Logan Hansen's (of HansenRatings fame) predictions with SAA conference play starting this week (scores rounded to nearest point):

Rhodes 10 @Berry 49 - Berry 99% chance of win
Millsaps 23 @Centre 29 - Centre 66% chance of win
Maryville 33 @Sewanee 15 - M'ville 88% chance of win
Southwestern 13 @Trinity 41 - Trinity 96% chance of win

I don't know if SW@TU is a trap game, but the two schools are natural rivals given proximity and history, and the Pirates will want to atone for the last two years where they lost by a combined score of 97-7.

Gentlemen (and ladies if present/reading): I'm making a return to the boards since COVID hit. I used to post under Scots13, but couldn't recover my login. So, here I am under this handle.

Thank God for Ben Fox and the new(ish) administration headed by President Bryan Coker and AD Andrew Wu. I expect big things in the near future. I live in Virginia and the USA South schedule was better for me, but glad to be in the SAA. Getting old rivals back on the annual schedule is good to see.

Maryville needs to clean up the penalties. If we can, we'll be in the mix rolling into the last two weeks against Berry and Trinity

Greensboro nearly screwed us taking a paid game against Davidson in May. Had to schedule a regional NAIA school that team had a game loss after a school dropped their football program. Glad we beat UPike yesterday in a thriller. NAIA allows for 24 scholarships and they have a lot of TN and KY players from schools Fox & Co. recruit. 0-4 is not good, but 2 losses were to ranked teams and one on the cusp of the top 25.

In other news, yesterday's win was the 325th at home all time. *If* we can win out we'll finally be a .500 program all time. Early years playing Tennessee and Kentucky 40 or so times and losing all but 2 hurt the record. Right now, Maryville has 511 all time victories.

Next Saturday against Sewanee is Maryville's chance to even that all time record. It's 17-16 Sewanee at the moment with a 4 game win streak for my Scots.

The temptation is look ahead is always there but Coach Urban and staff are the sort of coaches that will emphasize thinking one game at a time with their players.

I take Hansen's oeuvre with a very large grain of salt.  But this week's predictions might be close to the mark.

I'm glad to see the Scots in the league as there was some pretty chippy contests back when MC was a D3 Independent and we regularly scheduled each other.  My admittedly biased opinion is that Maryville is a much better fit with the SAA schools than what you had in the USA South.  And I think y'all bring a lot to our league in the other sports in the conference.

My hope is Saturday's game is a lot more competitive than our recent experiences against the Scots. We're coming off a good win against one of y'all's former conference mates at NC Wesleyan and we matched up pretty evenly with Brevard even if the final score wasn't in our favor.

Welcome back, MCScots13.  Your team has been mighty impressive so far this year.  Thanks for the additional insights from the SAA's newest team!

MCScots2013

MC President Coker graduated from Rhodes, so I'm sure that has something to do with the situation we find ourselves in.

As far as other sports, Men's Basketball is strong. Women's team has slid a little recently but historically very good. Both soccer teams usually very competitive. Baseball and softball have picked it up the last couple of years. I suspect we'll have Lacrosse teams before long.

Anyone know what's going on with Berry's Christian Lewis? He had an awkward play on the sideline against Huntingdon in the first quarter and haven't seen him since. Ankle? Knee? The backup has been impressive in his absence.

Hard to say.  D3 coaches are notoriously tight-lipped about injuries but if a talent like that isn't playing it's gotta be some kind of injury.  And I don't know that we've ever had anyone from Berry on the boards even back when they were much more active.

I think these predictions look fair. My hot take though: Millsaps upsets Centre. (I have no backup for this take besides me wanting to see some shakeup to start the year that doesn't affect Trinity. Ha).

I can also see the Southwestern-Trinity game being closer than what Hansen's algorithm is saying.

Looking forward to another week!
