Quote from: emma17 on Today at 10:47:12 AMBleed- your point about the backup RB is right on. I'm not saying every QB run should have been a play for Tommy. UWW absolutely needs to be protective of the kid- and that's where the next RB in line should get the carries.

Klinkner has had some good passing games so I believe he has the ability. In the losses to UWRF and UWL last year, and last week's game vs. UWRF, it seems the OC gets highly conservative and calls the safest of plays, including a lot of swing pass/wide receiver screens that don't move the ball forward.

In general I'm not a fan of pass plays thrown at or behind the line of scrimmage especially if you have a running game getting positive yards. The beloved Bears had a series last week where they were pounding the run down the field and they get into or close to the red zone with a first and ten. They throw a wide receiver screen that gets blown up at the line and now face second and 10. I get the idea of making the D line run to tire them out, but at the same time it didn't look like the D had any chance of stopping three running plays in a row. Now, if they can run an effective slant route, that's a different story. :).

I didn't see the game but saw some highlights on a podcast. Outside of the freshman's TD's the only pass play shown was the pick 6 when UWRF defender came in untouched and hit the UWW QB as he was throwing. I don't know overall how UWW OL handled the UWRF pass rush but sometimes the way to attack an aggressive D is those short passes or runs.

Kyle Hass was worse.  Zero touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  The only offensive touchdown they scored was with the backup quarterback.

Even more reason to wonder what's going on w the UWW offense.
Klinkner had 17 carries for 34 yards. Imagine that. 2 yards a carry and you keep calling his number.

It's 14 carries for 40 yards once you eliminate the sacks, which are deducted from rushing offense in college football. Not a tremendous difference but more accurate.

Right- thank you. I was going to mention sack yardage/or busted pass plays that become a short run, but the gist remains the same.
There is an opportunity cost the offense is losing out on. A truly simple question the OC should ask himself- do we put more pressure on the D handing the ball to a running back 14 more times- or having our QB run it 14 times.

Quote from: Mitch Hall on October 06, 2026, 05:29:15 PMEagles' defense must improve if they are to beat WW.

They should be fine.  Just like last year they probably give up between 17-21 points in this game.
They gave up 24 @ St John's
They gave up 28 at home vs Hardin Simmons
They gave up 31 @ Oshkosh against who I believe is the best quarterback in D3.  There's a reason he was recruited by GVS.
Windy conditions and the first road test of the year for Whitewater.
Low scoring very close game.

Oh come on now. You think Oshkosh's QB is the best QB in D3?

And he committed to Ferris State before transferring to NCC and now has landed in Oshkosh.

I should have know that he went to Ferris State.  I was just Lazy.

And Yes
Demir Ashiru IS the most dangerous and most talented quarterback in D3.  If you run for over 200 yards and pass for over 200 yards.  You are an ELITE TALENT.

One interesting note about Demir is that he could be the oldest QB in all of college football if he plays two more seasons after this (I see UWO has him listed as a sophomore). With 5-for-5 being implemented at the D1 and D2 levels, he would be six years removed from high school if he plays another two seasons. He was a senior in high school in the fall of 2022, as I lived down the street from Plainfield North at the time and watched all of his home games. He must have "gray-shirted" at Ferris State in the fall of 2023 before redshirting there in 2024 and then backing up Garret Wilson at NCC in 2025. Rooting for him to do well, he is very talented, and his younger brother is going to Western Michigan next year on scholarship as a WR.

WIAC WEEK 2 PREDICTIONS -
THE WEEK OF SYMMETRY.
All 1-0 teams face off against 1-0 teams.

UW Eau Claire at UW Platteville

Both teams enter play undefeated for the season.  Paxton Rothmeier leads the rushing attack for UWEC.  While quarterback Nathan Uselding leads the UW-PLATTEVILLE offense.  Look for Uselding to continue his 75% completion percentage during the game.  Last year Uselding had over 300 yards passing on 77% passing.   Look for that to continue at home.  Platteville's strength is it's rush defense giving up 2.2 yards per rush.  Look for a high scoring game with Platteville in charge all of the game.

Platteville 48   Eau Claire 24

UW Whitewater at UW La Crosse
First time for both teams, they face a starting quarterback from last year.  La Crosse knows Klinkner, while Whitewater knows Haas.  Over the last 2 years, Whitewater is 3-4 on the road in the WIAC.  With the only road wins to Eau Claire, Point and Oshkosh.  In the last 3 games the winning margin has been: 3 points, 3 points and 3 points.  Also, the last time these 2 teams played in La Crosse, the attendance on a sunny 55 degree day was 3,037 fans.  SAD!

UW LA CROSSE 20   UW WHITEWATER 17

UW Stout Poly at UW Stevens Point.

Or UW-SP vs UW-SP.  Stout needs a get right game.  No better team for them to visit then Point.  One week after giving up close to 400 to Eau Claire, look for Stout to go over that number.  This game could get ugly quickly.

UW Stout Poly 45.  UW Stevens Point 10

UW Oshkosh at UW River Falls

It's funny when you compare this game to last years game.  River Falls had 1 blemish, the Oshkosh loss.  They want revenge.  The loser of the game won't win the conference title either.  Speed beat the River Falls defense last week.  The question then is, does Oshkosh have enough speed to stress the defense.  I don't think so.  River Falls might have a backup QB and RB starting.  I think it will be enough.

UW River Falls 27  UW Oshkosh 20
