Quote from: jumpshot on September 27, 2025, 04:43:32 PMYes, Bates shocks amherst 3-0 today after 19 consecutive losses to the lord jeffs. Bobcats not intimidated at all by the usual bullying, rough play by the jeffs. A joyous ride by the Maine ....

Popping in to give some props to Noah Riskind for Bates' resurgence.  The current coaching staff obviously deserves credit for setting the team up to win, but his fingerprints are all over the current players and some of the top contributors. He was a hard worker on the recruiting trail while at Bates.

that's a great call out and can attest to how much he was working the circuit.....

Quote from: Hotskull on September 27, 2025, 05:09:13 PM3-0... At Home...on the day of their "Pride game"...Terrible day to be a Mammoth! One of the worst results I have seen in my last 6 years following the NESCAC. This might cancel out last year's National Championship!

Actually, it doesn't, but good try...

Camelparent

The bates result has to be the most unexpected thing I have heard in a very long time. The crowd in Conn was shocked hearing the result.

For the Camels this could be a huge point in the season. Going back to a formation  we had last season it was much more impressive performance from the camels

The first half was a 60/40 slightly leaning in middelburys favor but the second half was all Conn out shooting mid 12-6. They hit the crossbar and had a couple 1 on 1s before a corner finally broke the deadloke one with 5 mins to go

Also while the field is terrible the atmosphere and amount of people that show out to the game is unparalleled in d3 soccer, with at least 80-100 people running to the corner to celebrate the goal. With trinity and hamilton next Conn have a great opportunity to turn their season around in a conference where Williams seams to be the only team really to be on the top of their game.

Camelparent

middelbury will be an interesting watch tomorrow with their only win coming against Trinity in conference so far, witch was only 1-0. With all the 5th years and seniors graduating it seems the nescac is now a much weaker conference.

Barnburner in progress between Bowdoin and Williams.  Bowdoin went up 2-0 on a brace by Tyler Houck, one in the 11th minute and a second in the 54th minute.  Williams has now scored two - in the 65th and 79th - to tie the game up with about 6 minutes and change left in the game.

UPDATE:  Williams 3 - Bowdoin 2

Williams' Alex Bethencourt (of Mira Costa HS in Southern California) scores the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute.

UPDATE:  Williams 3 - Bowdoin 3

Holy cow!  A goalfest.  Tyler Houck completes the hat trick in the 89th minute to bring Bowdoin back to level

FINAL:  Williams 3 - Bowdoin 3

Crazy, fun, game

nescac1

Sounds like an absolutely crazy game!  Both teams will be happy at least getting a result, and the Ephs remain the last NESCAC unbeaten.  Crazy fact - Bowdoin has scored five goals against Williams the last four years, all of them by Tyler Huck.  The Ephs will be delighted to see him graduate.

Of concern for Williams is star FY defender Zach Greer, who has been a rock in back all season, missed this game after coming out at the end against Colby. Not sure what the story is.  Top defensive sub Atticus Ross has also missed the last few games. Hopefully the Ephs heal up a bit on the backline over the next week.

Noah Riskind gave my son his first offer a couple of years ago, he seemed like a great, albeit young coach. Son was a sophomore at the time, now a senior. Coach Brewster and Houghton offered him as well but he ended up committing elsewhere because Bates didn't have what he wanted to study. But all of our experiences with Bates, Riskind and the new coaches were great, it was tough turning them down.

Tough weekend for Middlebury.  They need to find a way to get the offense going.

Wes had quite a road trip this weekend ...

Amherst 1 Colby 0

After the previous day's loss to the Bobcats, it was with a sense of trepidation that I switched things on to find out how things were going at the Billiard Table That Is Hitchcock Field.  There's no denying the sense of relief at seeing the Mammoths up 1-0 and I suspect the early goal from the prolific AA Junior would have calmed some nerves.  I got to watch a fair bit of the second half and saw the game swing from Colby to Amherst and then back to the Mules towards the end.  I observed one fierce Colby shot blocked quite late, but a desperate Amherst block ensured that the game's outcome wasn't impacted.

The result meant that the Mammoths are equal second on eight points at the half way mark in NESCAC.  The draw against Williams is looking a pretty good result given their subsequent form and with current equal second Wesleyan and Tufts next on Amherst's conference dance card, it appears that the first half of October will be a revealing time.  Right now, I would suggest Amherst has probably over-achieved on expectations given the youthful roster.  I observed that of the nineteen players who saw game time today, that twelve of them were underclassmen, which for the programme's future, is outstanding, but which does make it a little challenging in the immediate one.  In 2024 a much more battle hardened Purple shirted group managed 1-0 results against Bates and Colby and for those who came in late, eventually won the National Title, so perhaps this weekend's effort by a less experienced one is better than it looks.

Irrespective, whoever takes the field is expected to give maximum effort and I saw enough of that today to encourage me for what lies ahead.

Foul Count: Amherst 14 Colby 12

Midd coach making strange moves to bolster offense, including benching leading goalie in the NESCAC thus far.  team is 0-2-1 since benching.  Truly befuddling.

4:18 PM ET update-- The aforementioned NPI report which had been published earlier today was taken off the NCAA Statistics website this afternoon.  It is unclear at this time whether or not the report will be republished this week, or whether or not we will have to wait until after Sunday, October 5, 2025, for a new report to come out.  Sorry about that.
