Seems a little harsh given Albion's schedule.  But, the trend has been way down since year 2 after "Ashabi" left for Northwood.

....who by the way is 4-0 and just knocked off D2 #9 Findlay as they attempt to qualify for the D2 tournament for a 2nd year in a row.

Yeah it's definitely unusual to see a guy get let go so quickly in a division 3 setting. Especially with the family ties, and him being an Albion HOF guy.

But the trend after year 2 was not good. And you wonder if the combined score against Hope of 125-0 in the last 2 years was maybe the nail in the coffin, in my 26 years of following the miaa that's never been Albion football. Also recall seeing they had single digit seniors this year, so it's possible recruiting/retention was a factor too.

Coach Beurer had things in a really good spot before his departure (and is showing he can carry that with him!) and that carried over for a bit, but that wasn't gonna last forever and it started to show.

Best of luck to Coach Wasil who I played against, and coached against as well. He's a long time program guy so hopefully he can right the ship.

I can't imagine it helps having a startup program in your conference as a comparison point and getting blown out at home in that program's second year of competition.

Quote from: calvin_grad on November 02, 2025, 03:45:13 PMI don't know anything about D3 football, but with Calvin's 50-20 win over Olivet yesterday, they have guaranteed themselves a winning season in just their second year of football.  This seems like a pretty big accomplishment.
When Calvin announced the beginning of football at the school, I asked a knowledgeable person at Calvin how long it would take for one of its teams to have a winning record in a season. "Five years" was the answer I got. Both Trent Figg and the Calvin community should be delighted to see this prediction was far too pessimistic.
Most Calvin folks I know agreed Calvin would have a winning record in the first few seasons. The MIAA is seems weak.

Its currently sitting at like the 8th strongest conference I think based on the most recent update. Long way from where it used to be, when it was much more poorly thought of.

If you look just at W/L for the league in non-con (not including playoffs) you might think this is a down year.  Since Calvin joined in FB it looks like this:

2026 14-10
2025 17-7
2024 18-6

The opponents (aka SOS) for the league as a whole is much better this year, hence the better rating (Massey currently has the MIAA as the 7th best conference)
