York lose out after being defeated 2-1 by Stevenson. Stevenson will play Messiah in the MAC Final on Saturday. Anyone know if Stevenson has ever made the NCAA tournament?

Thanks, takes out the sting a bit from early exit.

Well, this was a fun distraction. The short answer is I don't know. But going back through 1995, the answer is "no, unless it happened before 1995."

They won the NEAC in 2005, going 11-0 in conference. But I guess that wasn't good enough to make the field.
In 2010, they won the ECAC championship and that, too, did not garner a bid.

It's a very feast or famine program, at least over the last 20 years. I highlighted a few of the better seasons above, but in most recent years: 4-10-5 in 2023 and 3-10-6 last year.

Making the conference finals is undoubtedly one of their better years in recent memory. Goes without saying that beating Messiah would be fairly unprecedented.

Fascinating! Thanks for taking a deep dive, Hop92...how do you think Stevenson will fare against the Falcons on Saturday?

Hopkins92

No idea, Mr. Nov! :-)

I've barely watched my own team this season, let alone other squads. I watched about 20 minutes of Messiah beating Hood and I will say... They looked remarkably composed and dangerous in the final 3rd. If someone forced me to put money on the table, even without watching a minute of Stevenson this year, I'd put money on Messiah playing at Grantham. That is a very daunting venue.

Hop v. Dickinson for the CC championship.

Over in the NPI thread I see that a PK win by Hop gets both teams into the tourney. Interesting.

Hopkins92

By the way, the first Hopkins goal yesterday was a PK. For some of you turbo-nerds that clock this stuff, the dude that took it did the "no run-up" PK style that garnered so much attention in recent years.

Looks like Appleby is sticking to his guns on that front. Will be interesting if tomorrow's game goes to PKs.

As it stands, I'm going to make my way up to Carlisle with my wife to watch the game.

Hopkins92

Woof. Should've checked the weather... Looking a little grim up in Carlisle tomorrow.

Will be a gameday decision.

Neac most likely didn't have enough teams for a bid putting them in pool B. Played at medaille in 02/03 and it was only 5 teams. They had moved to amcc a year or two after that. Don't think it was a few years until that conference got enough for an automatic bid via pool C.
Ecac is for the teams that don't make ncaa. That wouldn't have helped anyways.

Hopkins92

Ah, of course, forgot about the ECAC thing. Good point.

38 sec goal and 4-0 in the first half by Dickinson. Dickinson definitely flexing and should go a long way in NCAAs, imo. Undefeated most likely after that half. 3 very nice goals and a PK. Doubt Hop has had such a bad half in a long, long time. However, Dickinson played really well, imo. Sorry Hop92, hope you opt to stay home.

Cent. Conf. a well deserved one team conf going into the NCAAs.

SierraFD3soccer

So Hop now common adopted enforced PKs after a year or two of mishap PKs is the no step. It's a technique.

However in the second half Hop had a pk and the player had his plant foot toe pointing very much to the right. IMO, almost impossible to now go to his right. He took it, and, though a nice save, it was not a really, really hard one if your keeper has a good soccer IQ.

As dominating a performance I have seen any team put on JHU.

Saw the two semis and like how Hop moved the ball against the bullets, thought they would have had the better of Dickenson in the conference finals.

Dickinson might be peaking at the right time offensive wise.
