Quote from: deiscanton on October 05, 2025, 01:14:17 PMThe co-leaders in the UAA after 1 match round are WashU and UChicago, each at 3 points in the standings, and each with a +3 conference goal differential for tiebreaking purposes.  (UAA tiebreaker rules only allow teams to count only 3 goals of a victory margin per UAA soccer match, so while both UChicago and WashU each won their matches by 4-0 scorelines, in effect only 3 of those goals in the 4 goal victory margins will count toward the conference goal differential.)

I appreciate the tiebreaker scenarios, but once or twice a season, I'll remind others that the UAA does award co-champions.

Every co-champion is entitled to brag about being the UAA champion.  The winner of the tiebreaker does get the auto-bid, but not bragging rights.

Thanks for the clarification.   I just forgot to mention the co-champions part of it for conference title purposes.  Sorry about that.

You're good, no need to apologize.

I cannot remember the last time we had co-champions in soccer, probably have to go back aways.

We had 4 UAA co-champions for men's soccer in the 2012 season, which was the last time men's soccer had UAA co-champions.   In that season, Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, and WashU shared the UAA conference title with each co-champion finishing with 13 points with a 4-2-1 record in UAA play.

Most valuable player that season was Sam Ocel of Brandeis.

Rookie of the year that season was Jorge Bilbao of U.Chicago.

UAA coaching staffs of the year that season were the Brandeis coaching staff led by head coach Mike Coven-- (Gabe Margolis was one of the assistants on the Brandeis staff), and the Carnegie Mellon coaching staff led by head coach Arron Lujan.

2012 was the first time in my memory that Brandeis got a share of a UAA title in men's soccer.   In the 2015 season, Brandeis men's soccer won the UAA title outright.

BTW, out of the 4 co-champions that season, Carnegie Mellon got the AQ on the tiebreaker.   Both Carnegie Mellon and Brandeis went 2-1 vs the other co-champions to separate themselves in the first round of the tiebreaker, and then Carnegie Mellon defeated Brandeis in the head-to-head that season to clinch the tiebreaker on the second round.

Brandeis finished the 2012 regular season at 16-2-1, and not only got a Pool C at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA DIII Men's Soccer tournament, but also got to host first and second round games.   Brandeis then went on to the "Sweet 16", where they lost to Williams, with the "Sweet 16" match being played at Amherst College.

I am not surprised given the dominance of those Chicago teams and some Emory teams too.  By the way, are you watching the women's game?  After 45 minutes of play, two of the top teams in the nation have combined for two shots and one corner according to the live stats.

I am watching the women's game now.  Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties in getting the FloCollege feed started for that game, so the match was not joined in progress on video until the 41st minute. The first half was only shown nearly exclusively on the live stats feed.   No loss there, as there were no goals scored in the first half.  If you are watching this later on the FloCollege replay, you can join the Emory vs Carnegie Mellon women's game at the start of the second half.

Quote from: deiscanton on October 05, 2025, 01:21:51 PMI just watched the Carnegie Mellon equalizer vs Emory on the FloCollege replay.  It looked like Emory did not mark Garten well enough when James Ashby took the corner, so Garten was able to get a header off the corner in the 51st minute to give Carnegie Mellon with what will turn out to be a quality tie vs Emory right now, and perhaps a quality tie that will boost NCAA tournament at-large selection chances for the Tartans at the end of the season.

Credit to CMU coaches, they had a number of set piece plays ready for this game. Their goal was one of them, designed to attach the center of Emory's corner kick defense with a well struck line drive that was headed in by a player who started in front of goalie then ran out to 6 yards, shielded and flicked it in. Hated to see the goal, but applaud the design by the coaches.

After prematurely releasing an NCAA Power Index (NPI) summary report last Monday morning, which then got removed from the NCAA Statistics website just a few hours later, the NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Committee has finally released the first official NPI Summary report of the season.

This NPI report covers games through Sunday, October 5, 2025-- so it includes the UAA conference action from the weekend.

The report is located at http://stats.ncaa.org/selection_rankings/nitty_gritties/45910

Here is how the UAA men's soccer teams are ranked nationally by NPI as of this morning--

1.) Brandeis (#5 nationally in D3NPI)-- 57.935
2.) Emory (#7 nationally in D3NPI)-- 57.701
3.) WashU (#10 nationally in D3NPI)-- 57.503
4.) U.Chicago (#24 nationally in D3NPI)-- 55.844
5.) Carnegie Mellon (#47 nationally in D3NPI)-- 54.483
6.) CWRU (#53 nationally in D3NPI)-- 54.374

The top 6 UAA men's soccer teams this week in NPI carry a quality win bonus, as their NPIs are above 54.

7.) Rochester (#61 nationally in D3NPI)-- 53.871
8.) NYU (#231 nationally in D3NPI)-- 48.572
