Considering the level of competition, anything less than what we saw from Whitewater yesterday would've been cause for concern... They did exactly what most expected them to do against an inferior opponent.

I agree UWW ultimately won by a margin they likely should have. I'm just not sure at all about the offense. It's totally possible the game plan was limited and designed to focus on running the ball. The score was 24-7 at half and one of the TD's was a kick return.
8-11 combined passing for UWW.
51 rushes, 21 of which were from the UWW QB's.
Based on these numbers I have no idea what the UWW offense will be or look like.
We will see.

I know this is way to early to start thinking about this. LaCrosse has only 9 games on its schedule and one is against a D2 school. Oshkosh is playing a D2 school and Whitewater is playing a NAIA school. Does this help or hurt when deciding Pool C bids?

Agreed. We don't know all our offense will be and neither do the teams we are going to play. Don't expect to learn much next week either. We've got La Crosse for our first conference game. Let's just say they won't know what to expect. Caden is very aware of what he puts on film. One thing we can be confident of is that if a team can't slow down our running game, they are going to get a big dose of it.

In the NPI system, you want to get as many wins as possible because you get to drop the worst wins, the wins against teams whose numbers hurt you. So there's a benefit to being 9-1 vs. D-III instead of 7-1 or 8-1. That gives you more wins to drop, as it were.

If the big picture plan truly is to keep the passing game off film to limit UWL's preparation- my hats off to the staff for such advance planning.
Of course you weigh that approach to losing the opportunity to get valuable practice and experience for the new QB's and receivers.
21 rushes from the QB position will force UWL to game plan it, but it's also taking many valuable plays away from the running backs and passing game to get better.

100% agree with this as well. My uneducated guess is that we will see a more balance approach to game two. The other thing that took away from opportunities in the passing game was the score and those long touchdown runs. I do think we are putting a premium on physicality on both sides of the ball this year and if a team can't stop the run, we are going to keep pounding it. But I agree that to win the big games, we need balance to be a truly dangerous offense. Again, uneducated guess, I think we are going to lean on the run and dominating on defense while the young offense rounds into form. The standard is high but I think the game plan is to set the offense up for success by giving them time to grow.

Love that we had 0 turnovers. I honestly can't remember the last time we lost a game without any turnovers.

This is a terrific interview with Quinn Meinerz. Seems like the ultimate team player.

Not surprised to see Klinkner pop up above Lucero on the two deep this week. Seemed like the offense ran more smoothly through him, and even in the limited opportunities, the passing game was more efficient with him.

If a sophomore steps up and takes the reigns for UWW, they might finally have a chance to have a QB grow through a few years as a starter.

Great point. I'd love to see that happen.

Speaking of Lucero, in the 2 deep he's listed as a freshman, but on the UWW website roster he's a junior. Considering he transferred in from GVS, I assume he's a Jr?

Aiden is a junior.

WARHAWKS win easily over NAIA Saint Xavier 37-0.  Xavier's defense played to stop the run and had some success holding the WARHAWKS to 110 yards rushing on 39 attempts (10:QB). Klinkner had a solid day going 20/24, 243 yds, 3 tds and completing passes to 10 different receivers. This was a good day in his development. He completed passes on and off platform, under duress and  spread the ball around.

Falcons run 92 plays, Coe 70 something in 59-47 win over a good Coe team. Kaleb Blaha rushed for 234 yds, passed for 335 and had a hand in 7 td's. Was WIAC player of the week last week. Will not repeat even though he played better today.

'95 Blugold

Blugolds go on the road to Ohio and defeat Kenyon College 35-6. I know the first two have been against "lesser competition", but Blugolds are 2-0 for the first time since 2021. Should have a good chance to be 3-0 going into WIAC play as we have Martin Luther up next.

We'll see what happens once WIAC season starts, but if Ayden Helder stays healthy it looks like we may finally have a decent QB at the helm running the offense for the next few years.

Quote from: cubs on September 06, 2025, 07:24:06 PMWIAC opens play with a perfect 7-0 weekend, with La Crosse being lone team not to play. UWO with the most impressive win going out to Oregon and beating preseason #16 Linfield 31-14. Platteville also knocked off a preseason Top 25 team as they went on the road and destroyed #22 Aurora, 41-0.
WIAC follows up perfect Week #1 with a 6-2 record in Week #2, as UWO and Stout lost to a pair of Top 10 teams, North Central and Wartburg respectively.

UWO blocked a punt and the offense took over at the one yard line. They took a 7-0 lead shortly after that but it was ALL Nortb Central after that. Stout held Wartburg to 16 points but were unable to score at all in a 16-0 defeat.
