In this day and age, some of these guys will be able to find more than just their education paid for.

You win a national championship, and you have everyone coming back and you leave??? Go try and do it again.

Robinson is elite in D3, but he will not be at the next level. There will be too many players that are just as strong and mostly as quick or quicker and taller.  Won't be the same for him.

Have to respect Vetter, Okorougo, Lazarre for sticking around and trying to repeat, and they came very close.

Overway is going to have issues at the next level, another player IMO who is not suited for D1 even at Mid or lower levels. Those bigs are going to be quicker and stronger and just way more athletic than he is.

If you can get your education paid for, why not leave?
Sure, that is a way to look at it and maybe the right way. How many are already getting some or all of their education paid for. I am not sure most are looking for just the education part.

BTW, per an online source, there are over 800 (and counting) D3 guys in the portal, so this represents only a small fraction of the guys who are at least testing the waters.  I assume, of course, that the vast majority end up returning to their current teams, and maybe the guys who are going more public with it are likely to be the most interested in actually transferring?

First incoming-to-D3 transfer of real note I've seen so far: Max Hurray, who was a rotation player at very high-level D2 program West Liberty, transferring to Roanoke.  He was an all-state player in PA who had at least one D1 offer out of H.S.  Added to Roanoke's returning core, including likely pre-season all-American Jackson Bell and two other starters, I would expect them to be a pre-season top 10 team next year.

Patrick Coleman

Mary Washington is UMW -- since we have a UMW and an MUW, it would be helpful to keep them straight.

UT-Dallas is Division II these days.

So I'm assuming schools can allow transfer application deadline waivers on a case by case basis as it relates to portal players?  Because most private schools had their transfer application deadline the middle of March, and a lot of these schools are pursuing and getting transfers.

I was told by numerous coaches that there's no school where the application deadline applies to athletes anymore, not even the Ivies.

Saw online Sophomore Emmanuel Domingo from DeSales is in the portal. 7.1ppg and 3.4rpg in 26 games with 10 starts. Nearly 60% shooting.

As Ryan states, with regard to athletics, this is easily believable. In fact, I'd bet there are many schools at which this was the (often unwritten) case even before the advent of the now infamous Transfer Portal and NIL era.

NESCAC1, I would never have guessed 800 in the portal for D3. That is almost 2 per team entering the portal. But if that's the case, my guess 400 of those are not even playing basketball next year.

Also just saw 2025 GNAC Rookie of the Year Silvano Ismail is in the portal. From St Joes Maine. Huge first year production. Looks like an injury plagued sophomore year. Still could be a great grab if another school picks him up.
