Quote from: MCScots2013 on November 08, 2025, 02:26:05 PMThese Berry guys are almost unbearable to listen to. You'd think everyone on the roster craps gold the way they call the game. Centre and Trinity have much better guys in the box.

They also need to invest in a new microphone. Hurt my ears listening to it. Had to mute the game eventually. You can also hear all of the coaches in the box the whole time which ruins the broadcasting.

Quote from: tigerguy on October 19, 2025, 08:35:48 AMNCAA stats website only goes back to 2012, but it appears one of those games was 2023 against Southwestern when they put up 710 yards.

I would have expected that some of the prolific Tiger passing offenses of the late 90s/early 2000s would be up there statistically with these recent Urban-led teams, but it's probably an unfair comparison since games were played differently back then.

As great as Burton and Hampton were back then, with Trinity having close to a decade of All American Caliber QBs at the helm, don't forget they also had Damond Garza and Jeremy Boyce toting the rock out of the backfield. I believe Boyce still has the single game record for 300+ yards on the ground up on the Mountain. He was an AA RB as well.

What blows my mind about this young Trinity team is that the next man up never skips a beat, whether it be a QB, RB, WR, the OL gets the job done... Would have liked to have seen a better showing vs Berry, but Berry is very seasoned this year. The future is promising with this level of output. Crazier thing is the starters are being shuffled out after halftime and the younger guys are pouring on the yardage. Their two highest output games this season they didn't start early and still put 60 points on the board thanks to all three phases exploding in the second half.

Go Tigers!

Quote from: MCScots2013 on October 12, 2025, 04:38:46 PMI'm no Berry apologist, but they also took Carnegie Mellon to the wire in Pittsburgh without their senior multi year starting QB and that same CMU team almost upset Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Berry didn't look that great that game. Neither did CMU. CMU had a big box on defense. Berry never really made plays too, and it was a tight game. CMU blew the Hopkins game this week. What would have happened if they hung on? Where would voters put Berry?

Trinity is loaded with underclassmen all over the field in each of the three phases. I think they got rattled first half on stalled drives, and just didn't adjust against Berry... But to be dropped out of the top 25 shows some bias on voters. 240+ teams and I doubt half of them watch as many games as some of us do. Cant look at the box scores. You need to turn on the film. Why didn't Hopkins fall from #3????

I still think Trinity and UMHB would be two teams that no one would want to face in the first round of playoffs. Prime example and evidence was last years playoffs when UMHB showed anything can happen.

However, currently Trinity is still top 20 in the country on NPI, and that's all that matters. UMHB doesn't have a lot of options on dropping games to help NPI due to double headers and OOC non D3 teams.

Still halfway through the season but the SAA has a good chance of getting three teams in the playoffs if the top 3 all finish out well depending on how the head to head games play out. Also the WIAC is beating up on each other and shuffling rankings, but NPI is what gets team into playoffs, not Top 25 votes.

Lot of ball left to play. CMU needs to win their conference.

Welp D3 voters dumped both UMHB and Trinity from the Top 25 rankings today.

Quote from: Ralph Turner on October 02, 2025, 10:04:16 PMWeek #4

1) TUTX 30 points  (1,1,1,2,5)
2) HSU  27 points  (2,2,3,3,3)
3) H-SC  23 points  (1,2,2,4,x)
4T) UMHB 17 points (1,3,4,6,7)
4T) Berry 17 points (4,4,4,5,6)
6) RMC    11 points  (3,5,7,7,7)
7) Maryville  10 points (5,5,6,6,x)

RV Centre  2  (6,x,x,x,x)
RV Bridgewater 1 (7,x,x,x,x)

Just my opinion, but I think that Bornpowerindex still has too much built in data to keep the indices of 2025 teams from bursting from past performances. Also, I believe that UMHB is getting much support from its non-D3 opponents, Hampden-Sydney is still carrying the burden of the previous season(s). Bornpowerindex is my 5th ballot. Any takers?

I had the same teams in a similar order. Would be awesome to get a few more R3 voters on board to see their input on placement...Should be a fun conference schedule for all the leagues in R3. I've really enjoyed seeing the Region as a whole have a lot of teams on the national stage being recognized with D3 votes!

Quote from: y_jack_lok on September 20, 2025, 10:16:10 PMIn the first week of ODAC play:

H-SC 42 - Shenandoah 7
Gallaudet 39 - Averett 30
RMC 27 - Bridgewater 3
W&L 35  - Guilford 7

The H-SC win has to be the most impressive. The Tigers must be the real deal.

RMC looked better in its win than in the first two games. The aforementioned changes certainly helped. Passing game also seemed a little different. A freshman RB (#32 Tristan Overbay) looked good in his first action of the season-- five carries for 33 yards.

I'm starting to come around, and I sure hope you're right, but the last few years have left me reluctant to jump on the bandwagon too soon. W&L have been a real problem for the Tigers recently; if we get by them I just might have to.

They opened my eyes and I've been beating the drum that they should garner votes! OOC resume is strong. Then to thump a familiar conference opponent should have their fan base very optimistic this year. Good luck!

Quote from: tigerguy on September 22, 2025, 08:53:24 AMI hope our guys in the trenches are getting enough reps to prepare them stamina-wise for a full 4 quarters of play. I am all for getting the backups important reps, but Urban has been pulling starters fairly early in the last two games. I haven't gone back to drill down on whether it is across the board, or whether the early pulls are just QB and RBs.

Not advocating for running up the score or creating greater opportunities for injury - but we will have games this year where the starters need to play all four quarters. Close games can be won with better late-game stamina, particularly on the line.

In the PLU game, coach left starters in the game through most of the third quarter. He pulled nearly the entire    starting lineup at halftime in the game against Belhaven. It seems he recognizes the need to ensure his players are conditioned. They have a bye this coming weekend.

It's important to get reps. However, if a player is not in shape after three games in, plus a couple controlled scrimmages, at 20~years old... they will Never be in game-shape! As young as they are I'd rather have as many guys get reps to see what they are capable of in case called upon. Trinity has always had a next man up approach. You can't have confidence in players when they're only getting back up reps in the closing minutes of the 4th. It's a long season. May not have crazy stats pumping up the numbers, but Trinity hasn't ever really been about that. Very team oriented. I like seeing a lot of unfamiliar faces play....And they best way to make a run at  it is to ensure the guys in the trenches are healthy prior to conference play.  ;)

Quote from: awadelewis on September 10, 2025, 06:42:29 PMCentre and Depauw had some pretty chippy games back when Depauw was in our league.   UPS at Southwestern is interesting just because it's not often we see one of the Pacific Northwest schools playing one of our league's teams.   I don't think Milsaps will have much trouble with Centenary but don't know enough about Austin this year to know how they'll do against Rhodes.  But my allegiances require me to say "Go <whomever is playing The School by the Zoo>" :)

So you're going for whoever Trinity plays each week!??

Trinity's Tyler Huettel took the AFCA's 1st Team All American Kicker award!

Berry's Brandon Cade was 2nd Team RB and Tony Garcia was 2nd Team OL

Region 3 had a good amount of players receive honors

Congrats CRU! Beat the Cowboys again! If not for the bye week last week, that's 3 first round exits in 3 years for HSU  ;)

Welp, guess we're cheering for Centre, UMHB, and Maryville this weekend.  ::)
Also keeping eyes on TLU. Hope the team that showed up the first 59.5 min vs Southwestern missed the bus.

Was cool to see when Kyle King, KJ Miller, Brandon Jordan, Aphonso
Thomas transferred. The process worked well for them and UMHB. I mean basically the entire Offense was transfers, but they transferred within the ASC, or down a level...or two. Anyways, They stuck together, developed, Won a Natty. Pretty sure they all got some looks after college too.

I'm not knocking the ETBU kids for trying to test the portal, but they had some early success this year. If they stuck it out maybe they could built on that over next year or two and been really electric.

Best way to make it to a higher level is game film. If you're good enough they will find you. The more quality reps you can show on tape, the higher chance you have to get a look from the next level. Next level as in being post college.

All this NIL and musical chairs of transfers is getting ridiculous. Used to, a transfer would have to sit out a year and lose a season of eligibility unless they transfered down. At some point the "student" in student athlete needs to mean something to the coaching staff and admissions departments.

I'm not arguing against the transfer process, you shouldn't be married to a school if it's not a good fit, especially when paying out of your pocket (D3), but the odds of playing meaningful snaps when transferring up doesn't happen much; At least from the standpoint of getting familiar with a system that works for a player to showcase their talents for more than a season.

If a school doesn't have your major, I can see transferring after taking some entry level courses, when finding a passion for a future career. I just don't get the switching schools every year... It's not the NBA. If you want to walk on at a D1 and run out the tunnel, cool. Most guys would rather play with their best friends for 4 years and make memories while actually getting to play and travel.

On the flip side, I also don't get the lure of bringing in a bunch of transfers either. A couple here and there I understand. I'd just be shy about going to the portal every year over developing recruits. Less time and less chemistry. Also, what keeps them there and not transferring a second or third time? How do they gain confidence and growth in a system?

Anyways, that's a lot of production lost from this season of play for ETBU. I Didn't know if they were leaving from having a little conference success or changes in the program.

Why are so many  guys leaving?

You kick it. When you have an All American kicker, take it to overtime. It's college overtime not NFL. Trinity made a FG prior to that long CRU game winning drive.

As we've seen already...You never know when a defense comes up with a pick, then take a mid range FG for the win.
