You can read all about it here.....

But basically, the "Pioneer" mascot was unpopular and they took the opportunity to rebrand.  Some might claim it was just another example of caving to woke politics but if that were the case, wouldn't they change then name of the actual school since it's named after 2 actual "Pioneers"?

Please don't....George--you've been on here long enough to know what Old Dog blames everything on.  If you have forgotten, just click on his profile and click the "show posts" button.  You can read, for days, Old Dog's reason.

Linfield's Wyatt smith was a finalist in 2022. Not sure if that was the last time but it certainly wasn't that long ago....

When was the last time a West Coast kid was nominated?

Quote from: olddog on November 24, 2025, 11:33:01 AMYou guys kill me, so only NWC teams get better as the season goes on...but SCIAC don't...
You are both right the leagues are down.

On a side note Corona Centennial QB (top 5 ranked team in nation) has said he is going to Pomona, if this turns out to be true and he is not offered after the season ends, it is a huge land for PP....kid will start day 1. Very bad news for the SCIAC DC's...
Old Dog--I know you just like to stir the pot and intentionally misinterpret things so I'm not even going to try to explain it because I'm assuming you actually understood what I was saying.

Quote from: wildcat11 on November 16, 2025, 02:43:46 PMFeel like the 'Cats are playing the best ball in the NWC to end the year but have ton of areas to address in the offseason.  That said, the 2026 Linfield squad has a chance to be pretty good if they can make those improvements.

Congrats to the Rats. Well earned NWC title and good luck in the playoffs.

If Chapman can't beat this Whitworth team (when was the last time a SCIAC team beat an NWC program in the playoffs?), then honestly the whole league should just be banned from post-season play. This is probably as "down" of a year in the NWC as they are going to see...

Not sure if this was rhetorical but Chapman beat Linfield 68-65 in the 1st round in 2019. 2019 was a boon year for the SCIAC as both Chapman and Redlands had some of their best teams. They didn't play at all the next year, Whittier and Oxy dropped football, the conference went to a silly divisional structure in order to keep football going with just 6 isolated teams, and the conference has suffered mightily. Not that they were ever beating the NWC in the playoffs before that anyway.

As far as this year is concenerd, the SCIAC is about as down as it has ever been. Chapman has clearly been the class of the conference but they have had some tight games and scares against teams that, frankly, are not very good

Hoping for a competitive game. Pine Bowl is one of my favorite facilities!!
SCIAC and NWC are equally bad this year. Either team can win it or blow it on Saturday.  I'm betting on Chapman but it's a toss-up for sure.  I will say that Whitworth has probably improved more from the beginning of the year but that was after getting their butts handed to them by a Redlands team that leaves a lot to be desired.  Chapman started strong (playing close against Hardin Simmons and Linfield) but then, as mentioned by the previous poster, played close games against some pretty bad SCIAC teams.

Indeed.

Even though UPS is just horrible on defense, it's not easy to score TDs on your first 10 possessions and 11 of 13 (the final one could have been another score but 'Cats took a knee to end the game at the UPS 10).  Got to see a lot of the future talent and it was nice to see the back-up QBs have a chance to throw it a little.  Good effort by the 'Cats on nearly every front (expect those darn penalties that reversed 2 pick-6's).

Just so everybody plans accordingly---the Linfield/Lewis and Clark game is at 1:00pm Pacific Time (not the 2:00pm EST/11:00AM time that is currently showing on the d3 scoreboard.

Keep in mind George that if the offense isn't moving the ball and sustaining drives then the defense is having to do more.  In the past--they'd get a 3 and out and the offense would eat up some clock.  Now they are back on the field quickly and that takes it's toll.  Not saying our D is up to par with our best but it's definitely what's keeping us in games.

I agree with you both!  Playing teams twice is dumb but keeping teams in the hunt longer makes things much more interesting....SCIAC just needs to add more teams to accomplish both!

SCIAC champ is often the sacrificial lamb but I think this year they *could* get by a first round matchup against the  NWC champ.  We definitely aren't seeing a dominant team up north this year.

'Cat's passing game was much better (not sure how much of that was PLUs defense) with McNabb showing much greater accuracy.  Even in the first half, they moved the ball well but got killed by turnovers and penalties.  The lack of discipline has been an issue for years but the talent on the field has been able to overcome it.  That is not the case with this team.  I made a comment to CalCat last week that a key penalty not only allowed Whitworth to stay on the field when they should have been coming off, but it caused our defense to stay on the field resulting in one of our players sustaining a big injury.  Penalties create so many issues and need to be better addressed by the coaching staff.

Defense remains solid.  O-line is still a huge problem.  I agree with 11 on Spurbeck and O-Bagy getting more carries.  Perhaps Pfeifer needs to be used as a slot back.  He just doesn't seem comfortable running up the middle--which I guess could be because there is not a lot of room being created for him.

Got busy Saturday night watching baseball and neglected to check-in on the SCIAC games.  Looks like I missed a crazy night!!!  LaVerne has been knocking on the door the last few weeks (had a lead vs Pomona at halftime in the first meeting) and it's good to see them finally get that win.  Much like the NWC, the difference between the top of the SCIAC and bottom of SCIAC are not as far apart as they have been in recent times.  Things may separate again when teams aren't having to double up--they always say that it's hard to beat the same team twice, right?

Quote from: wildcat11 on October 21, 2025, 10:04:21 AMAgreed that Linfield hasn't improved and that's surprising as hell.  Worst Linfield offensive line in 25+ years and that's not an exaggeration. I die a little inside every time Linfield tries to run the ball inside for a 1/2 yard gain.
I'm going to disagree a little and say that Linfield's offense has improved some but that improvement is from such a low starting point and at such a slow rate that they aren't keeping up with other programs this season.  McNabb actually looked better throwing the ball but the line play and lack of a running game absolutely killed the offense.  Pair that with our defense getting pushed around (especially by the Whitworth running game) and absolutely horrible special teams play and you get what you get.

Quote from: Dr. Doolittle on October 19, 2025, 11:20:04 AMThree games yesterday in SCIAC and three close games that should have been blow outs.  La Verne made it a game with a week CMS.  Redlands let PP come back and almost pull off a comeback and Chapman should have won by 21.  SCIAC will likely send Chapman to playoff to get smashed in the first round.

Yeah, it looks like the conference has fallen back to Laverne. They are now able to compete.

Does anyone know the division tie-breaker if Redlands and CLU end up with the same record and split their head-to-head games? Seems like a big deal since one of them will get to play for a playoff spot and the other would be wasting its last week preparing for a meaningless game. CLU could handle business and win it themselves but Redlands is playing much better since the QB switch and I have a feeling they're going to get it done.
I know the conference tie breaker (in the event of a three way) was the Rose Bowl rule but not sure if the same would apply to the division.  I'd assume though, if it's a two-way tie then head-to-head settles it (and only the "conference" head-to-head game would count <?>)....

Quote from: wildcat11 on October 18, 2025, 07:21:45 PMCongrats to Whitworth.  Played better in all 3 phases of the game today and executed their game plan.

For Linfield, the issues that have been there since day one were again there today and it exposed the 'Cats.  Can't run the ball, terrible special teams play, trouble generating pressure our of the front four, etc, etc.

The 'Cats better have a sense of urgency because there isn't a game left on the schedule I would say Linfield is going to steamroll and then get recruiting their asses off in the off season.
Yup- this might be the weakest 'Cat team in the D3-era.  Pios getting handled by Fox was a bit a surprise.  Not sure Whitworth runs the table... could get messy in the NWC but whoever moves onto the playoffs will get embarrassed in short order.
