Swarthmore looked much the better side, dictating the tempo and generating numerous chances by getting the ball wide and whipping in quality crosses. Most attacks started down the right hand side with Freshman right back #12 Noah Daniel, who was solid defensively and savvy going forward (and good size as a freshman)!

Another standout was Freshman #17 Max Wheeler, who came from CT Rush. Good distributor of the ball and midfield engine - nearly scored one late in second half by settling a bouncing ball in the box and faking a shot past two defenders and shooting high near post.

Yeshiva struggled to create clear cut chances, but standout was #7 at the heart of midfield, JR Franco Busso. He appeared to quite frustrated with his teammates towards the end, and I can't entirely blame him. He had 6 goals and 3 assists in 2023 as a Freshman, 2G 2A last year as a sophomore.

**Please note: I only saw the second half**

Unless my livestream is on tape delay, I think you may have only seen the first half.  That game is at halftime.  They are about to start the second half on the stream.  It was a 12:00 kickoff.

Incidentally, Swat is now up 3-0.  Yeshiva is definitely out-matched in this game and it's likely to get worse as Yeshiva's starters tire since I suspect the bench is not deep.

Another football announcer on the JHU v. Rhodes. Maybe he does games with the Gettysburg announcer. Can't leave any dead air.

Thanks Kuiper...that's what I get for sneaking a quick tune-in amidst the chaos in my classroom (HS Teacher)

Ursinus 1-0 SMCM, 10 min remaining in the first half...

Pretty evenly matched game so far. Ball seems to continually get stuck underneath player's feet. Ursinus happy to let SMCM have the ball and play for the counter.

Hmmm, F&M trying something different. Their very good 6'6" centerback, Thomas Kaplan, who played almost every min. last year as a freshman is playing up front. Interesting and not the first time. Cent Conf. player of the Year AJ Kopacz a back was moved to the front and scored a lot of goals. Oscar Horwitz, also a Player of the Year, was the same. Maybe F&M's Peter Crouch though only an inch shorter??

F&M keeper made a very, very good save that should have been a goal. Overall, F&M is just playing kickball right now in the last third. Some chances, but nothing serious.

Let me fix that for you... Scranton won at Messiah, 2-0.

The NCAA scoreboard is already a mess per usual.  Gettysburg actually played Widener yesterday not Hood.  They won 5-0

Thanks for the correction!  I usually check the scores on the team websites (and I did for McDaniel since it was missing), but it was late at night and I didn't for Gettysburg

Keep an eye on Catholic and 2024 Landmark Offensive PoY Holden Woodings...

Catholic are off to a 2-0 start after topping Shenandoah 1-0 and St. Mary's College 4-1. St. Mary's had previously won their first 2 matches against Ursinus (2-1) and York (1-0).

Woodings (SR) had 15 goals in 21 games last season and is now off the mark with a goal against St. Mary's to open his account for this season.

Catholic are carrying 11 juniors and 5 seniors (as per their roster on website). Could be a good year for them. They play Washington & Lee on Sept 13 which may be a good litmus test for the Cards. It will also be interesting to see them go head to head with Scranton in the Landmark, who beat Messiah 2-0 in their first game.

Apropos of nothing, I've been interested to observe the differences among some Centennial Conference teams in terms of how much playing time their first-year players are getting.

Dickinson, who lost relatively few players and did well in the NCAAs, has played very few first-years through the first four games. Three first-years have played so far for a total of 189 minutes. Average first-year playing time is 47 mins. per game.

F&M, who lost more players, has played four first-years through four games for a total of 632 minutes. Average first-year playing time is 158 mins. per game.

JHU, who lost a ton of players, has played 12 first-years through four games for a total of 1780 minutes. Average first-year playing time is 445 mins. per game. Note that for Hopkins, first-years includes transfers. Hopkins has four transfers this year - 2 grad transfers and 2 undergrad transfers. All four have played for a total of 579 minutes or 145 mins per game.

If you only count freshmen, JHU has played 8 freshmen for a total of 1201 minutes or an average of 300 mins per game.

There was talk in the National Perspective thread about Messiah being 0-3 for the first time since 1987.

I don't have the time to go back and look, but I don't remember a time when Hopkins lost multiple games 0-4. Heck, I don't know the last time they lost that badly in a single season.

Gonna be a bumpy ride, as Hopkins Walk-On is alluding to in his post above.

Well, that didn't take much digging. Totally forgot they were blown out against W&L in 2023. 4-0 down in Lexington. That team wound up winning the conference title and losing to #4 Middlebury in the tournament.

And it turns out I did have time. The only other 4-0 loss I see, going back to 2012, was a loss to Neumann. That came during a stretch of seasons when Hop was very mediocre, but they still managed to avoid a bunch of blowouts.
