What I gather is continuing to do business as usual in the SAA.  Millsaps leaving wasn't a shock but the Southwestern move was unexpected.

But if they are looking at alternatives (and there are a bunch of smart people over there paid to do things like that), nobody is gonna tell me.

Trinity has joined the rebranding club, but unusually opted to leave its athletic branding unchanged (scroll down to see the "Spirit Logo" which remains the same).

One of the decisions of all time...

La Quinta + Frost Bank was certainly a choice.

Reminds me of the old Arizona State logo and the hat my grandfather got in El Paso at the Sun Bowl back in the day.

Have not seen anybody making positive comments about any portion of it. The comments sections on Trinity's social media posts are excellent. Never seen our alumni base so unanimous on an issue before.

I can see why y'all's alumni base is upset. I find it rather blasé.  And very much disconnected from the athletic branding.  But... solely opinions of the author, your mileage may vary, standard disclaimers apply.

How much does all this cost?

Whatever it was, it was too much.  I have never seen Trinity alumni as engaged on anything, and I have yet to see anyone who actually likes it.

Disclaimer:  I was part of one of the focus groups that explored a rebrand.  It was very early in the process and there was agreement that an update was needed but no proposals were presented.  The odd thing was that the thing that seemed most in need of an update was the athletic branding which was totally disparate from the academic branding and continues to be today.

The choice of maroon and pink on the website is a little weird.  I've always been a supporter of academic and athletics colors matching, and no more than 4-5 colors if counting white, black or grey.  The new Trinity color palette has 12.  Yikes.

As an aside, Maryville updated its academic branding 5 years ago and left the athletics untouched.  I think the athletics logos came to be the year before I enrolled, so less than 20 years.

Nice homage to Gibby Haynes.  As bad as it is, I was expecting worse.

This things tend to cause much gnashing of teeth over a long period of time.   There is still some upset among Sewanee alumni from an ill-advised and poorly implemented attempt at rebranding from about 20 years ago that was intended to steer us away from our heritage os the First University of the Confederacy.   That's how we ended up with the silly colon in all of our marketing and why so many people say "Sewanee University" instead of "The University of the South".   Hopefully Trinity's rebrand will not be as fraught.
