I had a similar interception opportunity once, and let's just say my hands failed me.  ;)

Hands failed you?  I would blame the missing half a digit

Congratulations to River Falls!  Watching this game tonight was reminiscent of what happened in 23 with Cortland......River Falls used the same formula and won.  Good for all involved and to the WIAC as well.  The competition from the other teams had hardened this team enough to take the NC punch and survive and thrive after it.

Quote from: sju56321 on December 06, 2025, 03:16:31 PMWe were really spoiled by good QB play from Erdmann and Syverson-Feeney stinks today

We didn't handle the pressure and river falls had better athletes.
Another disappointing playoff loss. 4-4 the last 4 playoff appearances.
SJU is at best a top 10-15 D3 program.

Calm down with the hyperbole and Debbie Downer stuff......we just lost to the likely other team playing in the Stagg Bowl (North Central clearly is the best team).  The reality of D3 football is the best teams are clustered geographically and forced to play each other early in the playoffs, thus never allowing for a true 1-2-3-4 bracket.  River Falls is a once a decade team right now with Blaha and his supporting cast is very good.

Not making any effort to run the ball throughout the season came back to haunt us.  We can't continue to throw the ball 50+ times in playoff games and expect to win.

Final point- let's have some perspective......we ended our season 10-2 with loses to two teams in the Top 5 of the country.  The last time our season ended the way we want the oldest of today's players were 2-3 yrs old, the d3 playoffs are (and always have been) a gauntlet.

Quote from: CHUBBS PETERSON on December 02, 2025, 11:26:36 AM"Uh, Sir? What if I told you that is EXACTLY what they're doing?" ;D

It seemed like they may have been doing just that, except for Andrew Porter.

He was their best player in the last 50 years at Mac......

Quote from: DuffMan on November 21, 2025, 10:20:04 PMOh my goodness Jett Feeney is good.
Could you elaborate? Is he going to follow his brother to Collegeville? Did someone mention Kurt Ramler's son being really talented as well? Is he committed to St John's? Appreciate the insights!
The younger Feeney is being recruited by FCS schools.  I think NDSU, where is dad played, is going after him big time.
It's not Ramler's son.  It's his nephew.  Plays for Chanhassen.  They play in the 5A championship today.

Jett Feeney is being recruited by several FBS schools in addition to the expected suspects in the FCS.  He will have both P4 and G4 opportunities as he already has offers from schools in both.  His best WR, David Mack, spent last weekend (after the semis) at Ohio State.

Quote from: hazzben on November 17, 2025, 05:31:52 PMI saw Logan post that Wart got done a diservice, essentially treated like a 2 seed in their own quad. He might be right, but aside from NPI Wartburg just doesn't looke like a very elite 1 seed IMO given the stats above.

That said, the MIAC finds itself in 2 of the 3 toughest quadrants ever according to Logan's numbers. If we get anyone to the quarters or beyond we'll have earned it, great chance to reset the recent national narrative about the conference.

The success that SJU and Bethel have in this tournament will do very little to change the legitimate narrative that the MIAC has two very good programs that see very little competition other than their now once a year regular season meeting...prior to the playoffs.  It has been over 20 football seasons since a current MIAC team not named SJU or Bethel won the league title.

The reality is most schools in the conference are waffling(at best) in their support and commitment toward building competitive football programs......words but very little definable action.  The recipe needed to build requires a level of institutional interest in doing so that just frankly doesn't exist beyond the two schools mentioned above.

The switch to playing everyone in conference also took away two additional competitive games (one NC and the conference title game) for both SJU and Bethel......that hurts nationally.

Both teams will be tested in their respective brackets and I hope both advance deep in the playoffs.
Do you think there's a chance that any MIAC schools drop football? Do schools like Hamline, Macalester, CSS benefit in enrollment numbers by having football programs? What other reasons are there for continuing their programs?

Honest answer; I believe there is more than a chance that one or more of the schools in the conference drop football......it's likely.  Some of the high brow academic types at a handful of these schools have been quietly pushing for the elimination of the "Neanderthal" activity that promotes violence on their campuses.  It's expensive and most of those schools frankly don't really get an enrollment bump off the 50-70 guys they have on roster.

There was a push as part of the "remove UST" activity that fortunately didn't gain traction where a couple schools were attempting to institute roster caps on all teams...logic was if SJU, Bethel, Concordia (and UST at the time) couldn't keep more than 75-90 players those student athletes "naturally" would choose to attend one of the other schools......a sort of trickle down economics theory in football recruiting.

The major timing variable on decision(s) to be made regarding maintaining a football program for most of the "less successful" football schools will be dictated by two things; national playoff success from SJU and/or Bethel and whether or not either of those schools become wildly successful with NIL (which would widen an already large gap between the top and everyone else).

At approximately 10pm last evening a survival decision was made......the heat was turned on so I'm out......the night before we had dropped to 60 in the house and the dog spent the night scratching the hell out of her plastic kennel liner in an attempt to fluff up her imaginary blanket.

Still in the running in Fargo with the house a chilly 62 this morning, with the added caveat that our AC is still technically on.

The Kacz knee injury at practice during the playoffs was a killer.  The fumbled snap at the goal line (not Linnemann's fault) almost cost me an FCC violation and fine as I was doing color and came millimeters away from say F____

I have read the last couple pages and want to respond to a couple items; the issue of players (QBs or other positions) that "deserve to play" or "would have played" if it weren't for a better player (D1 transfer or anyone else for that matter) are playing with fire......as a former coach that was fortunate to coach in two Stagg Bowls and 4 consecutive semifinals or better I learned the hard way that starting/playing time for all positions needs to be/should be determined based on whether or not that player could start in the Stagg Bowl against North Central/Mount Union and perform at a level high enough to help his team win the National Championship.  That level of qualitative player analysis doesn't add weight to a player's year in school or whether or not "he's a good guy and put in his time"......Both Erdmann and Syverson, while transfers, were heavily recruited by SJU prior to their one year attempts at the FBS.  Neither one of those two was a 1 year "hired gun" as somewhat insinuated by the people questioning SJU's QB room.  I would also point out one of the most obvious issues of college football at all levels in 2025......NO ONE wants to be the backup QB on any roster, EVERYONE believes they are good enough to be the starter.  Few are willing to work and develop and those that do are star performers.

On the issue of running game production vs throwing the ball 50x game.........offensive line architecture and their performance determines the balance or lack of it for an offense.  Last season's line with a healthy Caden Wheeler would have significantly altered the passing emphasis with Aaron needing to throw 50x game late in the season.

Just looked and that would be correct......6-0-1 on the season surrendering ZERO points.  Tied the Cobbers 0-0

Quote from: sjujohnnie on September 13, 2025, 09:54:44 AMThe long wait for Johnnie football to return is finally only a mere 4 hours away! I read in an article that both of our potential starting QBs are lefties! Not only will it take some getting used to a QB not named Syverson, but will take some adjusting to watching a leftie! Go Johnnies!

SJU football fans haven't seen a LH QB as a starter for at least 40 years, maybe longer......

For those SJU football fans (and others too) that haven't seen this news that was shared by the family last night:

It is with profound sadness that the Gagliardi family shares the loss of our wonderful mother, Peggy Gagliardi.

We were greatly blessed to have Peggy as our mother. The greatest gift both of our parents gave us was their love for each other. Our mother and father loved each other so deeply and so well that their love surrounded our entire family. We grew up watching our parents lovingly dance in our house. We heard them compliment each other constantly and witnessed them support each other through a lifetime. Their kindness toward each other is the greatest gift they could have given us. Whenever one of our parents walked through the door, they immediately sought the other out, greeting with a smile and a kiss.

Mom was a selfless giver, always willing to do anything for her family. She was kind, compassionate, and endlessly patient.  No matter what our interests and passions were, mom dove into the passion with us and became as enthusiastic as we were.

We were so lucky to have a mother that always showed up to any event we were in (which was mostly sports.)  She sat through the heat, rain and cold...  to watch us with great pride no matter how well we did. Mom also drove home many of our classmates who would not have been able to participate in activities without her willingness to drive them.
We always knew mom would be proud of us, no matter what we did. This gave us strength and confidence. She gave that same love to her 19 grandchildren.

Mom was always busy doing something. After cooking, cleaning, and caring for us, she would sew clothes, do puzzles, paint or read. She was an artist and painted many beautiful paintings that now hang in her children and grandchildren's homes. Peggy was a voracious reader and encouraged us to become avid readers as well.
Our father used to say, "There are givers and takers in this world, and Peggy is certainly one of the givers." We saw this every day.

Peggy and John were married 63 years until John's death in 2018. Together they raised their four children— Nancy, John, Gina and Jim— on the St. Johns campus before moving to their home on Watab Lake. Dad voiced his gratitude to Mom every day. He joked that he had "outkicked his coverage."  As children, Dad taught us to appreciate our mother for all she did. As adults, we are able to appreciate our mother for all that she was.

We entrust Peggy to God's loving mercy, confident that she is now reunited with her husband, John, and their infant son, Joseph, who died a few weeks before he would have been born.
Peggy is survived by her four children: Nancy (Tom) Little, John (Barbara) Gagliardi, Gina (Jeff) Benson, and Jim (Anne) Gagliardi. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
