Quote from: sjujohnnie on September 13, 2025, 02:15:18 PMWhat a ripoff. I pulled up the audio, but the video is a play ahead of it. Garbage.

Bigger ripoff, no single game purchase available on Hudl for the video

Quote from: sjujohnnie on September 13, 2025, 09:54:44 AMThe long wait for Johnnie football to return is finally only a mere 4 hours away! I read in an article that both of our potential starting QBs are lefties! Not only will it take some getting used to a QB not named Syverson, but will take some adjusting to watching a leftie! Go Johnnies!

SJU football fans haven't seen a LH QB as a starter for at least 40 years, maybe longer......

For those SJU football fans (and others too) that haven't seen this news that was shared by the family last night:

It is with profound sadness that the Gagliardi family shares the loss of our wonderful mother, Peggy Gagliardi.

We were greatly blessed to have Peggy as our mother. The greatest gift both of our parents gave us was their love for each other. Our mother and father loved each other so deeply and so well that their love surrounded our entire family. We grew up watching our parents lovingly dance in our house. We heard them compliment each other constantly and witnessed them support each other through a lifetime. Their kindness toward each other is the greatest gift they could have given us. Whenever one of our parents walked through the door, they immediately sought the other out, greeting with a smile and a kiss.

Mom was a selfless giver, always willing to do anything for her family. She was kind, compassionate, and endlessly patient.  No matter what our interests and passions were, mom dove into the passion with us and became as enthusiastic as we were.

We were so lucky to have a mother that always showed up to any event we were in (which was mostly sports.)  She sat through the heat, rain and cold...  to watch us with great pride no matter how well we did. Mom also drove home many of our classmates who would not have been able to participate in activities without her willingness to drive them.
We always knew mom would be proud of us, no matter what we did. This gave us strength and confidence. She gave that same love to her 19 grandchildren.

Mom was always busy doing something. After cooking, cleaning, and caring for us, she would sew clothes, do puzzles, paint or read. She was an artist and painted many beautiful paintings that now hang in her children and grandchildren's homes. Peggy was a voracious reader and encouraged us to become avid readers as well.
Our father used to say, "There are givers and takers in this world, and Peggy is certainly one of the givers." We saw this every day.

Peggy and John were married 63 years until John's death in 2018. Together they raised their four children— Nancy, John, Gina and Jim— on the St. Johns campus before moving to their home on Watab Lake. Dad voiced his gratitude to Mom every day. He joked that he had "outkicked his coverage."  As children, Dad taught us to appreciate our mother for all she did. As adults, we are able to appreciate our mother for all that she was.

We entrust Peggy to God's loving mercy, confident that she is now reunited with her husband, John, and their infant son, Joseph, who died a few weeks before he would have been born.
Peggy is survived by her four children: Nancy (Tom) Little, John (Barbara) Gagliardi, Gina (Jeff) Benson, and Jim (Anne) Gagliardi. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Not spilling the names or details (to quote John G. "No damn scouting reports") but SJU's offense just picked up a couple MAJOR transfers that could/should/will have an enormous impact on production and efficiency in the post Syverson era......

Thrilled that the "Championship Game" has been eliminated and the divisional garbage that came with it.

Quote from: Redtooth on May 01, 2025, 08:55:05 PMAn article came out today about D1/FBS NIL and the cost to play with the big boys......last fall Ohio State spent just north of $20MM for the roster that won the National Championship.  For the upcoming season, Texas is said to be spending between $35-40MM.  Those teams hoping to compete into the playoffs will likely all have $20MM payrolls this fall.  The cost of doing business will escalate until the courts force a salary cap.
Nick Sabin said recently in an interview that he would not coach college football with the current NIL structure in place. His exit clearly shows that he is a man of his word.

Nick also had the famous quote last year on the first Game Day of the season, "if you don't pay the right guys, you'll be $hit out of luck"

In terms of him not coaching with the current NIL structure in place, his new ESPN contract of $438MM gives him plenty of reasons to stand on his word.  He is unbelievably skilled at his current role.

Fr. Don was a delightful human being and his impact on 8 decades worth of Johnnies could never be fully calculated......he married my wife and I 29 years ago in Linton, ND......what a trip, he rode with me from campus two days before the wedding and joined us for all the events before the wedding. My best man offered to drive him back to campus the next day, which he did significantly hung over (frankly probably still drunk)......still tells great stories of their conversation during that 5.5hour drive.

His grace and presence were greatly appreciated when he attended my dad's funeral a couple years ago with a couple other SJU folks/friends.

May he Rest In Peace!

The future schedules for 25 and 26 have been available for all teams on the MIAC site for some time......minus the non-conference elements.

Tried to copy and paste and it didnt format correctly.  Here is the link

The conference (like most DIII football leagues) has been incredibly top heavy and consistent over the last nearly 40 years......dating back to 1987 when GAC won their last title only four schools not named SJU, Bethel or UST.  Hamline won in 88, Concordia won in 90, 95 and 04, Carleton won in 92 and Augsburg in 97.

The prospective student athletes being recruited today were not alive the last time the league had balance or parity......and frankly I would be shocked if it ever does again.  The commitment of time, resources and a long-term viable plan will prevent anything to exist in college football at this level that looks like balance or parity.  More likely we might see schools give up on football and conferences combine for football purposes.

Quote from: Boys of Fall on January 08, 2025, 10:03:39 PMFor better or worse, the game of college football is changing.  SJU has not done too bad with Erdmann and Syverson, both transfers.

On a related note of the game changing, does anyone know anything further on the non-NCAA JUCO eligibility rule changing?  Is Mendez going to be back next year?

The strategy of pulling in a high level transfer could come back to bite the Johnnies someday.

Both QBs mentioned were heavily recruited by SJU prior to their going to larger FBS schools and transferred to SJU with sufficient eligibility remaining to allow for complete integration into the culture and program that is SJU Football.  I don't consider either of them to be from outside the family of SJU and both will forever be remembered as "all-time" greats......I believe the same for Feeney who is inbound.

The days of multiple QBs being recruited into the same class and being willing to sit/compete/backup like Seiler, Pletcher, Kemper, Ramler, Linneman, Stanger, Denne, Keating are long gone in all levels of college football.

Quote from: sjujohnnie on January 06, 2025, 11:09:32 AMLooking ahead to the fall, how does anyone see St John's looking? Looks like we have two open dates yet to be filled with non-conference opponents. Obviously the toughest test of the conference slate will be traveling to Arden Hills to face Bethel in the third conference tilt of the season. How different will our squad (& theirs) look? We have a transfer QB from USD that will competing to fill some big shoes. Can we build on this season or do we take a step back?
I think they will only play one non con due to playing full MIAC again next year? Not sure.

Johnnies should be solid again, probably not quite as good as this year. The more research on the USD QB, he might not even play much. Only started a couple high school games and went to USD as a walk on because his father was an all American there. Probably wouldn't beat out Dittbenner. My sources are telling me that a couple more transfers are yet to be announced, potentially another high profile QB...

Ah $hit GoBigRed, no scouting reports......

Quote from: 84SJU on December 26, 2024, 07:26:51 PMWill Jung have to sit out a year before he is eligible to play?

The transfer rules no longer require any sit out period......can play immediately.

Quote from: faunch on December 21, 2024, 05:13:29 PMAnyone know why the D2 championship is being played today but we gotta wait until after new years to play the D3 championship on a Sunday???

It would be really hard to play a D-III championship game today since we still have to eliminate two teams.

The playoff expansion added a week of games this season and moving forward.  The D2 playoffs have 32 teams, thus being able to get done this week.  FCS has a 24 teams playoff that starts a week later forcing them to break for Christmas and play the championship game the first weekend (now Monday night) of January.

Congratulations to Matt Jung on his rapid ascension during the recruiting process......started the week with a handful of offers from directional schools, followed by the Montana Grizzlies, Washington State, Iowa State and his home state school; the University of Wisconsin......he committed late this afternoon to join the Badgers.  I am going out on a limb that he will play on Sundays in a few years.  He is/was a generational talent at Bethel and in the MIAC!

Congratulations to the finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy as well!

Quote from: DuffMan on December 19, 2024, 12:43:42 PMI bumped into both Hayden Sanders and Jeremy Hood at a wrestling meet last night.  Johnnie defense was well represented!

How many fingers on the attendees?
