D3 Men's Soccer Recruiting 101

I wanted to attend Michigan (I grew up in Ann Arbor, but moved away right before high school) and was tempted to go and play club (no varsity at the time). I opted to focus on smaller D3 schools and the rest is (personal) history.

Also, and I'm sure many of you are aware, club teams are often the spark/nucleus/gateway for a future varsity squad.

I follow MI sports pretty closely and both the soccer team and the lacrosse team (at least on the men's side) started as highly competitive club teams. In the early years, the stronger players formed the heart of those first D1 varsity sides... And they still got waxed, despite being top 10 nationally as club teams.

I know that the women's hockey club team is currently quite good and some $$ alums are pushing to turn that squad into a varsity outfit.
