I ask because their QB only had 5 carries for 1 yard yesterday. Everyone else was getting theirs, so maybe they just went with what works. But that was a bit of an eye opener

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As a retired Army Officer (Lieutenant Colonel; served on Active Duty from 1998-2018), I had the privilege of serving with USMMA grads who worked either as Active Army Officers in the Logistics and Engineering fields, or as USN reservists who came to do their summer work at US Army Transcom seaports, and Coast Guard Academy grads, mostly in Kuwait and at military seaports who had various port security roles, and have always been impressed with grads of both of the D3 service academies.

This past weekend, I watched the Secretaries Cup game on ESPN+ for the first time ever.  It was truly a game for the ages, and its outcome wasn't certain until literally the final "tip" play failed.

I was pulling for USMMA in the matchup simply because during my days as an Army Logistician I did so much work with the Merchant Marine, but I was really just happy to see a good game.

Looking back, I almost wish I had applied to USMMA.  At the time, I didn't realize that their grads could commission not only in the US Navy Reserves, but also as active duty officers in all six branches of the armed forces, and even.........unlike any other federal service academy......in the NOAA Commissioned Corps, which may be the best kept secret in the entire federal uniformed services.

Kudos to both our D3 service academies!

I think I will make watching this game an annual event. 

I try to watch the Army/Navy game every year and pull for Army, but it's hard, given how many West Pointers I had to work with over two decades (my commission was via ROTC).

But I can watch the Secretaries' Cup game and cheer for Merchant Marine with no such caveats!

Visited the Coast Guard Academy with my son the other day since we were in CT visiting family. He's only a rising h.s. freshman, but he is very interested in attending. We will see as time goes on. Lot of improvements being made to campus right now and a beautiful location above the river!

He did not have interest in Conn College but we walked around anyway. Gorgeous campus.

Well, I think that the Coast Guard Academy would be a wonderful choice.  It makes for a really interesting career, simply because instead of just having a national defense mission, as other branches do, the Coast Guard has that, PLUS a maritime law enforcement mission, and a search and rescue mission.

In my Army Logistics days, I worked with Coasties at military seaports in Beaumont, Corpus Christi, and New Orleans; they provided maritime security during deployment/redeployment military outload operations at seaports.  I also worked with some Coasties in Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom at the Port of Ash Shuaibah.  There were active duty Coast Guard staff officers there, as well as one reserve "Port Security" unit with their swift boats; definitely combat oriented.  It'd be a great place to spend 20-30 years.  He'll nearly always be stationed near the coast/beach, or if nothing else, at cool places like Kodiak Island, AK or Hawaii.

And even if he goes to school there and only does his minimum five years of service, he'll have the leadership and managerial experience to make him very marketable in the civilian world, in addition to having a degree from a prestigious, top notch educational instituton!

Again, I enjoy the Secretaries' Cup game more than the Army/Navy game.  I try to watch the latter every year and cheer for Army, but to be honest, I had to work with too many West Point grads during my previous Army Officer career to be a big Army football fan (I did ROTC at John Carroll and went to Case Western Reserve U. for undergrad).
