We seem to have a lot of folks interested in CWRU here! I'll give a brief shoutout to Emory who came back down 3-0 against Belhaven and scored 5 goals unanswered with multiple right at the end of the game. Captain Logan Steren finds himself on the scoresheet again and continues to come up big for Emory. UAA Offensive Player of the Year Lorenzo Avalos has still yet to feature even though he is on roster so you've gotta think the Eagles will be even more threatening once he returns. Rochester gets their first win at home after a tough defeat against a talented Cortland team. A shoutout to UChicago with a big win over North Park with goals from Wu, Kanellos, Perry, Ratohkin and Jimenez. A close loss against #3 St Olaf should not stop the Uchicago momentum and I think they'll still be super successful in the next few games. It's notable that Washington University just drew North Park after smashing Milikin in their first game. Every game is different though so we will see how that bodes for UAA play. I try not to get too caught up in the first few games of the season but it's interesting as teams start playing common opponents. For our CWRU fans on here, that OWU win was big as Ohio Wesleyan typically is a tournament team. It'll be interesting to see how they do against Wooster today after Wooster smashed Juniata 4-0 on Friday and has an extra day of rest. Another shoutout to NYU for starting the year off 2-0! Hopefully the violets are turning it around to make UAA play even more competitive this year.

UChicago with another big win over Gustavus Adolphus. Sam Jimenez and Evan Kanellos again! The Maroons continue to look formidable this year. For the CWRU followers out there, they lead 2-0 against Wooster with 18 minutes to go. Ohta Kamiya gets the second goal after a selfless assist from Micah Rossen. CMU falls against Otterbein 2-1. GK Yamamoto finishes with 5 saves but it isn't enough to keep the game level. I expect WashU to get back to their winning ways tomorrow and will be interested to see how Rochester and Brandeis do later this week.

CWRU ended up winning 3-0 with a late Rossen volley to clinch it. 3-0-0 on the season with wins vs OWU, Juniata and Wooster. We'll see how it goes, still a couple of tough non-conference games left and then we know how the last couple of conference seasons have gone.

It seems to me that the UAA, in both men's and women's soccer, is a veritable murderer's row.

I feel good about CWRU's women's side, but I think it remains to be seen whether the men can contend.

The Spartans look good thus far (sweet volley from Rossen by the way!) but they've typically done well in the non-conference these past few years. It'll be interesting to see how they do once UAA play starts and they take on some of these ranked teams. Coach Poe finally has a team that's full of his recruited players so it'll be interesting to see how they contend. Nice to see more goals from the Spartans!

What a comeback today from the Washington University men! Down 2 in the 63rs minute and they find a way back to win it 3-2. The former freshman of the year Daniel Kochen finds himself on the scoresheet and I suspect he will continue to show up there in the next few games. They outshot Elmhurst 22-4!

I like computer rankings as much as the next guy, but we are 2-3 games in to the season.  Wake me up in October.

Haha, yeah I know. These rankings will likely look ALOT different in a month or so.

Well, CWRU crushed Oberlin 4-0 with a 29-2 advantage in shots.  Not really a surprise though.

Still waiting to see how they do against better (and especially UAA) competition.

Yeah, we were there. Every bit as one-sided as the stats show. Surprised the score wasn't a bit worse TBH.

On a side note, this was the first game where I had seen coaches challenge calls- and there were 3 of them! One for offsides on a goal, one for penalty in the box and one for handball in the box. All 3 were upheld (original call stood).

So did you actually see the game at Disanto Field?  If so, then how did you like the venue, and the campus as a whole?

Been to DiSanto many times now, but the Oberlin game last night was at Oberlin.

I like DiSanto and the campus. Surrounding area not so much. Son says the turf is a bit older, so a little hard. As I am assuming you know, they don't have space to build dedicated soccer fields since they are in a city, but it's a nice facility.

We're lucky enough to live near several of the Ohio D3's so I've been able to visit a lot of them. The one thing Case doesn't have that many of the others do have, is a newer athletic training complex/building. They have Wyant and Veale, but that's nothing compared to most other schools now.

Gosh, you should see the athletic facilities that CWRU had back in the early 1990s when I was there.

We didn't have the natatorium we now have; only an old 1950s Case Institute of Technology swimming pool.

We didn't have Nobby's Ballpark for Baseball, nor Mather Park for Softball; in fact, we didn't really have baseball or softball stadiums, just diamonds.

We didn't have Disanto Field for football and soccer; we had Finnegan Fields with metal bleacher grandstands and a grass playing surface; very old school track around it.

We didn't have Wyant for training, nor did we have Veale; there were no indoor track or indoor tennis facilities, no hall of fame room, etc.

And now we are renovating the 1918 WWI Armory Adelbert Gym into Disanto Gym, which we will be a first class 1400 seat basketball venue; the 1200 seat Horsburgh Gym will now be for volleyball only.

To be honest, other than a spiffy racquetball and squash complex, and a decent wrestling room, athletic facilities at CWRU back in my time were absolutely ROCK bottom, even by D3 standards.  Worse than most 3A Texas high schools.

NOW I would say we are at least respectable and solid by D3 standards, if not slightly above average.

CWRU has come A LONG way when it comes to athletic facilities.

For that matter, CWRU has come a long way when it comes to sports in general.  When I was at CWRU (1990-1994), NOT ONE CWRU team in ANY sport made the NCAA tourney; we had one or two individual national champions in wrestling, and that was all.  Now we have teams that make the post-season with regularity, and have even played for natties in men's tennis and won one.  We have played for a natty in women's soccer, made the women's D3 college world series, Sweet 16s in men's soccer and men's basketball, and a super regional in baseball.  HUGE difference!

Our football team had losing seasons three out of four years when I was there; only one 7-3 season in 1991.

Since Greg Debeljak took over as football HC, we've made the playoffs five times and the second round twice, and usually have winning seasons.

TOTAL sports paradigm shift!

Curious if Carnegie Mellon still plays on same field they did back in the early 90s. We traveled to a game there and, granted, it was a misty night game, but the field was so dark and weird.
