Quote from: nescac1 on May 20, 2025, 03:43:25 PMJust saw posted that Vassar's coach is going to be the choice for CMU.  A very good hire and if he could convince all-American Shea Fitzgerald to join him, it would certainly make things a lot more interesting for them the next two years ...

Unfortunate for Vassar.  Turned their program around and established a winning culture, had almost the whole team back for next year.  But he's a UAA alum so it makes sense.

Hoopdirt is reporting that NYU has hired Waleed Farid from Ithaca and that Carnegie Mellon's top choice changed his mind.

I didn't see that coming. A pretty good coach but he's going to have to adjust to the UAA physical play style.  His act at Ithaca got really old really quick complaining about something every single time up and down the court.

NYU gets a (low) D1 transfer, Carnegie Johnson from Navy.  If the new coach can get a few more transfers perhaps he can rebuild (not to a title level team, but competitive) in a hurry ...

The UAA has decided to go with the Flo for the next 5 years.   On June 20, the UAA announced an exclusive 5 year deal to have all of their teams exclusively streamed on FloSports.   Which means that I will have to buy FloCollege as a necessary streaming package for at least the fall soccer and winter basketball seasons.

If there is one silver lining to this, it will be that I can finally watch all Brandeis home games on my Roku TV again provided that I pay the FloCollege subscription fees.

It's a disgrace this conference along with a few others has chosen this route.
In the long term will hurt their viewership. I watched a ton of UAA games in the past, won't be doing that going forward.
Will piss off parents that are paying for their kids to go to a school and now have to pay to watch.
The conference leaders just don't get it. Small money grab.

FYI -- in case you aren't aware. An active discussion of the whole FloSports/D3 matter is taking place in "General/General Division III issues/Re: Flo Sports" at the top of the boards.

The days of free streaming are ending across the college landscape. Equipment and labor costs for schools are significant and this is how they will offset those costs. It stinks for the fans, but it's a financial reality that the athletic departments are trying to deal with.
