Oxy had terrible lights and they knew it. Major home field advantage, Cal Lutheran always had UR play in the 1pm time slot which was always hot. I wonder why they went away from that. UR should have home games during the day in late October/November. Maybe 4pm. Beautiful time of year in that region of the IE.

Same old story for UR. Head Coach complained for years about having to be the HC and OC, so the school ponies up and gets him an OC. What happens, an even worse offense is on the field. Coach Mariani must be steaming mad in meetings about having to have lights out games every week to keep the team in the games.

Any win is a good win. UR still has major issues if they can only score 17 points against a bad CMS team. Still saw some major effort lack of effort multiple times on offense. Offense is predictable just as years past. Let's get a homecoming win this weekend Bulldogs.

A good HC can overcome poor school culture. The school will let him recruit whoever he wants. Being lazy on the field has nothing to do with school culture, purely a HC issue. Poor athletes can still play hard and I would argue that Maynard was able to take those same athletes and make them champions. The defense has done that for the past 15 years to keep the Bulldogs in games while the offense lacked creativity and motivation.

Welp. 47, pic 6 v Whitworth makes 54, points in four games for the Bulldogs. Apparently an OC wasn't the problem. UR is at rock bottom. Losing to Cal Lu at home then Getting shut out by Chapman, offense was inept and back to their predictable ways. UR has a culture problem and that starts at the top. Sad state of affairs in Redlands.

JC/state school cost is much more affordable, it is hard for families to justify going to UR to play football. in 2000 the all in cost was 28k. That was affordable for families. 80k is not.

Watched the UR game Saturday night. At first glance the Bulldogs OL looked much better, averaged 4.4 a carry which isn't bad. I thought they averaged more just watching as George Fox was bad. QB play was very lacking, which is becoming the norm at UR. 50% completion is not a good stat, but when you are just throwing the ball downfield, it's gonna be low. Defense played superbly and were put in some bad situations. Was shocked that they didn't record a sack on the night.
With a bye week before Whitworth, hopefully they get the QB spot fixed. Chapman playing well against the #6 team in the country doesn't look to good for the rest of the SCIAC.

Thanks for that post. Interesting interview with the Whittier HC. Any football scrimmages for the SCIAC schools?

Part of the Athletic Strategic plan, when Maynard was at UR back in 2019, was to expand the locker room to accommodate a JV team. That way they could get 30-40 more boys a year. Since that fundraising campaign took a crap, it never came to fruition.

31 and Old Dog are correct. The Maynard situation is 30+ years of alumni who want nothing to do with the current state of UR. Maybe they should name the Field House after him or Maynard Field at Ted Runner stadium. I know I would open my check book for that. My gut is telling me Maynard wants nothing to do with Redlands.
Old Dog, I agree about the IE. Don't let those kids go to other places. The problem is UR has good looking facilities on the outside, but they locker room and team meeting facilities are probably last in the SCIAC. That's what kids want. Until those things are updated, or they get a coach like Maynard who can overcome those shortcomings, UR football is in a bad place.
Playoff games are a must. That is how you advertise. Have multiple CIF Football championship games at Ted Runner. Don't make the IE teams travel to OC and LA for those games. Simple things like that would go a long way.

Again, secondhand info. Heard she did not want the position. Financially she doesn't need it and she didn't want the headache.
