corts inside. A. Coston 12 pts and J. Wommack 9pts (4x8fg, 16'). Wommack the lone departing player. Dragons minus J. Davis. Shoot just 6x25fg in first half, trailing 40-14.
   Cortland 17-12, NYU 25-1

   Cortland women bounce back from 22-14 first half hole. Finally take 37-36 lead on K. Campbell score at 3:55 left. Campbell driving layup at 0:22 makes it 45-41 and B. Tillotson two FTs at 0:08 hike margin to 48-43. Cortland plays Saturday night.

Cortland juniors Kendall Arcuri and Aaaon Coston land more honorss ....Arcuri makes D3 media All-Region 3 first team and coaches (ABCA) All-District 3 second team along with Coston.

RDragons NCAA tourney conqueror NYU in tonight's Final Four semis in Fort Wayne IN. Top ranked Violets (28-1) vs. St. Louis MO's Washington U. (23-6) in match of UAA foes after Trinity CT (28-3) vs. Wesleyan CT (30-1) in duel of NESCAC affiliates.

We just hosted Oswego State coach Jason Leone for a practice with our high school boys.  He showed them a little bit of what a college practice is like and talked to them about what he looks for in a player. (Team first, work ethic, positive attitude) He put them through drills and took time to show them why they were doing the drills.  Really good stuff. The boys had a blast !

A great basketball mind that can effortlessly connect with people. Very easy to see how he's built that program at Oswego.

We just hosted Oswego State coach Jason Leone for a practice with our high school boys.  He showed them a little bit of what a college practice is like and talked to them about what he looks for in a player. (Team first, work ethic, positive attitude) He put them through drills and took time to show them why they were doing the drills.  Really good stuff. The boys had a blast !

A great basketball mind that can effortlessly connect with people. Very easy to see how he's built that program at Oswego.

His Cut Down the Nets satellite camp like this has definitely netted him some of his best players over the years.  It was a wise investment of time and resources when he first got the job.  His on court persona is way different than his off the court one though lol.  Very intense, and at some times seems over the top but he's one of those coaches that still gets the respect of his players when he's heated which is a pretty positive showcase of his coaching philosophy.

He told the boys at the start of the practice that when he's interviewing a recruit and the kid asks "are you going to keep recruiting for my spot?" he knows that's a young man that's not a fit even though he understands and respects the question.
What I really liked was he gives all the returning players drills and areas to work on in the summer and then checks that in the fall to see who did the work that was assigned, so they never get complacent.

I've heard him say in interviews that he prefers 4 year high school players.  He's got a few transfers post covid but they haven't really worked out.  He's basically picked up the Tom Curle mantle in terms of the SUNYAC team getting the best recruits.  But yea, during the game it's a whole different coaching style lol.  I've seen the folks at the scoring table look over at him like he's deranged, but the players seem to be fine with it.
