This is just a reposting of last year's rankings, but the ranking is already showing its age after the first weekend of play.  For example, Bridgewater beat #16 Carnegie Mellon, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beat #17 NYU, #23 Pacific Lutheran tied #10 Trinity (TX), RV Carleton tied #5 Johns Hopkins etc

There's so little traffic on this board that I didn't want to create another topic, but they're top 25 so it fits:  congrats to Messiah's women's HC Scott Frey who won the 500th game of his career when he led the Falcons to a 3-0 win over Ursinus.  He's currently second among active women's D3 coaches (trailing Lynchburg's Todd Olsen by nine when the season started) and sixth all-time.  He is the winningest active D3 women's coach by a significant margin (.909 at season's start to Loras' Matt Pucci's .845) as well as all time (Hardin-Simmons' Marcus Wood, now at Dallas Baptist, .866).

It was great to see Coach Frey get his 500th win.  With winning 90% of his games I would guess 600 wins is within reach if he coaches another 4 to 5 years.

Looking forward to this Friday's game @ 4pm (on a nuetral field and no paywall) between #3 Christopher Newport (4-0-0) and the now #8 Case Western (5-0-0).  Both teams undefeated and both teams have not conceded a goal yet this year.  So something has to give!

Polar opposite seasons for Messiah men's and Messiah women's soccer.

Christopher Newport is having a stellar season for both men and women.

CentPA

Not only are the Messiah men's and women's teams having polar opposite seasons but both seasons are quite historical.  The last time the men's team had only 2 wins in their first 8 games was in 1969, and the last time the women started the first 9 games with all wins (during regulation time) was 2006!

I was surprised that Christopher Newport remained 3rd in this weeks poll given they had another tie.  I would have thought that Case Western would have bumped ahead of them.

CentPA

Correction:  I meant to say 2010 was the last season the Messiah women's team won their first 9 games (during regulation) .. so maybe not as historical.  ::)  In 2014 they also won their first 9 games but for two of those wins they would need the 2nd overtime period to secure the win.  Those two games were against William Smith and Misericordia who they also happened to play this year as well.

Pomona-Pitzer edged out CMS on Wednesday in a classic version of the Sixth Street Rivalry before about 400 crazies at Pritzlaff Field.  It was 0-0 with the teams playing fairly evenly, but CMS was getting momentum in the second half when Pomona-Pitzer's Hannah Hong scored on a counter-attack in the 87th minute to secure the win for the Saghens.

CentPA

Kuiper - thanks for the Pomona-Pitzer/CMS recap.  I wish their (Pomona-Pitzer) games weren't behind a paywall.  Hannah Hong would be a player worth watching - a returning first team All American now a senior.

Really a competitive game going on right now between Tufts and Wesleyan.  No score with 20 minutes left.

CentPA

#21 Wesleyan gets a tie on the road at #6 Tufts with a 0-0 score.  Fun game to watch.

CentPA

There are some good NESCAC games on today (if you are so inclined).

Colby is playing at #23 Amherst at 11am, who they are currently tied with in the conference standings.

At Noon, Bowdoin is playing at #13 Williams,

and at 2pm #21 Wesleyan plays at #10 Middlebury.  This is after Wesleyan earned a tie playing at #6 Tufts just 24 hours ago .. talk about a team working all weekend!
