Part of the Athletic Strategic plan, when Maynard was at UR back in 2019, was to expand the locker room to accommodate a JV team. That way they could get 30-40 more boys a year. Since that fundraising campaign took a crap, it never came to fruition.

31 and Old Dog are correct. The Maynard situation is 30+ years of alumni who want nothing to do with the current state of UR. Maybe they should name the Field House after him or Maynard Field at Ted Runner stadium. I know I would open my check book for that. My gut is telling me Maynard wants nothing to do with Redlands.
Old Dog, I agree about the IE. Don't let those kids go to other places. The problem is UR has good looking facilities on the outside, but they locker room and team meeting facilities are probably last in the SCIAC. That's what kids want. Until those things are updated, or they get a coach like Maynard who can overcome those shortcomings, UR football is in a bad place.
Playoff games are a must. That is how you advertise. Have multiple CIF Football championship games at Ted Runner. Don't make the IE teams travel to OC and LA for those games. Simple things like that would go a long way.

Again, secondhand info. Heard she did not want the position. Financially she doesn't need it and she didn't want the headache.

It would have been great to hire an AD that has a track record of big fundraising. UR is in desperate need of some facility upgrades and it doesn't seem, I can't find anywhere, that she has ran some large capital campaigns. We all know UR, they took the easy hire. She was at Claremont, so our current administration knows her. They weren't going to bring in an agent of change that would disrupt the current system.
Pat, I have heard that the pool of candidates was not very strong at all. Board of Trustee members are dumbfounded as they thought they would be able to lure some of the bigger names in D3 college athletic administration to at least apply.

The only sports that have had any success lately are Men's and Women's Volleyball. The athletic department as a whole has been very bad. Maybe she knew she couldn't be successful there and wanted out.

There aren't a whole lot of D3 head jobs in So Cal. I would think the SCIAC schools would have assistants vying for the the Laverne job. Only way to be a head coach without moving from So Cal. Any word on the hire at LV?

Olddog, that's how a lot of alumni football players feel at UR. The campaign for athletics raised a lot of money, where did it go? There is no new football locker room or football offices, like they said would be built. They need football for male enrollment numbers, but they don't want any accountability when it comes to donations and money.
Hearing UR is in some trouble with their aging athletic facilities. Currier Gym is coming up on 100 years old and is showing its age badly, the field house has not had an overhaul 23 years, the football stadium is coming up on 60 years of use, the track is 20 years old. That's a lot of money UR does not have to build new or reinvigorate their facilities. High schools are outpacing UR facilities and that is not a good thing when looking to recruit. When I got to UR, the facilities were much better than any high school, not so much any more.

Whittier is getting serious with their Head Coach hire. Cory White from the FBS ranks. He coached and graduated from Whittier, 2004- 2007. It will be interesting to see what his hires look like.

UR is 81k all in to live on campus. RFB it used to be a great investment, now it's very lacking as the current and past administrations have made feelings of the students/employees more important than actual education. Chapman has surpassed UR in every aspect. The city of Redlands has changed for the worst over the past 30 years while the city of Orange is a great place to go to college.
Top D3 schools total cost:
North Central- 59k
MT Union- 49k
Mary Hardin Baylor- 48K
Linfield- 66K

Looked at tuition and room and board at UR. 81K all in. If a kid gets half in scholarships, they still have to pay 40K a year. How many families can afford that, let alone qualify for 40K a year in loans. Higher Ed finances are a disaster for middle class families. I can afford to pay that money to send my kids to UR, that price tag is not worth it. Linfield, St John's, the Texas powers, Mt Union, North Central are all about 2/3 to half that price. If Maynard was in charge, then it might be worth it.

The argument about not having an OC is irrelevant when it comes to his record as a head coach. Look how many Head Coaches in the NFL and College call their own offense and are very successful. It can be done and isn't happening at UR.

It is so interesting how coaches won't adapt. Maynard won with the Wing T, Power I, Air Raid and Spread Offense. Coaches need to coach to what they have.

He was at CP Pomona, maybe he got another job there. I would assume they pay more than D3.

Times are tough for D3 football teams on the West Coast. Lewis Clark in Oregon lost its head coach to a Head High School job in Arizona.
