Trinity opened the "Rock" era with a 82-74 win at UMHB, with four of five starters in double figures led by their two transfers - Dylan Walker with 15 on 7-13 (but 0-4 from deep) and Ben Estis with 13 on 5-6 (1-1 from deep).  Returnee Dean Balo added 13 but shot only 4-11 (1-7 from deep).  Will Bronson was named SAA Player of the Week after recording 10 points (5-6), 12 boards (career high), and six blocked shots (career high).

Maryville plays at Sewanee tonight. Played well against Berry on Saturday. Looking forward to getting all the teams over to the SAA next year!

MCScots2013

Maryville hit a 3 with a Sewanee off ball fouled called. Refs signaled good made 3 and gave MC the ball on the baseline. Someone tell the guys calling the live stream the score is correct!

MCScots2013

What the hell! They took the score off!!!

MCScots2013

Good. They wisely tallied the book at half and we are up 41-38 start of 2H

D3Navy

Looks like Trinity may be a team to reckon with this year.

They go to UChicago's Midway Classic and take down #3 Emory by 12: 90-78.  Two preseason All-Americans on Emory.

Trinity was fast, aggressive, and relentless.  23 - 9 advantage on points off turnovers.  Emory had several runs that tied the score, but TU managed their players masterfully.

Looking forward to a great season!

Quite the surprise, we'll see if they can repeat tomorrow against a very good UChicago (#11 in the d3hoops preseason poll).

Seems like we have a trend as Trinity was led by Dylan Walker and Dean Balo, each with 18 and Will Bronson had 16 points along with 8 boards.  Zach Fenn had six of the Tigers' 12 steals.  Emory did outrebound Trinity 39-26.

And the answer is no, as UC jumped out to a 50-23 lead and maintained the margin in the second half on their way to an 87-57 win.  The Maroon(s?) put up 40 threes and hit nearly half of them (18) and Trinity was once again badly outrebounded, 34-22 resulting in 22 second-chance points to the Tigers' 6.

One of the those odd 1890's things... people started calling them that when they adopted that color for their uniforms.

I was unsure whether to call the team the "Maroon" or the "Maroons"  ;D

Ah... still is odd name whether you decide its singular or plural.

Good bball team, tho'.

After falling behind by double digits early and trailing by 14 at the break, Trinity stages a stirring comeback early in the second and eventually prevails in OT to defeat Marietta (4-1) 86-81.  Dylan Walker had by far his best game as a Tiger/college athlete with 33 on 13-26, 6-13 from three, along with 5 boards.  Dean Balo added 16 and 2 steals, Will Bronson 15 and a career-high 12 boards, and Zach Fen six crucial steals.  Trinity (3-1) was a dreadful 14-25 from the line and only 8-29 from deep (meaning everyone not named Walker shot a combined 2-16), and will close out their time at the Great Lakes Invitational against Case Western (3-2), who suffered a one point loss to homestanding W&J (4-2).

In other SAA news, Millsaps, behind its new coach who won a total of four games the last two seasons combined at Southwestern, is now 4-0 after a 81-75 win at home over Mississippi University for Women (aka "the W").  And the team that couldn't win more than two games a season the last two years, Southwestern, is now 2-2 after taking a 84-77 loss at TLU.  All three schools have been bouyed by D1/D2 transfers so far this season.

The SAA is on an early heater:  besides the three aforementioned schools, Rhodes is 5-0, Centre 3-1, Berry 3-2.  Only Oglethorpe (1-3) and Sewanee (0-3) are struggling.

Maryville, which will be SAA next year, beat #8 Carthage in the Great Lakes Invitational. Should be some good competition next year. Scots have beaten Berry and Sewanee this year.

Yesterday's SAA results:

  • Centre improves to 4-1 with an 88-75 victory over formerly undefeated LeTourneau (3-1), 88-75.  The Colonels were led by 24 from Drake Ingram and 18 by Kalib Thomas.
  • Sewanee is still looking for their first W after falling to 3-1 Piedmont 96-80.  The Tigers got 28 from Nikolas Avaliani.
  • Berry is back to .500 (3-3) after losing at home to Hanover (3-1) 82-65.  Isaac Plavich came off the bench to lead the Vikings with 17 points in 15 minutes.
  • Oglethorpe got their second win of the season at Covenant College, 108-91.  Malachi Dooley led the way with 31 and 10; Jackson Kemp added 18 and 13.
  • Trinity (5-1) ended their time at the GLI with an easy 75-59 win over Case Western (3-3), 75-59.  The Tigers led 42-17 at the half and emptied the bench in the second with 19 players seeing time on the floor.  No Trinity player saw more than 17 minutes in the game.

Games resume Monday with Millsaps facing Austin (0-2) at home and the Trinity vagabonds playing yet another game in Pennsylvania at La Roche (1-4).
