Really? They are just across the river from Evansville, so it may be an OK HCAC fit.

Given the school's small size and limited resources, D3 may be a better fit for Kentucky Wesleyan than D2 -- especially since, as smed notes, membership in the HCAC would appear to be a strong possibility.

However, I would be perturbed if a school moved into D3 that has more national championships in men's basketball than does North Park. ;)

Oh, get a grip, Greg - they have ZERO d3 titles! ;D

Or do we get a bidding war between the SLIAC, with Spalding as a travel partner, and the HCAC?

Are KWC and the HCAC compatible with the mission and vision stuff for ?

I have no direct contact with any of the schools involved in this, but I would guess -- given KWC's basketball tradition and the travel-distance issue being a key reason why that school is contemplating a move out of the GLVC and D2 into D3 -- that the HCAC would be KWC's first preference in a D3 league, with the SLIAC as a fallback in case the HCAC wouldn't want KenWes as a member. The HCAC's a pretty decent league, and it has some members that have solid basketball legacies. Alas, the SLIAC is the crumbs-under-the-table league of the region.

KWC seems to fit the general profile of an HCAC school, as far as I can tell. Granted, I haven't looked at it too closely.

KWC video

Depending on the discount rate of your stated tuition versus the amount of academic and need based scholarships that you will give under D-III rules, KWC might almost be a revenue neutral.

Keeping fans' financial support for basketball would be critical is the funding issues.

$3Million is paltry among the successful D-II's.  No wonder that KWC wants to reconsider.  They probably find that they can be underfunded in D-II and very well funded in D-III.

The only HCAC sports that KWC does not offer are M&W T&F and Men's Tennis.

On at least one website where Great Lakes Valley Conference Basketball and other NCAA DII sports are discussed the shock and horror that some are feeling about a potential move by Kentucky Wesleyan to NCAA DIII is shall we say quite "interesting".
The posts by some on the board stating that moving to NCAA DIII might as well be the death knell for the entire school seems to me to be a very narrow minded view.

I didn't post the link to that site because I wasn't sure what the rules were about linking to other message boards.

Sadly, this ignorant attitude (the one about people thinking D3 is going to somehow harm the school) is more the norm than the exception.  You see it everytime a school contemplates moving to D3, e.g. recent moves by Birmingham-Southern and Centenary from D1 to D3, UNO's recent flirtation with D3.

The fact that D3 allows a school to focus on what should be its primary purpose, education, and that a college will actually end up drawing more students who want a place to play, thus bringing in more money overall, are usually overlooked in the sturm und drang associated with the termination of scholarship athletics.
