New Paltz with some good quality chances, had a good first half today versus Cortland. Then gave up two goals in less than a minute in early half off two set pieces Corner then a free kick both header goals. Cortland took over in second half. Coach Axtell with the second half adjustments again. Interestingly Cortland played long off their goal kicks all game.

Oneonta dominates possession and generates lots of corners and shots but cant get one in. Oneonta almost gives the game away with a player receiving his second yellow with 10min. Left in match. Have to say Oneonta really took it to Cortland who had no answers all match.

Buffalo with a draw versus Cortland, Buffalo holds serve and stays in the top spot in SUNYAC. Buff travels to Oneonta Wed.

New Paltz with a disappointing draw versus Oswego jeopardizing their top 4 spot and host Plattsburgh Wednesday. A win versus Platts. Will be big to secure a top 4 slot and a bye or a  home match. Platts needs a win to jump into the top 4.

Cortland rolls along with a win.

After losing to Plattsburgh at home Wednesday 1-2, giving  up a 1-0 halftime lead. New paltz traveled to Buffalo. Buffalo played without their Striker, best player, Rivera. New Paltz with a tough draw today at Buffalo. They were up a man half of the second half. NEw Paltz scores off a free kick nice goal, as Buffalo player lost his mark and NP volleyed it in with 3 min. To go.

Buffalo scores a minute and a half later. I have to question the coaching or lack thereof. You are on the road in a must win to stay top 4 and you make no defensive changes with 3 min to go. That's awful coaching I feel for the squad.
NP travels to Oneonta next.

Plattsburgh dominates Oswego today.
Fredonia still alive with two winnable matches left could they possibly sneak in.

New Paltz with a nice bounce back win versus Oneonta Wednesday and took car3 of business today against Canton. Will host Oneonta will be a very good game.

Platts. Finishes hot, after losing to Cortland reeled off five consecutive wins before a draw today against Buffalo. The well deserved point today makes Platts. The three seed and host Fredonia who they lost to earlier in the sessin.

Cortland rolls to another title. Oneonta limping to the finish line this year.

Pretty big upset with Fredonia taking down Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC playoffs. Fredonia did win the regular season matchup but that was at Fredonia.  Plattsburgh has lost in the first round 2 years in a row now, gotta sting given the regular season success in this time.

I watched the match Platts & New Paltz matches going back and forth.

Platts. took it to Fredonia most of the match. Fredonia GK was their man of the match. Credit to Fredonia they took advantage scoring off a corner with 10 min. To go. Fredonia only had 1 shot in each half.


Oneonta looked really good in the first half moving the ball into open spaces with good combo play. They looked like the team that dominated Cortland. In the second half they played more conservative and New paltz had some moments in second half but not many quality chances.

New Paltz goes out again first-round I believe its 4 of last 5 years, exception PK win over Platts last year. New Paltz struggles in playoffs regardless of the matchup.

Thriller of a match in Cortland. #9 Cortland, who conceded just 5 goals in the regular season (2nd fewest in the nation) go down 3-0 with all three goals coming in an 11 minute span. Not long after, Oneonta's GK is sent off for deliberately handling the ball just outside the box. Cortland scores on the ensuing FK and gets a second before halftime. Cortland came out of the break on the front foot and got the tying goal with over 20 minutes remaining in regulation.

After the equalizer, Cortland seemed to let up a bit as Oneonta still retained their danger to get the game winner & extend their season. Big time recognition for Oneonta's Freshman GK, Nico Osorio, for stepping in after logging only 39 minutes in the regular season. Despite conceding 3 goals, Osorio stood tall with confidence as he denied Cortland's first PK attempt to instill doubt into their Red Dragon rivals.

Osorio has a tall task ahead of him in the SUNYAC Championship as they will travel to Buffalo State & the nation's leading scorer, Diego Rivera (26G, 8A; 2024 1st-Team All-American). Both are potentially fighting for their season's to continue as Buffalo State is on the bubble with Oneonta on the wrong side of the line.

Not sure if the SUNYAC 2024 thread is the appropriate place to put this, but since people continued to use it in 2025 and I didn't think it made sense to start a new thread, I'm putting it here:

SUNYAC Men's and Women's Soccer Split into Divisions, Expand Playoff Format, Reduce Number of Conference Contests

With the addition of Alfred State, Cobleskill and Delhi raising the number of full-time member institutions to 12, the State University of New York Athletic Conference will split its men's and women's soccer conference into two divisions while increasing the number of playoff teams from six to eight.

The SUNYAC also will reduce the number of conference contests from nine to eight with all changes beginning with the upcoming 2026 campaign.

The SUNYAC will be divided into a pair of six-team divisions with teams playing five games vs. divisional opponents and three crossover games against the opposite division. All games will count toward the conference records and current tiebreakers will be augmented to seed the teams for the post-season.

The divisions are roughly divided along the I-81 corridor in an East-West configuration that has been established as follows:

    Eastern Division: Canton, Cobleskill, Delhi, Oneonta, Plattsburgh, Potsdam
    Western Division: Alfred State, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Morrisville, Oswego

"Increasing the conference to 12 teams created an opportunity for the SUNYAC to conduct a comprehensive review of its scheduling and playoff structure," Tom DiCamillo, commissioner of the SUNYAC, explained. "The exciting result is an expanded playoff format using a Wild Card system with a chance for teams seeded fifth and sixth to host first-round playoff games, while the division winners earn byes into the semifinal round."

In addition, DiCamillo pointed out that the number of conference games being reduced from nine to eight allows teams to control more of their schedules in the era the NCAA using NPI. It also reduces some long-distance conference travel.

"Previously, soccer teams would either have four or five road games in a given year; however, now teams can plan on just four road games each season," the commissioner outlined. "In terms of the crossover games road contests, teams will have one or two per year with schools playing teams from the opposite division just twice in a four-year cycle."

For example, Fredonia and Plattsburgh are two of the furthest schools apart in the SUNYAC. They will play each other twice during the current four-year schedule that runs from 2026-29, with each school making just one trip to other team's campus in a four-year period during the regular season.

The playoffs have a unique twist in that there is an emphasis on winning the division or finishing second, while an entire division – in theory – could make the playoffs. This Wild Card system addresses concerns that one division could dominate in a specific season.

The playoffs will work as follows:

    The Top 2 teams in each division will make the playoffs
    The division winners will be seeded 1-2 based on their conference record
    The second-place teams are guaranteed a playoff berth, but not a seed
    The next four-best teams will earn Wild Card berths
    After the division winners, the remaining six teams will be seeded 3-8

    The playoff format will consist of the following:
        First Round
        Second Round
        Semifinals
        Championship

    On the first Wednesday following the end of the regular season, the First Round will feature the following games:
        #8 Seed @ #5 Seed / #7 Seed @ #6 Seed

    On the first Saturday following the end of the regular season, the Second Round will feature the following games:
        #8-#5 Winner @ #4 Seed
        #7-#6 Winner @ #3 Seed

    On the second Wednesday following the end of the regular season, the Semifinals will feature the following games:

        #8-#5-#4 Winner @ Highest Division Winner (#1 Overall Seed)
        #7-#6-#3 Winner @ Lowest Division Winner (#2 Overall Seed)

    On the second Saturday following the end of the regular season the Championship will be played
