I think the quality of athlete at UR has dwindled a little bit.  I suspect it is due to the lack of effort being put into every facet of the program.  If the kids played hard, it would be one think, but it appears that the kids are playing very lazily and that is what the coaches allow.  You are either coaching it or allowing it.  Hopefully the AD is putting some feelers out to potential candidates.  6 years ago this was a top 25 program that would have gotten some big names.  Now, program has potential, but time will tell.

The stats for UR are appalling at best.  Below rock bottom.  Not even pretty Good.

Redzone- 3 of 8 for UR/Opponents are 13 of 14

APU didn't show much, but I suspect UR will have trouble with them.  0-5 is a reality for the Bulldogs.

Very loser mentality at the end of the half for the Bulldogs. At CL 22, don't take a time out until 3 seconds. Then miss the FG. Take a time out with 10 seconds. Take a shot at the EZ. There are no other QB in the program? Qb play is so bad and UR paid for a OC qb coach. I feel bad for these kids. Offensively the players are fighting uphill battles cause the coaches can't figure it out.

Well UR played poorly again. They have been shut out 6 of 8 quarters this season offensive with two guru OC on staff. The offense once again put up less than 300 total yards and consistently put the defense in bad spots. Cal Lu, APU, Chapman in that order. 0-5 or 1-4 is very likely.

Thanks for all the predictions.  About time this board comes to life.  UR had two weeks to get the offense some kind of identity.  The defense will keep UR competitive, just need the offense to act like they get coached by full time coaches.

Goode's excuse was that he had to be the OC too.  Now he has an OC and they have managed to get worse offensively.  Gonna be a long year in Bulldog land.  At least the AD that made the HC hire got enshrined in the Hall of Fame at Redlands while the football team has to meander in the maze of mediocrity.

It ceases to amaze me. OC year two and it's the same unimaginative offense that we have seen for years at Redlands. 10-29 passing, 3 yards per play and shut out. Whitworth coming to town is not a good thing for the Bulldogs. This has to be rock bottom. Never mind, APU, Cal Lu and Chapman in the coming weeks. 0-5 is very likely.

Game review
The QB might be the worst qb Redlands has run out there in a long time. Misses easy throws that high school kids make. OL is fat and slow, again. Saw counter get chased down from behind a few times. Defense was put in bad situations constantly. Tackling wasn't great, but no doubt Mariani will get that fixed. Special teams was a D-  missed fg, punt was blocked, and was not ready for a surprise onside. So bad.

Redlands down 0-20 at half. 23 offensive plays for 59 yards. Gonna be a long season for the Bulldogs. Had 8 months to figure this stuff out. If Mariani wasn't the DC, would easily be 35 nothing.

4 wins in the SCIAC the past 3 seasons for UR.  Picking them middle of the pack or lower seems about right.  Pathetic state of affairs in Redlands.

Should have been Mariani in 20 if they weren't gonna open it up nationally.  With the AD getting rid of long time staff,  I would assume she is open to a national search since she has been a few different institutions.

The conference is wide open this year.  APU will be formidable since they can get anyone into school and give them money too. 

100% agree.  He got the Head Coach job same time as the Men's Basketball coach got to UR.  Men's basketball has grown exponentially, while football has fallen on very hard times.  Look at both Jim and the basketball coaches previous head coaching jobs.  Jim Good, awful, basketball coach, great.  Maybe past experience means something, like we all said when Jim Good was given the job. 

So awesome to see UR win a Natty in any sport.  Sad to think where the football team would be if they had actually hired a head coach when the AD we don't speak of took the lamest way out ever and didn't open the job or show some spine to keep Maynard.  Basketball is getting it done and now softball.  Football was rolling for almost 30 years and now is awful.  Such a pity where football could be with this new AD who is wanting sports to be great at Redlands.

Oxy had terrible lights and they knew it.  Major home field advantage, Cal Lutheran always had UR play in the 1pm time slot which was always hot.  I wonder why they went away from that.  UR should have home games during the day in late October/November.  Maybe 4pm.  Beautiful time of year in that region of the IE.

Same old story for UR.  Head Coach complained for years about having to be the HC and OC, so the school ponies up and gets him an OC.  What happens, an even worse offense is on the field.  Coach Mariani must be steaming mad in meetings about having to have lights out games every week to keep the team in the games. 

Any win is a good win. UR still has major issues if they can only score 17 points against a bad CMS team. Still saw some major effort lack of effort multiple times on offense. Offense is predictable just as years past. Let's get a homecoming win this weekend Bulldogs.

A good HC can overcome poor school culture.  The school will let him recruit whoever he wants.  Being lazy on the field has nothing to do with school culture, purely a HC issue.  Poor athletes can still play hard and I would argue that Maynard was able to take those same athletes and make them champions.  The defense has done that for the past 15 years to keep the Bulldogs in games while the offense lacked creativity and motivation.
