The 6-team SCAC and the 6-team ASC contract to play 3 interconference games.
That leaves 2 more games to fill in the season.

If I were a conference office, I wouldn't want to make any big plans based on AQ6 remaining in place long for football. If the SCAC makes an AQ push and we get to 29 AQs, I think people act fast to re-evaluate AQ6 for football.

I understand the various reasons why certain schools don't want to be with others, but it would be laughable for their to be 2 6-football team conferences in Texas especially if the reason is to make the playoffs, when we know who we would be playing in the first round EVERY single year.

Winning your conference and making the playoffs is a recruiting tool. Yes, limited options for first round opponents, but that doesn't mean there isn't some value to the idea given the low 6 team barrier.

Would this even qualify as limited options, best I can tell the only non 600 mile trip would be if Sul Ross plays the currently unaffiliated Centenary. By there own rules the Texas Sub Bracket wouldn't be joke anymore it would be a foregone conclusion.

Yes, the AQ6 was the bait. Pat has a good point. (Is the AQ6 dead in the water?)

If I am a school starting D# football in Texas, I have a much better chance building a competitive program in a conference that only has to contend with Trinity, instead of UMHB and the HSU and right behind them, ETBU.

ksclegal

Ralph,
What's your take on the UMHB schedule?

Pat Coleman

I don't think it's dead in the water or anything but I don't think it'll last for football.

Birmingham Southern disagrees with this statement.

Thanks for the comment BSCPanthers.

Let me clarify the comment.

My assumption was Trinity leaving the SAA to compete in the SCAC with TU, TLU, Southwestern, Centenary, Austin College and a proposed 6th football member in St Thomas.

BSCpanthers

Is that going to happen?  I figured it would but haven't heard an official announcement.

Pat Coleman

I wouldn't be surprised if people are working on this but no, nothing even close to an announcement. The SCAC is only at five teams in 2024 and would need to attract a sixth or find a school already in the conference willing to add the sport.

Plus Austin has a commitment to the ASC that will be active in 2024.

And hopefully by then there is some resolution to the AQ situation for football

Interesting location for this game, knew it would be neutral site, but didn't expect War Memorial.

Little Rock is closer to B'ham.
Shreveport is closer to Abilene.

B-SC won the coin toss.

Or, how much was venue rental?

Glancing at the roster, this has to be one of the first times a game will be played in a state where no players will be playing in their home state haha
